Geneva is great because it has such an assortment of ethnicities and cultures, a characteristic, of course, that does not exclude itself from its food scene. On our first night in Geneva, my bf & I decided to dip our toes (I mean taste buds) into this diversity. We forewent the obvious French, Swiss/German, and Italian options, and decided on Peruvian cuisine, which lucky for us, there was such an option near our hotel.
Miski is small, rustic yet ornate, comfortable, casual, welcoming. If you've been to Central or South America and have dined at one of it's city's eateries, you'll essentially get some sense of familiarity once you enter this restaurant. The music is upbeat Latin, local (Peruvian) beer is served, it's ran by a family (of Peruvians), who will gladly speak to you in their native language if you'd prefer that tongue (to French).
So ambiance aside, how was the food? Well, we started our meal with the mother of all Peruvian dishes (er, outside of potatoes) and had the mixed ceviche. It featured several types of fish, including shrimp and whitefish, as well as thin-sliced onions, chunks of sweet potato, fried and fresh hominy. Wow, what flavor! The acid was just right. The corn and sweet potato balanced the lime and onion, creating a layered bite that was worth repeats.
Our entree - which we shared - was the creamy chicken & rice with potatoes. The sauce that enveloped the chicken and potatoes was mild and buttery, with hints of coriander. The heaping of rice in middle of this dish made the curry-like sauce into a sort-of moat, ready to be be soaked up by its soft white grains. There wasn't a bite to be had once we were ready for the check...I mean our plate was short of being licked clean!
In short: great little Peruvian spot to drop into while in Geneva! read more
