This day marks our one month anniversary of being saved by True American Hero, Donny…read more On our way home from our trip to D.C., my three friends and I found ourselves stranded on a very precarious shoulder on the side of a highway in Claysville, WV. My tire was completely shredded and my rim was bent almost in half (thanks, Indiana potholes.) While waiting for AAA we were looking frantically for a shop that would be open on a Sunday evening. My friend found a Walmart nearby that according to Google Maps, had a tire center that was open until midnight. As that didn't sound QUITE right, we decided to call ahead and make sure. Don was the angel to answer that call. He told us that unfortunately they were getting ready to close, but he didn't feel comfortable turning us away. He told us that he was going to ask permission from his higher up to stay late for us and call us back. Sure enough, he called back saying he would wait. AAA still wasn't even with us, but he told us it didn't matter, he'd be there waiting. The AAA man eventually came and told us there was no way Walmart could fix this. After putting on my donut and accompanying us to the nearest gas station to get air, he left us, and we called Don. "I can fix it." We arrived at Walmart an hour and a half after Donny's shift. He had to open in the morning. But it didn't matter, because he just wouldn't have felt right if he didn't stay. Sure enough, Don was able to bang that tire into submission. They don't call him Big D for nuthin'! After two fresh tires he was also concerned I may be leaking break fluid, so he took even more time to just check around and make sure we were safe, offering to help us find a hotel room and recommending garages in the area in the case we had to stay. Finally, hours after the ordeal had begun, Donny got us on our way back to Ohio that night then to Chicago the next day. We were safe and everyone even made it to work on time. When all was said and done, our misadventure had become a fun anecdote and one of the highlights of our trip, as opposed to the catastrophe it could have been, thanks to Donny. He even contacted us the next day to ensure we'd make it back to Ohio safely. It's a beautiful thing to be helped by complete stranger going above and beyond, renewing your faith in humanity. Donny will forever remain in our hearts a TRUE. AMERICAN. HERO.

It's a pretty standard Giant Eagle - it's not the smallest one I've shopped in but it's not as big as some of the Market Districts, either. That said, I'm not a regular Giant Eagle shopper since I have access to an Aldi; Giant Eagle is OK if you need to make a one-stop shopping trip (especially when it's decently sized like this one), but unless you pay close attention to their sales and deals, you really won't be saving money on that trip. My recommendation is to shop here in a pinch and/or if you're taking advantage of a bargain deal; but your wallet will thank you if you do your regular shopping elsewhere.

The woman who rang up my two bottles of wine at this Kroger called me "darling" no fewer than five times during our four-minute interaction, and I loved it. As if we were continuing a conversation we had left off earlier, she also jumped into the middle of a story about a man who was looking for tomato sauce. I didn't follow but just went with it all. By the time I left the grocery store, gripping a bottle of red in each hand like a wino, I felt like I had gained a friend in Wheeling. My Kroger visit happened because I tried to visit a wine store in downtown Wheeling that didn't actually exist. Undeterred, I stopped into Kroger to see what was what in the wine section. They were actually having a huge sale, with many good bottles under $10, so I grabbed a Malbec and a Cabernet. The sale was so good that I wanted to go back and grab a few more bottles, but I resisted. I was visiting from out of town, and there's only so much room in the car for wine. This Kroger is a little hidden from the road, and you need to make some turns to get into the parking lot. But once you get to it, it's a nice little Kroger with nice people.

The square has a covered area now too, with lots of seating so it can be enjoyed year round. There's so many great restaurants and cafes around the square, and there's expanded outdoor dining at a lot of the restaurants, as well.

It was recently renovated just in time for the NFL Draft to allow more accessibility and better space for events. In the public area, there are some tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the area. They also seem to plan to have a lot more semi-permenant attractions in the space. Currently their is a roller rink (which is surprisingly affordably priced) . It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.

They have a huge selection of drink coolers to pick from. We also grabbed some pre made options for lunch the next day. We were able to get a nice variety to please everyone. You can also go upstairs to eat and it wasn't crowded with lots of tables.
