(A review for Pawel Trocha, employee of Misrahi as of 2/2/15) I'm not a fan of the concept of broker's fees in NYC. I think it should be regulated and policed, if not made illegal in some fashion for a myriad of reasons. That said, in the chaos of NYC apartment hunting, Pawel Trocha of Misrahi Realty Co was awesome and would have merited any fee. He worked with me to find what I was looking for and even found me numerous apartments where the fee was paid by the property owner (as it should be, in my opinion) and not me. Please stay as far away from this management company as possible! Was told in order to secure an apartment I had to give a 1 month deposit (prior to even signing a lease). After finding out that this is absolutely not legal, I tried to retrieve these funds and was told it was not refundable. My bank was unable to refund since it was sent via transfer. I can understand some degree of was my own ignorance and I should have not trusted them, however I was totally taken advantage of and scammed. Truly unprofessional and cruel. read more

Worst building I've ever lived in and worst management company I've ever dealt with. Heat went off completely three times this past winter, during a weekend so it wasn't fixed for over 24 hours each time. Issues with pipes, appliances, hot water, cockroaches. They leave the trash open in the lobby. They actually lied to me during my move-out princess, and then gave me attitude when I caught them in a lie. While they thought I was on vacation, an agent tried to show my apartment without telling me ahead of time. Just look at how dismissive they are about other reviews. It doesn't matter that they are a brokerage, they represent the landlord and are largely unprofessional even in their direct business practices. read more

Ughhhh. These guys are a great example of the monsters that run most real estate in New York. Their apartments are cruddy, overpriced, and have a lot of problems. The apartments we were shown were tiny studios the size of a suburban kitchen, in horrible condition, in sketchy buildings that stank of mold, with lots of weird exposed pipes and water heaters. One even had a toilet in the "bedroom" and the shower in the kitchen. One of the apartments had no fridge, and we were told we'd have to buy our own. Several of the apartments had broken fans, sinks, etc and we were told we'd have to fix them ourselves. Meanwhile, the realtor was telling us that these apartments were some of the best he'd ever seen, in all his years as a realtor. And our price range was not that low! Misrahi is a really miserable company. If you're looking with big realty corps, I'd suggest sticking with Ardor or looking for by-owner rentals in the LES. read more

I've lived in a property managed by Brownstone (which is a subsidiary of Misrahi) for a year and a half. In that time, I have not seen any tenants stay for the second year lease. I only stayed because it was a hectic time in my life and I did not have time to find another place. I regret this decision. While Brownstone is better at addressing concerns than others - they do cut rate work, hiring contractors who neither understand you and who fail to clean up after themselves. The maintenance is subpar - and the building is only fixed when emergencies occur. For instance, we had leaking pipes that were not fixed until there was a waterfall in the hallway. Plus, we have a huge cockroach issue. I never leave dishes in the sink or food out period. We found about 20 cockroaches in our trashcan last night. Brownstone offers a once-a-month exterminating service, but you have to sign up using a phantom sign-up sheet and must take a day off in order to be present when the exterminator comes to the building. In other words, they don't make it very convenient for you or your neighbors to maintain a cleanly place to live. The building is only cleaned when perspective clients come to see the place. Otherwise, expect dead roach carcasses and fetid smells while walking to your apartment. read more

Amalia just showed me a no fee apartment--she was timely and pleasant. Tomorrow I give them $60 for a credit check (a bit excessive) and a rent check they swear they won't cash untill I sign the lease. I don't trust brokers as far as I can throw em. Stay tuned to see if they try and dick me over. Update: I changed my mind and didn't take the apartment. My dealings with this company were acceptable, but I still don't trust brokers. If you need an apartment camp out on the 'apartments by owner" section of craigslist. Be patient and have your docs ready and you will find something without interacting with brokers. read more

I only give them such a good review only on the behalf of Bill. I have lived in my apartment for 3 years, and have completely HATED these people. They have been rude since i wrote my first (healthy) rent and broker's fee checks. I was sold a dream, only to find that my apartment had soooooo many problems, with little help. The worst has been moving out, and the JERK people that call you during the day and expect you to take time off work so that they can show your apartment to more poor souls that should never move there anyway. The ONLY saving grace for this place has been their realtor Bill. He was flexible from the beginning, and has kept in constant contact, respecting my privacy and space. He was never unkind and always understanding of my situation and work schedule. I've dealt with many real estate brokers in the past, working with Raymond Gani was my best experience by far. While many brokers put pressure to get me to settle for less than what I was looking for, Raymond went out of his way to find me a place that made me happy. I wanted to be in downtown Manhattan and i wasn't sure at first which neighborhood i wanted to live in. Raymond has extensive knowledge of downtown Manhattan and really helped me break down each area . We ended up going with the LES ( which is amazing!! ). Misrahi Realty has multiple buildings in the area and It was very convenient that they are close by to each other. Raymond showed me apartments in all price ranges within my budget. He explained to me all the pros and cons of each listing and was a HUGE help in making my decision.  Once i decided on an apartment, Raymond helped me gather all my paperwork. Approval was same day, which is great since you aren't biting your nails waiting for an answer. We did the Lease signing a couple of days later and now i have moved in to my brand new apartment. I highly recommend anyone looking for an apartment to go with Raymond Gani. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This realty company completely screwed me over in every way possible and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They showed me a nice apartment in LES, which was a bit pricey for a 6 floor walkup and a 3rd lofted bedroom that was made for a midget. My roommates and I decided to take the apartment because every other craigslist apartment we saw was worse than this one and we're all from out of town and had to find a place quick. They told us it was a September 1st move-in, and after we gave them money for credit checks and a $2000 holding fee they approved us. We had to pay first month, security, and broker fee (each a month's rent=$3350 per person) then they tell us that it's actually an October 1st move in but they'll let us move in early on Sept 15th when the previous tenants move out. We didn't have much of a choice but to agree. When I went in to sign my lease today, I had questions about the lease and also the "broker fee" at which point the owner of the realty company overheard me and decided to NOT rent me the apartment because I was "starting trouble". Since when is asking questions and invoking my rights to information about the place i'm about to live in considered starting trouble??!! this is AFTER they already took our money and approved us and drew up a lease to sign. According to NYC law, a managing agent cannot charge a broker fee for a property they are leasing. THIS IS ILLEGAL! Misrahi manages all the properties they show and they charged us a broker fee. So, when I started asking questions about that, they kicked me off the lease. In my opinion , if they weren't doing anything shady they would've just answered my questions honestly. DO NOT USE MISRAHI. THEY ARE THE MOST AWFUL PEOPLE WHO ONLY WANT AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY CAN SQUEEZE OUT OF YOU. read more

As someone else said, they have a lock on Lower East Side apartments. I lived in a building managed by them (which is called Brownstone Management) and their response to maintenance issues was waaaay less than desirable. The halls and staircases in our apartment building were super, super, super nasty, and for the first six months the building reeked of trash at least one day a week because the guys wouldn't come to put it out on the street. My money / lease dealings with them have been all right, but I can just say I moved out of the LES in part because my experience in this building was so poor. Go to Brooklyn! read more

I couldnt believe how stressful this experience was. First of all, they listed our apartment at $3,900 and then after we had already committed and paid them a security deposit- they tell us that the landlord actually wants $4,000 for it. We were able to meet halfway just because we didnt want to lose all of the money we already invested. When my first roommate moved in the entire apartment smelled of cigarette smoke and there were ashes and butts on the floor left by misrahi brokers who (after we already signed for the apartment) went there to do god knows what. We signed for the apartment and I'm thankful for that but I don't think I would use them again. read more

Our agent was David Moye, who worked with us patiently while we went back and forth on what we wanted to do and even negotiated a decrease in the asking rent with the landlord. David was very personable, laid-back and caring throughout the process. Shady does not even begin to describe the business practices of Misrahi realty. NY law any building with more than 6 apt has to put your money in a NY bank and pay interest on your deposit. Misrahi did not. Besides the interest, they took money from me for items that were not in the apt when I moved in and a closet door that was not broken beyond normal wear and tear. (also a NY law saying they cant take money for repairs) When I called about it and asked why I did not get my interest, and for receipts for the upgrades they made I received no answer and now they will not return my phone calls. I did not have very many issues while renting with them, however I am not a complainer (although I should have complained more) When my bathroom was missing its towel rode, I thought, I'll just hang my towel on my door no big deal. After I moved out, they charged me for the towel rode, the chain on my door, and an apparently missing carbon monoxide detector. None of which was in the apt when I moved in. They also charged me for the closet door because it came of the hinges (which was a piece of crap in the first place) Before I moved out I specially said if there is anything wrong I want a walk through to discuss the issues. When I called to complain, I was told they dont offer walk throughs for the specific purpose of not giving me a chance to dispute the claims. IF anything is wrong with your apt CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY they will take it out of your deposit if you move. read more

after a few years commuting from bk, I went on Craigslist and Streeteasy and started looking in manhattan to be closer to work. I called one of their agents from an ad I saw for a decent place. He was polite and no pressure type compared to what i had gotten on some calls to other brokers who I had still went to see a few places with. He also happily picked up his cell at 10pm and took the time to really figure out what I needed. He had 3-4 apts lined up to show me the next day and met me at the first place with keys to a few other options. He was very non sales like and was honest about the apts we saw, pointing out pros and cons etc. the next day, i looked at one more place that he had to wait on access for from the tenants, but i ended up taking one of the first places he had shown me. he helped me get my application together that afternoon and the manager had it approved before 6, got my lease and keys next day. read more

I signed my lease with Joe Safdie from Misrahi Realty Corporation two weeks ago, and I just moved in yesterday. So this review is more about my leasing experience with Joe. My experience house hunting with Joe is by far the best. I've lived in Manhattan for 5 years, and have house hunted 4 times. Joe is honest, straightforward, and never rushes you, even though this is probably the busiest time of the year for a broker. He gives you both the good and the bad and really tries to understand your needs so that he can find the best suited apartment for you. The day that I signed the lease, he stayed very late just to make sure that all the paperwork is sorted. He also helped facilitate my coordination with the previous tenant because the previous tenant had furniture he wanted to sell to me, and I was hoping to move in a few days earlier than the official lease start date. I would enthusiastically recommend working with Joe Safdie if you are looking for an apartment in the LES. I can only fairly write this review based on my experience with my broker, Lorence. This is my first apartment in NYC and my 2 roommates and I found Lorence's listing for 94 Rivington on StreetEasy. The building is wonderful, the price is good for the LES, and we were able to negotiate the broker's fee (something we were not planning on paying, but this place was worth it). Although I have nothing to compare it to, I think Lorence is a quality broker. The same day the listing went up there were quite a few people contacting Lorence to show them the apartment, including us. We were all pretty much apartment hunting newbies, and he happily answered all of our (many) questions - even though he was likely being pressured by his other appointments - and gave us advice on how to get all of our paperwork in quickly so we could secure the apartment. After we turned in our applications and paperwork, Lorence explained step-by-step everything that would happen. He gave us worst-case scenarios as well as what we were most likely to expect. We signed our lease yesterday (which he took us through thoroughly) and we're very happy with our decision! We love Lorence - he has been extremely accessible throughout this whole process and answered random questions about money, room size, the building in general, the area, etc. Will definitely be getting a drink with him once we are settled in! read more

I have used Misrahi Realty twice now and on both occasions I worked exclusively with Yesim Ak. My experience with Yesim was stellar. She is professional but also very comforting to be around. She never pressured me into a particular apartmetnt and always seemed to bring me to apartments I was interested in sooner rather than later. Yesim was consistently on time.
