After a few failed attempts to try Hula Truck at their downtown San Jose location, my friends…read morefinally brought me to their setup during a Sharks game and I'm glad they did. If you're checking out the concourse food and beverage map at the SAP Center, they're listed as Restaurant #220 - Hula Truck Hawaiian Barbecue on the second level. They had a cute little storefront sign, and once we ordered, we found a comfortable seating area nearby with TVs. I especially appreciated that it was slightly tucked away from the main foot traffic. it made the experience feel more relaxed and enjoyable. I ordered the poke nachos, which were delicious. The poke had a flavorful sauce with a subtle kick perfect even for someone like me who doesn't usually go for spicy food. The wonton chips were light, crispy, and not greasy, and they paired perfectly with the poke. It was just the right amount of food...filling but not too heavy. For dessert, my friend and I split the Halo-Halo with ube ice cream. It had a refreshing lychee flavor and wasn't overly sweet, which I really enjoyed. The staff was friendly, and it was great to learn that Hula Truck is run by a Filipino brother-and-sister team. As a fellow Filipino, it was nice to support their business and see them represented in such a visible way. 5 out of 5 for great food, great people, and a cute setup. I'm still hoping to catch them at their downtown location sometime soon!

At any food stall at a sporting event, the line can get long and the wait time is crazy. Also, they ran out of certain food items. Rice Bowl with Crispy Pork Belly. First off, it was pricey for the portion ~$25. The pork belly was ok and the sauce was a brownish wasabi-soy sauce. My other friends who also ordered the Crispy pork belly said, "the gravy sauce tasted weird to them." I'd try their other location.

I have Fire and Rice on my to try list for awhile so very happy we got to try it. The food was really good. I got the poke nachos and it's made with the wonton chips. Super crispy but well balanced with the poke and dressing. The service is good as well and they are super friendly people. Will definitely be back for more food here!

Final Thoughts: 4.33/5…read more They were our caterer for a work party. This is a food truck and they seem to have everything ready to be served to us. Asian fusion foods are typically my go-to choice and so I was very excited that they were providing us food today. Food: Garlic Fried Chicken Bowl: 4.3/5 The sauce on this is divine with the chicken. It's like an unagi sauce with garlic in it. It has some saltiness, sweetness, and that umami flavor. Garlic taste and scent is present, but not too overpowering, which I really enjoyed. That flavor is great, but some places really overdo it for me. Just a personal preference though. For the chicken itself, it's very tender and juicy on the inside and still has some of that nice crunch on the outside. Perhaps this is because the cut of meat is the chicken thigh. It's not super crispy because I don't believe this is being fried to order for us. Seems to be food held in a warmer until its ordered. Kimchi was the side that they had provided with this dish and I am here for that. Some people aren't the biggest fan of this and I saw that from the looks my coworkers gave it. Personally, very much enjoyed it though. That sourness and spice from the kimchi just balances out this bowl really well. The veggies are nice and crispy. Gives it that freshness. Also, very slight detail and addition, but I always enjoy the sesame seeds and furikake sprinkle as a garnish. There's a nice nuttiness to it that they provide as a simple garnish. Spicy Tuna Poké: 4.0/5 This item was alright. The flavor was also really good, but I did get tired of eating just one type of poke protein. Typically when I go to get poke, it's 2 to 3 scoops of different proteins with various sauces to change up the flavor. I did get tired of this one after a few bites. The flavor of this item was very good though. There's a nice kick from it and the flavor tastes like a mix of kewpie mayo, soy sauce, sriracha, and sugar. Very simple, but you can't go wrong with those flavors. For the side, they added seaweed salad. Again, not your average side dish. Personally, I enjoyed it, but it might not be a common or familiar side dish for other individuals. It has a nice sweetness and nuttiness to it. For texture, there's a nice bite to it, which is ncie since the tuna is very soft and doesn't contribute much to the texture component. Menu: Small Their menu seems quite limited, but again, that is normal for a food truck, I believe. The items they provide do it just fine for me. I appreciate that they also have an option for the vegetarians. The menu we were provided was limited to 4 items, which is fine since the scale of this party wasn't anything too wild and we were able to satisfy everyone with what they provided. --------- Quality: Alright The quality of the food seems OK. It came out within a few minutes for us and I don't think it takes just a few minutes to fry that piece of chicken. I could be wrong though, so no one quote me on that. Just an observation. Not the highest expectations because their limited to the space and area in general. The product they provide is very good though. Overall, for something that has raw seafood in it, it seemed quite fresh and tasty. The items aren't made to order either and it's more assemble and serve to order, but again, they seem to be making it work with the product that they are selling. Price: Estimated Because this was a catering event, I am actually unaware of how much my administrator paid for the food. What I know is that she paid for a certain amount of bowls. From the looks of this item though, I want to estimate the price of each bowl being around $16 to $20 depending on the food item provided. Seems quite average for a bowl of food these days. Service: Quick and fast Because most of the food is already prepared and ready, the interaction with them itself is very limited. They took our order and provided us with the food. Nothing too significant to note and that is to be expected with the food truck. They were very sweet though and explained the menu items to be when I had a question. Ambiance: Simple and cute food truck The design on their food truck is so cute. The riceball is my favorite because it has this very cute face and just looks darling to me. The outside has a simple design with the name and logo on top and then perhaps some of the food items they provide written on the bottom section of the truck. Doesn't seem like anything too fancy, but simplicity is best for me. Location/Parking: Wherever they travel and navigate to Because they're a food truck, they can drive to you, which is really convenient. On Yelp, it states that their located on 36 Commercial Street in downtown, which might be where their truck is serving most of the time. Again, it is a food truck though, so they have the ability to drive to you and travel around to their customers, which is quite convenient is reaching a broader group of people.

Love Scratch Cookery. This is what a Nashville hot chicken sandwich is supposed to be…read more Unlike a lot of the chains like Dave's where it can basically feel like a chicken tender thrown into a bun, Scratch serves a huge, thick piece of actual chicken breast. The portions are serious, the chicken is juicy, and the breading has a great crunch. What really sets them apart for me is the spice. I've had levels 3, 4, and 5, and they're not simply the same seasoning with progressively more heat. Each level actually has a different pepper profile and flavor. Level 3 brings cayenne and Thai chili, level 4 moves into Thai chili and habanero, and level 5 adds habanero and ghost pepper. You can taste the difference, not just feel more burn. The seasoned fries are great too and they definitely don't skimp on the portions. It is a little pricey for a chicken sandwich and fries, but when you see the size and quality of what you're getting, I think it's worth it. Scratch is easily one of my favorite hot chicken spots.

It was huge, juicy, and tasted absolutely amazing. The only downside was the customer service. The cashier gave us attitude when we asked how spicy level #3 was. He said it was like a habanero pepper, and when I asked again how spicy it actually was, he responded, "You've never had a habanero pepper?" That made me uncomfortable because I don't usually eat spicy food, and I don't work here to know your spice levels. There are tables inside, but the outdoor seating feels much nicer. The inside just has a weird vibe. We also got their IPA beer, which paired perfectly with the sandwich!

Thankfully this turned out to be a solid choice for pizza and they do the concept justice. It's not as saucy of a pizza, but they do well with a crispy crust and the flavorful toppings. Their signs hadn't been updated for pricing, but it was 8" for $13 and 12" for $19. Our number got called up pretty quick so we didn't have to wait very long for the pizza to be done (5 minutes tops). Some pepper/cheese packets available for additional toppings. The whole thing was given to us in a pizza box which made for pretty easy transport at the market. It's actually nice they they're not as sauce heavy as other pizza spots (I can't actually partake in tomato anymore, so the fact they had options for me was neat too). We settled on the Chorizo for a more cheese-heavy and tomato free experience. Toppings were very fresh and the bottom/crust had a nice airy crispiness that made it worth eating to the last bite. Had a medium amount of heat to it with the jalapenos, but not too much without them. Remarkably flavorful and really well done (the little chorizo bites were quite popping, but so were the cheese bits). Definitely grab something from them if you're on the hunt for good pizza on the go.

I was pretty excited by the reviews and the Mexican fusion concept, but to be honest found the pizza a little bland. While the crust was really thin, the pizza was light on the sauce and cheese, resulting in too high a crust to toppings ratio, and as as a whole just not very filling for the price.
