This is a brilliant pub with a brilliant name. It has a really intricate interior with quite a few nice tables in the main area, but the best bit is the private rooms that were strangely empty on our visit, despite there being no tables free in the main pub. They have a small games room with a big chest of games and a tv which you can watch whatever you like on, and a larger room with about 3 or 4 tables in it. They also have a darts corridor where people can play darts without getting in anyone else's way.
I can't comment on the beer as I was on Scotch, which they have a very wide range of as you'd expect in these parts, but they seemed to have a decent range of real ale as well. The atmosphere was lively and staff were friendly, although somehow they've managed to get themselves two Chinese barmaids (not sure how on Earth they've ended up on the Isle of Mull), one of whom clearly hadn't been trained too well. She didn't know how to pour a pint of Guinness (my dad wasn't too impressed with his half-black half-white concoction), and she put ice in our whiskies without asking (sacrilegious to the Scots!). Still, I'm sure a few more months in Scotland will iron out these flaws, and the rest of the pub is good enough to make up for it. We left at gone 12:30 and there was no sign of them kicking anyone out either, which made a refreshing change from London.
So, next time you find yourself thirsty on Mull you know where to go.
Oh, I see Qype has this down as a hotel (which it is)... but I can't comment on the hotel part of the operation. I'd imagine it's good though. read more
