This big family-run hotel is situated in upper Tobermory, and is perhaps better known to children…read moreas 'Josie Jump's House' from 'Balamory'. It was formerly known as the Harbour Heights hotel It was originally built in the 1930s by the Admiralty as accommodation for their naval training base here, but there are few signs of that heritage remaining other than a few nautical decorations in the bar and breakfast areas. It's been completely renovated in recent times and everything is clean and in good order. It's run by locals who go a long way to make you feel welcomed, and is set back from the bustle of the town so a peaceful night's sleep is practically guaranteed. There is a small bar and restaurant serving locally sourced food - it's fairly standard pub-style food and is perfectly fine but nothing to write home about. I did however like the option of a breakfast muffin with scrambled egg and smoked salmon - not your usual hotel breakfast menu item, and very tasty to boot. The hand pumps in the bar were off when I visited so the choice of beer was pretty narrow. They did have a reasonable selection of spirits and whisky though. All the rooms are en-suite. I had a twin to myself that wasn't huge, but the bathroom was a good size, the room was clean and tidy and everything worked. They also have free wi-fi throughout (yay!), which worked although the signal strength wasn't brilliant, making internitting a rather tedious affair at best. I originally gave it 3 stars but have upped it to 4 because of the friendly and helpful staff, who really made a difference to my stay by producing a phone charger for me when I discovered that I'd left mine at home. Excellent service!

Only a 5-minute walk from where we were staying, the yellow outside marks the unmissable location for Josie Jumps house and we also heard they did decent food too. So after taking far too many photos of the outside (the locals started staring), we headed inside and to the lovely little restaurant area. We were greeted and shown to our table, we were a little on the early side before service but that was no issue. The room had various sea themed displays and articles on the walls which were interested to look at, the table was laid out wonderfully although our table of 4 was laid for 2, this was soon rectified. As it was a Sunday we opted for their very well priced 3-course meal, however, we didn't have a choice on the meat for the roast dinner by hey ho. We ordered and the starters came flying out of the door (quick I mean not through the air) and this was delicious, the prawns were perfect and the garlic mushrooms to die for. Roast for mains and this too was perfect in portion size and really nice, the meat was a little dry and not how I have beef but passable. Dessert was divine, a local cheese board for me and was a lovely end to the meal. Overall great food, good service and would defo go back again, oh and reasonably priced.

We recently had an unsatisfactory dinning experience at Mishnish. It began with the waitress…read morerefusing to help us with what beers were being served. After telling us they had many to choose from I said wonderful what are they at which point she told me that there were to many for her to name. When I asked how could I choose she said I can select for you if you tell me what you like. I offered to go around to the bar in the hotel to select one and she told me that would not be possible. At that point I gave up and said I would just drink water. For dinner we decided to order the seafood platter for two, it sounded good and of course we were on the isle of Mull. My wife asked if the meal would be warm and if it would have bread and other accompaniments. She was told that it would be abundant and warm. What we were presented was far short of our expectations. First of all the meal was almost entirely cold and served at a refrigerated temp. There was only a 1/2 Lobster portion. A small side salad and there thin slices of bread. When we asked our waitress if the small salad and bread were meant to be shared she answered yes. She said she could bring us another salad which seemed reasonable however when we received our bill we were charged for an additional salad. The cold seafood food was quiet bland. The only given to accompany the crab claws , langoustines and small portion of lobster was mayonnaise and yellow mustard?????? It was completely disappointing.

During my most recent visits the Mish Nish had been going through a bit of a refurb including the outside brick work being painted yellow again to reflect the other brightly coloured buildings around it that are recognisable from the programme Balamory. On my most recent visit I noticed that the refurb had been completed for the hotel, the bar and the adjacent restaurant. I ended up in the bar most nights for a pint and on one night we decided to get some food from the adjoining restaurant. As a huge lover of seafood I only had one thing on my mind. Langoustine! Freshly caught beauties straight to the table. I was not disapointed, the seafood in Tobermory is other worldly and these langoustine lived up to my expectations. I never indulged in a started or dessert but did have some excellent white wine. The price of the meal was not cheap as it is the fancier part of the mish but it was good for a treat and a fancier night out. The actual bar of the mish also does some pub grub which I experienced also in the form of the soup of the day which was always cheap, tasty and filling. Tobermory is an absolutley beautiful place and I hope to continue to visit it for many more years.
