It's always hard to find Indian food that won't break the bank & this place popped up on Yelp & looked reasonable. Located in an old strip mall next to a smoke shop, a Pizza Hut, Yogurtland, & some really old stores. Walking in, greeted by windows covered in red fabric. To your immediate left is a small corner that has a small table where they store all their utensils & menus. Then it's pretty much just a straight hallway with no more than 8 tables & parallel to the dining area is their entire kitchen. No decor on the walls. Not sure if this place just opened but it's empty. We ordered the typical chicken tikka masala ($11.95 for about 6 pcs of cubed chicken), their garlic naan ($3.00 each), & an order of white rice ($3.00 & plenty to share between 2). The masala is so good here! I wanted to lick that bowl clean! The garlic naan was also good, could use a little more garlic for my taste. Took away 2 stars due to location, ambiance, & it took a long time for our food to be served. Granted the dining room was not full, but I did notice a lot of to go orders. That probably explains why. Absolutely our favorite Indian restaurant in the area. I've tried at least 4 or 5 other places but nothing comes close. Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Korma are our faves; the naan and samosas are excellent as well! Chicken Karahi and Lamb Vindaloo are great if you're in the mood as well! About a month ago, the better half and I were waiting on our order from Tommy Pastrami and decided to walk Kamena through around the Alicia Plaza Shopping Center. We checked out the menu, bookmarked the restaurant and decided it was worth a visit when we weren't tethered to our four-legged family member. Fast forward to last weekend which saw the reinstitution of "Bookmark Saturday" and a dining experience at Mint Restaurant. A server greeted us and told us to sit at any unoccupied table. At first we picked a small table for two, but knowing we usually get a large sampling of the menu when visiting a new restaurant, we eventually moved to a larger table. Once we were settled, drink orders were taken and menus were handed out. The menu is pretty straightforward and consists of Appetizers, Vegetable Courses, Mint Specials, Chicken Courses, Lambs Courses, Biryani, Side Dishes, Naan, Drinks and Desserts. This is a family restaurant with a few tables set up to accommodate large parties and a few of the family young (loud) children. If you are looking for a romantic evening, don't dine here. Rohlinism: Children are spawned by romance, but romance is not spawned by children! While perusing the menu, we debated getting the Maint Tandoori Mixed Platter (two eat of tandoori chicken, samosas, prawn shrimp and lamb seekh kabab), but decided it would be too much food with the rest of our order and skipped the appetizer. The kitchen completed our order in a reasonable period of time and the entrees came out first, followed shortly thereafter by the rice, raita and naan. We don't eat Indian cuisine very often, but when we do Mayur Cuisine of India in Corona Del Mar is the "yardstick" by which all other restaurants are measured. The biggest fail and it was the garlic naan. This is one item we will order at every new Indian restaurant we visit and this was probably one of the worst. The naan was served close to room temperature which means the naan had already hardened and the better half thought we had been given regular naan until I was able to point a few pieces of minced garlic on this naan. The kitchen needs to be more liberal with the minced garlic since vampires only exist in horror movies and if someone orders garlic naan it means they like garlic! Laina wasn't a fan of the cheese naan either, she didn't like the flavor of the cheese with the naan. I liked it and at the very least it was served warm and had the correct texture for naan bread. The rice portion was large for the price ($3.00) and probably would have supported three entrees and not just the two we ordered. The rice was the traditional basmati and it was cooked to perfection. The raita was a huge hit with the wife and helped make up for the non-garlic naan. She didn't even mind the small pieces mixed into the yogurt base and the cucumber. Both entrees were on the larger side. The lamb came with four chops and the 1/2 chicken was a generous portion. Speaking of generous, if you love onions, they smothered the plate from one end to the other. My loving wife loves onions with her tandoori chicken and there were onions and to spare on both entrees. The chicken had the correct spiciness for tandoori chicken with the paprika and cumin being the most dominate spices. The chicken wasn't overcooked and dry which can be an issue with clay oven cooking at Indian restaurants. The lamb was equally seasoned and cooked to a medium. I wouldn't rate either dish as high as their counterpart at Mayur, but I think the price point here is justified by the quality of the menu items. The service was helpful and attentive throughout the service and the owner even stopped by as I was taking care of the check to inquire as to how we enjoyed the meal and discovered the restaurant. I think he was amused by the answer I gave regarding the discovery of his restaurant. We don't desire Indian cuisine often, but Mint will be an option when the craving hits us! read more

Bottom line up front: Phenomenal food, fantastic customer service, cleanliness is top notch, and very reasonable prices compared to portion provided. FOOD: Wow. We had the lamb karaki, eggplant, goat karaki, butter chicken, and goat biryani. Everything had tons of flavor, came out piping hot, tasty, and well prepared. Each dish was deceptively delicious. PRICE: For what you are getting, you are getting everything at a huge discount. But don't let that fool you into thinking the food is cheap. If you order a karaki dish, the entire thing comes out in a huge wok sized dish. The quantity is enormous. The portions are generous. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Yama gave us the best possible customer service I have received. It was personalized, it was friendly, and he was honest. His recommendations were spot on. Advising on why to get and how to eat it to fully experience the authenticity of the dish! We're originally from Texas but my family and I decided to stop at this restaurant to have some authentic Pakistani/Indian food. This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever ventured to take. As we enter the restaurant we were welcomed with a humbling amount of hospitality. Iqbal and his family treated us like family and provided us with an overwhelming amount of love. This on its own would be enough to burn this incredible experience into our memories but then we received our order. I am very picky when it comes to food from this region because I grew up on it and I cook it myself. I can't stress enough how delicious and well prepared the food here is. The delicious flair filled Biryani. Karahi lamb cooked in an authentic black Karai wok like they do back home. The dish is also served in the karahi at your table! The meat was tender and juicy the mango lassi was sweet and refreshing (not too yogurty like most places). Also, the family showed us how to eat the food in combination with each other to get the most satisfaction. This was not only one of the best tasting Pakistani/Indian food the experience was better than anything I've experienced. I don't usually write yelp reviews but I had to when it comes to this restaurant because even 6 months after our trip I still reminisce about this experience. Very solid spot. I had not had Indian food for a long time and decided to grab take out since restaurants are still not open for business due to COVID19. Placed a phone order and the food was ready in 25 mins for pickup. Decided to go for the samosas, onion kulcha, chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani dishes for 2 people. Cannot comment on the service, but the quality of the food was very good. The samosas were crunchy and perfect; the chutneys were perfectly spiced. The chicken tikka masala dish does not come with rice. Regardless, this dish was really flavorful and delicious. The onion kulcha was a must order dish was well, packed with lots of flavor. The chicken biryani dish was the best bang for your buck. Huge portion, lots of greatly spiced rice and a generous amount of chicken. We both had leftovers for 2 people. Only gripe is that i think they should serve rice or bread with the chicken tikka masala instead of making you pay an additional fee, since it is a little bit more expensive compared to other Indian restaurants i have ate at before. This was a decent spot but it is a little pricey for what you get. For the portions and prices you pay you could get easily double the amount in food at a Chinese, Szechuan, Thai or Korean restaurant which is saying considering Korean and szechuan restaurants are typically on the pricier side. We got an order of garlic Naan, chicken Tikka Masala and the goat vindaloo. I felt that the food was fine but not great. Nothing special to it. With Indian food I feel that a lunch buffet is the most with your money because the a la carte menu is super expensive almost 15+ each dish and is really only enough for 1 person at a time. Really great flavor but their portions kinda suck for the cost. The last time we went, we ordered a shrimp dish that was about twenty dollars and got about six shrimp total. Today we ordered chicken Tikka masala and there were only eight bite sized pieces of chicken. They also do not include rice with their entrees, which isn't bad since it's only three dollars for the rice, but it is different compared to most places we order from. My family and I ordered take out from here for dinner. We got 3 orders of chicken tikka masala, 1 tandoori chicken, and 3 sides of garlic naan. When I found out that the entrees don't come with rice, I asked how much it was and the man taking our order said $3. I asked how many people that was for and he said 1. So I ordered 3. When we got home we realized that we had 3 full containers of rice... I feel like we were lied to so that we would buy more food. The tandoori chicken my husband ordered was very good, but all of the chicken in the chicken tikka masala was extremely dry and the pieces were massive. Overall, I'm not sure how this place has 4.5 stars, maybe you get better food and service if you dine in... Update: I received a wonderful email (from who I can only assume is the owner) tell me that I was "incorrect" to say that I was charged an extra $6 for rice. So I'm changing my review to one star. I have had instances of changing low reviews to be higher because of the actions of management but I think this is the first I've actually made it lower because of what an owner has said. Look no further. Come and eat at this Pakistani restaurant!! This place is authentic and the real deal. This is a massive place perfect for parties or groups. The service is excellent here and the portions are huge. If you like spicy this is a place to be otherwise you can let them know what your spice level is. We had beef, chicken and lamb dishes- I don't know the names because my father-in-law ordered it and it was absolutely amazing.
