We're absolutely obsessed with the gyro platter, the Greek garbage plate, the garlic naan, and the butter chicken! I've dined in with friends and coworkers multiple times while in olean for work, but most of the time we only have time to get it to go. It's a very classy peaceful clean restaurant and bar. The Indian entrees at Mirchi are delicious (they also feature some Mediterranean options), and it's one of not-too-many places in Olean that vegetarians and vegans have several options to choose from. Spice levels can be adjusted to one's liking, which is always a bonus for me. That said, the service can be rather slow (we waited 45 minutes after ordering for a party of six with only two other tables and a few carryout orders ahead of us). Additionally, $20 for a vegetarian entree should probably include naan in the price (or it should simply be provided to the table), and $5 for a small order of it seems a bit stingy. Portion sizes are a bit smaller than one might expect for the price point. It's rice. Let's not skimp. On the plus side, the restaurant is attractive and features an appealing selection of beer and wine. Given that the overall quality of the food is good and that there are limited options in the area for people with dietary restrictions, I'd consider coming again. read more

Recently in Olean for business. Ive ordered Indian and Nepalese many times in different places. I don't know if I just made a bad choice, but I thought my chicken vindaloo order was mixed up for soup. Im used to vindaloo having a thicker consistency. Was very watery and bland, missing the strong aromas and flavors I typically find in vindaloo, tikka masala, etc. Naan and basmati were okay. Would also stay away from the mango lassi, mightve had too much ice since the flavor and consistency seemed really off. Overall seemed like very americanized indian food on the pricier side. Would not mind paying these prices for Indian done right. This did not satisfy my cravings for the flavors and aroma Indian dishes usually have and left me wishing I went elsewhere. read more

We went to Mirchi on Saturday night in our quest for some decent Indian food. We got there at 6pm and the place was empty, should have been a red flag but we ordered anyway. The prices on the apps were insane, $10.00 for 2 Vegetable Samosas, far over priced and the Vegetable Pakora was over cooked almost to the point of being burned. The entrees were tasty but a bit small and also overpriced, despite the current economic climate. I had Chicken Korma and Maggie had Butter Chicken. They were tasty but skimpy. I'm not sure we are going back. Maybe we'll give it a try in a few months! read more

5 stars for Hector! He was an incredible waiter, knowledgeable about the menu, and definitely went the extra mile. The food wasn't very spicy but he brought some chili powder and peppers for us to add to it. We were hoping for some spicier sauces and powders considering the name of the restaurant translates to "spicy". The Naan bread was delicious and thick. The samosas were freshly made with a distinguished taste. The palak aloo was only alright. I was hoping for more zest and flavor. Regardless, it was still quite tasty and definitely very authentic. So I am staying Olean, NY for business purposes. I decided to pick up Indian food tonight. I have to say that the taste of my order was delicious! I got the the lamb curry and the lamb meat was very tender. The blend of spices in the curry was aromatic and delicious! It was pretty authentic to south Asian dishes. And the rice it came with was very savory. I enjoyed the meal greatly. I was content with the service. The restaurant closed at 8:30; however, they allowed me to come and pick it up at 9:00 pm since I was driving in from Buffalo, NY. HOWEVER my major concern is cost. For the portion size the price was very high. Most Indian places I have been to give you double the amount of curry and triple the amount of rice for the same price. I was very dissatisfied with price and food amount. I realize that the Indian restaurant options are very limited here due to the area being remote. Yet I still believe there are improvements that can be made regarding size and cost of food. read more

I LOVE this restaurant! I wish I lived closer so that I could go more often! The service is always great and the food has amazing flavor. I highly recommend ordering a couple of different types of naan (onion and garlic are my favorites!) and the mixed grill so that you can try a little bit of everything. Nice addition to the Olean restaurant scene. All three entrees that we had were excellent and so were the three different kinds of Naan. Nice vegetarian selection too. The staff (shout out to Hector!) was very helpful, advising us about spice level and making suggestions for us. The beer and wine selections paired nicely with the food. One person in our party had never had Indian food and the staff was so helpful in describing the dishes and she loved what they recommended. Since I always try to add a suggestion or two here they are: lose the sticky balsamic reduction on the plate and the dance/techno music. The balsamic was just kind of messy and the music was just a little frantic. Not that I think that all Indian restaurants need a sitarist playing, but the music didn't feel very leisurely. But seriously, I'm nitpicking. This place is great! read more

The food was amazing but the service was god awful. The woman who waited our tables seemed distracted and as though she disliked her job a lot. I always assume that they may be having a bad day, but we waited 47 minutes for our order to be taken and even longer to get our bill. We ordered hummus for an appetizer but we never got it. We were still charged for it at the end. I really did enjoy the food and the other waiter was great... but she's either got to go or go through training again. read more

Second time here as great as the first. Chicken Tikka and Chicken Shashlik were fantastic. Potato and peas samosas were spicy sweet and savory. Best Indian in the area BY FAR!!! I've spent allot of time overseas and have almost given up finding authentic Indian food outside of Buffalo, but this is it. Excellent taste, spicy enough if you ask for extra, mild if you don't. Most local Indian are either super hot or bland, these guys can customize to taste. The Tandoori is tender and moist and the naan fluffy with a good, crackly crust. We've been back several times and have never been disappointed. Try the combination dinner I(I ask for medium spicy) with garlic naan and you'll see what I mean! read more

Very nice and attentive waitstaff. I was very excited to see Indian food available in Olean again, but was disappointed with the food here. Some items were unnecessarily spicy hot. The crust on the samosa light and delicious but the spicing of the filling was off. Portion size on seekh kabob was great but seasoning again was off. Very little sauce with another chicken dish. The tamarind sauce and raita was different than I've tasted before (and I live near Cleveland - eat Indian everywhere I go), but ok. Overall, this was a disappointment. The lamb curry was delicious and subtle. Good spiciness and depth of flavor. Could taste hints of garlic ginger and other spices. The yoghurt chicken tikka appetizer was very tender and nicely spiced. Excellent with the relishes. Palak paneer could've used a little more spice. Everyone in our party enjoyed their selections - Gyro plate, Greek salad with tandoori chicken, Chicken tikka, and Malai kabob - and the naan breads. All dishes were seasoned and prepared well. I'd never tried Indian cuisine before so when I was hanging out with some friends one night and we opted for take-out and movies, this was an interesting choice. Being a beginner, the Mixed Grill (Clay Oven Delicacies option) was a safe choice to try a little bit of everything. It came with chicken curry, Tendoori shrimp, chicken Tendoori, chicken Tikka, and Boti. We also added Naan bread (plain) and Potato Samosa (from the Appetizer menu). The only thing I didn't like was the Samosa (too spicy for me) and the shrimp (the shrimp flavor was really overpowering, but it could have just been the spices used). I can't say I'm a fan yet because it's only been my first try, but I really enjoyed the meal and would definitely order from Mirchi again. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem in an area that, with the exception of a few restaurants, lacks real cultural diversity. Mirchi can accommodate to anyone looking for true authentic Indian cuisine, traditional American dishes or a great selection of drinks from the bar. Personally, I have not had an appetizer, entree or dessert that I haven't loved. This restaurant also has a great atmosphere, with an outdoor patio, dining tables and a great looking bar. I ordered the Mirchi chicken soup, and the Mirchi salad, with Greek dressing. I also ordered chai tea. The description of the salad was "Fresh greens topped with red onions, apricots, almonds and Gorgonzola cheese." 90% of "the fresh greens" was iceberg lettuce. And, there were very few apricots and almonds. There were plenty of onions, as well as Gorganzola. The Greek dressing was mainly oil, with very little spices or flavoring. As for the chai tea, there was not a bit of spiciness, or sweetness. It tasted like Tetley black tea with milk. When the waiter relayed my opinion to the chef, the chef's relayed answer was that nothing had changed, and that is how the tea is made. I was going to leave one star, however, Jesse the waiter was excellent, and the chicken soup was flavorful. Iceberg lettuce is NOT fresh greens, and is a cheap substitute. Very disappointing for what is supposed to be an authentic Indian food restaurant. read more
