Her knowledge of the equipment they sell and how to best help personal needs could not have been better. My initial contact with Avada was set up through TrueHearing.com, as recommended by my health insurance company, and they offered a substantial savings over the cost of the same equipment sold by my audiologist. One thing to be aware of: Your payment at the time of order will be posted immediately, and if you return the hearing aids during the 45-day trial, the payment will not be refunded until 30 days after the order was made, and there can be a $125 "restocking fee". In spite of the small print, I would still highly recommend the Stark Street office of Avada.

But now that Starkey has been creating brands, they are not giving same level of focus on all these brands as they have w the Livio and Evolv AI aides. Now due to damage from poorly fitted and tuned Audibels , I am needing a cochlear implant. The audiology test done yesterday by specialty audiologist at Oregon Clinic found that was way off the mark regarding my audiogram. This may have contributed to my advanced decline of hearing. Audible does not work with cochlear implant as I will need a "Cadillac" of hearing for my left ear that correspond to cochlear implant in my right ear. And all the while I am having to pay $7000 for Audibel hearing that don't match my hearing needs or my audiogram . Also they do not use Hear Ear which is the gold standard for matching your audiogram to your hearing aides and eliminating several trips to the office to have hearing aides constantly retuned. This pertains to Willoughby in Gresham, OR. So what is your response to these issues?

I have a severe to profound loss and have worn aids for 40 years. I have an M.A. in Linguistics and had a great hearing aid provider before moving to Portland. So, I'm a fairly educated about what I need and know that the setting suggestions hearing aid companies provide are not what works best for me. Lorraine did the typical hearing test work up, looked at my old aids (Resounds), etc. She ordered a new pair of Oticons. Over several appointments, she worked to optimize the settings, even spending time during one appointment on the phone consulting with an Oticon audiologist. In the end, I decided that, while Oticon is a great brand that works well for many people, I prefer my Resounds. While I'd never returned aids before, I know some audiologists' policies have a deductible for doing so. When I returned the Oticons, I got a 100% refund. I asked Lorraine to deduct $400, which seemed fair for the amount of time she'd spent working with me. She replied that it was against company policy. I find getting new aids and going through the tweaking period to be a bit stressful, so for now, I'm taking a break from the process. Still, I came away from this experience thoroughly impressed with Lorraine and the Hearing Life policy.

However, I also felt like I was at a used car dealer. They wiped my hearing aides clean, plugged them in and put new mesh covers in. I can't help but feel like all they really wanted was to sell me hearing aides. Strange feeling. Whoever you are in management, stop pressuring these people to sell hearing aids. Customer service always comes first.
