I've been to Mint a few times to take advantage of their 'Tranquil Tuesday' deals. It's slightly cheaper than most spas in DC and the therapists are trained in different types of massage. Maurice was my therapist last night and I would definitely go back to him. He's quite attentive to health issues and adjusts the massage to your troubled areas. They also do a Thai massage that I'm looking forward to trying... Mint is a quick in and out spa. It's relaxing, there's not a lot of waiting, and it's pretty easy to get last minute appointments. If you are a rare spa go-er and want more of an experience, I would try elsewhere. But for the on-the-go city dweller, I really like this place. read more

As an update for all, my wife had been a current member, and as a result the Membership Manager did reimburse us the enrollment fee. It was a bit of a process, and it took a while to get a response (not sure if this review impacted that or not), but eventually it was fixed. I've tried a ton of gyms in the city over the five years I've lived here (thanks, ClassPass!) and have to say MINT is one of the best. It's clean (like, really clean), full of friendly staff and most importantly, offers a variety of different classes, each one challenging in its own way. But for me the best part is the interaction with the instructors. I've been to too many classes where the instructor felt out of reach, unhelpful or (worst of all!) unchallenging, but not so at MINT. I'd highly recommend classes with Liz or Coleen if you get a chance! read more

MINT is the best! If I had K Street monies I would totally be a member; alas I don't (yet) so I use ClassPass to pretend to live the 1% lifestyle. So far I've taken spin classes and they have been really great. I also love their minty cool towels and the lovely coffee/tea bar. The women's locker room is what all gym locker rooms should aspire to be: clean, fresh smelling and stocked with nice amenities. I plan on trying their yoga and barre classes via ClassPass. MINT Dupont is a really nice gym, not too big, not too small with a nice variety of classes and individual activities. It is also closely located to where I live. It's clean with water and towels provided throughout the gym and I would recommend it to others! read more

One of my favorite things about MINT Dupont is the power playground and TRX area. I love Liz Harvey's classes -- she is consistently motivating and is an excellent instructor (i.e., demonstrates movements and possible modifications, rotates the room to look at form). I am not a full member of MINT Dupont and use ClassPass to attend classes at the gym. I wish MINT Dupont was more conveniently located to my condo and a little less pricey -- if I could join as a full member I would. I joined Mint a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier! The machines are never full, even at peak times, and the spin classes are really challenging. The locker rooms are clean and nice, and the sauna is small but almost always empty. I attend MINT Barre classes at the "Dupont" location (which I would argue is more Adams Morgan than Dupont). I have never been disappointed by this gym - it is always extremely clean, smells good, and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The barre class is fun and challenging, and the instructors are professional yet approachable. The showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms are clean and spacious. The mint and lemon water and the refreshingly cold mint towels are nice touches. Highly recommend checking out MINT (though I was tempted not to recommend it only because I love that it's never too crowded)! :) Oh, and a bonus perk - the awesome coffee machine! read more

I took advantage of the 5-day trial and I'm so glad I did! Not only was the gym manager super accommodating about my start date (I hurt my back so had to push it back) the gym itself was super warm and inviting. I have been utterly disappointed with the service I have received from Mint Dupont manager who doesn't respond to calls or emails. They are very keen to take your money but if you are due a refund - nobody follows up. I have been a Mint member on and off for several years and previously had have had really good experiences (thank you Gabe!) including personal training. Mint is okay. It is dependable, I have never seen it get too crowded, and it has a great water dispenser although there are too many plastic cups out for people. But I would say the cost is high for a basic gym and the classes are not the greatest. So overall the quality per dollar is not fantastic. But I will say it is nicely lit, clean, and has enough amenities. I do think it's a bit overpriced for the quality but they say the best gym is the one you go to so if you can get there, I'd say it's worth it. read more

I've been to both the Dupont and Downtown locations and have enjoyed both. I have only gone to the Mint Ride and Power Playground classes, both of which have been challenging in a good way. I am a fan of Gabe's Power Playground class, he's attentive, energetic and does a good job of explaning. I normally don't like spin classes without clipping in (which you can if you have your own cycling shoes) but I still feel like a get a good workout in the Mint Ride Classes. The cold hand towels afterwards are awesome. The locker rooms are well equipped with hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, and even one use razors in case you forget yours at home. read more

Even though it took almost a month for them to respond to inquiries about a membership (I was literally begging them to take my money in the end because I thought they didn't want me in the club and it seemed short exclusive - that could bd a plus?) it's a great community, so 3 stars. It could be cleaner, and there are other gyms with way more equipment for the same price. My husband and I started finding that the trainers and their clients would take up so much space and equipment that it got difficult to do our own routine unless it was late at night. But the best thing here are the classes because of the instructors. They get to plan their own classes and that makes it exciting. Every instructor had their own personality and it really makes a difference from gyms with cookie-cutter routines. I've done every kind of class at MINT and have only once in six months felt disappointed. The instructors are just amazing. read more

Love this gym. Power playground is my favorite class - it's a great total body workout and I love the variety of strength/HIIT moves. After a great class, this gym has all the amenities (and more!) that you would want - showers, lockers, mint infused towels, lemon infused water, and coffee. I've been a member at almost every gym and studio in NW. I thought this was going to be the one, but alas, not. Overall the staff was courteous. Skip, the manager, was helpful with questions. However, I just got a schemey vibe from this place. Like they would throw an extra charge at you if you weren't looking. (I see now they're charging for class cancellations). Many of the guests were uppity and pretentious. With the exception of Megna who was THE worst group fitness instructor I have ever encountered (no exaggeration), their barre and pilates teachers are among the best in the city. Timea, Connie, Sarah and Kathryn were consistently professional and courteous and really know their stuff. Brook was another great group ex instructor. The other instructors were just ok- not great, not bad. I decided to leave because I didn't feel like I was getting what I paid for. Although the bodywash and lotion is heavenly, and the gym and locker rooms were always neat and clean, there was little sense of community mostly mediocre instructors for $100/ month. No problems cancelling, but management showed no concern with my feedback. read more

i've been a member for nearly two years, but this year is the first time I tried classes other than yoga and pilates. I've been to Bollywood Dance, Zumba, Bellydance Cardio and about 15 FLEX and Power Playground classes at Mint (mixed between both locations) since the new year and I'm blown away by how good the trainers and the classes are. Very upscale gym in a great location. Tons of equipment- I've never had to wait to use a machine. And There's a wide variety of classes at all times of the day. The only negative is that the locker room is very compact- if you're changing right before or after a class, you'll definitely be limited on personal space. Horrible experience and customer service. I booked a facial at the down town location and they moved my appointment to the Dupont location without any confirmation because their esthetician was out of town! This was not convenient for me at all. I spoke to someone that told me that told me they can bring their esthetician from Dupont to the Downtown location , but those promises were unfulfilled. I spoke to several rude receptionists that were not accommodating. I could not find this place, I called in after I was running 15 minutes late, and they rudely told me that I have already been charged for the service and that I would not be getting refunded, If I wanted another service, I would have to pay the full amount. read more

Integrity is questionable when it comes to dealing with this establishment, especially when it comes to money issues. Stay away if you can, or at least avoid the automatic monthly "requirements"; otherwise, you will be sorry when trying to terminate your membership, regardless to how many months you have been a member of the spa. I speak from experience, I am sorry to say, but would surely not like to see others going through what I have had to endure and continue to do so.. As a neighborhood person, who lives less than 2 blocks from this establishment, I was estatic when such a lovely spa was opened so close to my home so I joined up BIG TIME shortly after the opening and have been a member in good standing and on automatic monthly payments (required) for more than 5 years. Due to a fall and knee injury in 2005, I missed more than 2/3 of the year; however, I continued to pay the monthly membership; during 2010, I started to develop arthritis in the same knee and missed again more than 2/3 of the year while attending rehab classes at the National Rehab Hospital; finally in 2011 my doctor suggested that I take aquatherapy for my continuing arthritis problem. I informed Mint that I would be looking for such a place and sent in medical reports and physician recommendations (again required) to confirm that I would be cancelling my membership and why. In spite of having everything in writing from me, their "stealth" accounting department attempted to charge my credit card using a nondisclosed firm (no telephone; nothing to verify) to bill me for 3 months and are still continuing to try to bill me while holding on to my medical records--won't release them until I pay them and I have not been in Mint for at least 6 months! Can't get anyone at Mint to talk to me. After more than 5 years as a monthly paying customer all that time, I would think I deserved better. Neighborhood establishment - Yes! Integrity - No! ***You may want to approach the body wash with caution, it's extra spicy in places where the sun don't shine. Fonsworth Bently would work out here. Depending on what kind of gym person you are, that can be a good or a bad thing, allow me to explain... Mint isn't a gym. Instead it's more like the home of the top 1% with a bunch of exercise equipment in it. There's abstract art on the walls, wood floors, and other things found in the flat of a wall street banker. I come from the gritty side of corporate gyms (see my Bally's review) so this kind of gym is a breath of fresh air. However, to those of you who are actual gym gym people, i.e. those of you doing wrist curls, then this may be too girlie of a gym for you. There's only a flat bench press station (no incline and/or decline like other gyms), there isn't an abdominal/crunch machine of any kind (nor a calf machine for that matter), and most importantly Mint is missing mirrors for those of you who love the beauty of self. My guess is this was done intentionally to keep those grunting meat heads out.... good move Mint, good move... although, I am extra motivated when I see myself getting my Popeye on in the mirror, but I can live without it. For those of you who aren't gym rats, then you should be satisfied equipment wise (dumb bells up to 100 and barbell to at least 110, a flat bench, 2 incline benches, 2 stretch areas, a studio, treadmills, bikes, and various machine equipment). The gym isn't ever too crowded (came twice during the 6pm hr, which is a madhouse in most gyms) and the staff is extra friendly (they know your name and do bougie things, like offer to sign you up for a massage). The locker room plays soothing meditation music, as well as techno savvy lockers that don't require a lock. Plus they have a sauna and actual towels, standard person size towels (managed to yap a few during my 5 day free trial) and the showers are nicely tiled, you actually enjoy your shower, rather than feel grossed out. This gym keeps up with the mint theme by providing mint everything... there are pitchers of minty water (prolly just tap water, but actual mint), mint mouth wash, mint lotion that's actual lotion (not that 75% water 25% lotion mix at most gyms), there's mint face towels (refrigerated of course), mint shampoo, mint conditioner and mint body wash (***see warning at start of review)...Whew, that's a lot of mint, reminds me of Bubba when he listed all the shrimp dishes. I didn't have enough time to check the spa out (nor am I too sure I'm that metro yet) but the fact that there's a spa saying a whole lot. The price I was offered was $80+ / month, which is on the heavy side, but if you don't mind paying for the finer things than Mint is worth your while. read more

Only go to Mint if you never plan on quitting. They have the most horrible billing practices I have ever experienced. It's going on May and I cancelled my membership back in January and apparently extended Mint an interest-free loan on continuing payments which were wrongly charged to my credit card. I only got them to stop by cancelling my credit card. Worst customer service all the way up to the Owner level. That said, the trainers are great and deserve better than Mint. read more

I joined Mint when they first opened. The staff was great, the equipment new. Over time is continually dropped a notch. All the great staff started jumping ship. The equipment started to break down. I noticed that there was wear on one of the bands on the seated press machine and brought it to Skip's attention. He seemed irritated that I was pointing it out. The sauna repeatedly broke down, and I love the sauna, need it to survive the city life. Skip snapped at me when I asked when it would be fixed. MInt was my 3rd attempt at local gyms/clubs. I moved on to a very nice club, The Sports Club LA on M street 21st NW. I am more than happy. I am healthy. read more

Probably the worst gym in the area you can join. First with the false advertising of being flexible and unlike other gyms "you can join month to month" this a flat out lie. Next so this does not appear to be too biased lets look at the plans which for the same cost as other gyms in the area you can use only the weights... For a higher cost than every other gym you can go to the classes. There are at least 3 other gyms in a 4 block radius with better plans. So the gym itself is smaller than the others with less amenities, surely the flexibility would make this desirable yet it is not more flexible, with cancellation fees with hidden fees such as upgrades to the gym costs every 3 months so assume your membership monthly about 10-12 more per month. I highly advise to avoid and go to the other gyms in the area. read more

But I've been literally plagued by the sales staff, who won't stop calling me and emailing me even after I asked them to stop. I am not a member of Mint, nor do I intend to become one. This is a review of their Pilates classes and private instruction. You do not need to be a member of Mint to take the classes which I very much appreciate. I hate gyms and gym memberships, but I love Pilates and yoga classes and its pretty rare that a gym allows non-members to take their classes. Mint is near where I live, so I was pretty psyched to learn that I could take their classes and not have to join. Pilates instruction in particular is not as easy to find as yoga, so when I saw a deal to get several Pilates classes at a reduced price, I jumped on it. I hadn't had the opportunity to take an apparatus class before. As a condition for redeeming my Groupon I had to take a private class first. This was fine by me because all of my previous Pilates experience was on the mat and I needed to learn how to use the reformer. They offer half off for your first private class. Timea is the senior Pilates instructor at Mint. I've ended up taking 3 private sessions with her to learn all about the reformer machine so that I could join in a group class and not fall behind. Timea is an excellent instructor -- I highly recommend taking a private session with her if you've never worked on a reformer before or if you just want to take your Pilates practice to the next level. The gym itself is quite beautiful - it's clean, modern, and bright. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I haven't checked out the spa before, but it does look very peaceful and inviting. And expensive. I wish I could continue with more private instruction with Timea, but unfortunately the price for a private session is now $103 a pop. I just can't afford that, but for my purposes the three sessions were incredibly valuable and a wonderful opportunity to learn some new Pilates exercises. The group reformer classes are terrific, too! Timea is a 5-star instructor; the only reason I am giving this review 3 stars is just because the cost of the classes puts them out of my price range. read more

I have been a member for years and I have watched this place go downhill. It seems like the owners can't figure out the right balance between making money and keeping the clients happy. Love the amenities -- the mint infused cool face cloths, the mint water, the new equipment. But great staff has left in droves, leaving a distinctly un-MINT-like feeling about the place. Over time, some of the newer instructors have lacked the skills that the others had before them and classes have gone downhill. And it's pricey. It's worth comparing it to other places around and seeing what fits your needs best. For me, it's no longer MINT. read more

I purchased a 10 class pass to Mint after trying ClassPass a few times. It's conveniently located (there are two BikeShares nearby), which has helped me stick to a morning routine. They also have a free coffee machine for after workouts, which is a nice treat after a 6:30am class. I mostly do classes, and what I like most about the instructors is how positive they are. Barre classes aren't super intense, but they feel good and help with stretching and toning. I like how intimate the classes are. Locker rooms are nice. I wish they didn't have so many plastic cups. Facility is perfectly fine, though classes are not as good as other gyms. They also require 30 days notice to cancel or change anything on your account, which of course, is just a way for them to keep extracting money from you. So even though I told them to change my membership a full twenty days before billing, they went ahead and made the charge anyways. Great for their customers. read more
