I come to this gym every weekday before work or as a break from work and always get an excellent workout in. They have plenty of cardio machines with two stairmasters, quite a bit of treadmills, and several elliptical machines. I usually always get access to a squat rack as they have five racks. They do a lot of classes here, including Pilates, yoga, cycling, HIIT, etc. I haven't been able to attend one yet but from what I have seen, they look good. The price is a little steep, but I love that this gym isn't always fully packed. It's small but mighty. My favorite touch is that they offer a minty cold wet towel for you to cool off with and have a coffee machine if you need a little boost after your workout. read more

This used to be a great gym. Then Bresni Maldanado came along. Mint DC (DuPont Circle) is a cramped, junky, poorly managed facility in constant disrepair. For $200 dollars a month you can be treated to broken cardio machines, wire fraud, larceny and a truly miserable experience. There are better gyms in town. Don't waste your time on Mint DC. I literally had to file a police report for wire fraud by the Maldanados to get a refund. Stay away. read more

Review is for classes only. I've been going to MINT's classes for a couple of years and I've enjoyed power flex, power playground, barre, vinyasa yoga, hip hop, and Doonya Bollywood dance fitness. And there are more classes than that, so as you can see, the variety is there! They used to have yoga sculpt and hope they bring it back! Myke is a motivating instructor who teaches the early AM power flex progressive strength classes as well as power playground which is cardio + strength. Maddy is energetic too and Jeannie's Bollywood class is super fun (+ great playlist!). I've taken Laura's yoga classes and she has a very comforting voice and way of teaching. The gym itself has a spacious locker room/bathroom, and everyone I've interacted with there has been friendly. I feel stronger every time I visit! read more

I've been going to mint for 6 months now. I have had really good experiences with several different aspects of the gym. the place is really clean and nice. For the most part, people also seem to pick up after themselves after using a machine. There is plenty of equipment for any kind of workout you might wanna have. There is a lot of squat racks, bench press, benches, etc... only thing I would add is maybe another pec fly machine(always has one or two people using it). My favorite amenities were the sauna, cold towels and coffee machine. read more

I've recently joined MINT about a month ago and I've really enjoyed it so far. It's very clean and the staff are friendly and nice and its not intimidating like other gyms I've been to in the area. The machines are always working and I've found that the members always wipe them down after use and are courteous and respectful of others. Only reason I won't give it 5 stars is b/c of the price and that classes aren't included in the membership package. read more

Through ClassPass, I've been able to try out different gyms and studios. Mint by far is one of the cleanest, has the nicest staff and the equipment/lockers are well kept. My only qualm is the number of credits needed for a one hour gym session compared to other gyms, guess you really get what you pay for. read more

Avoid at all costs. While the classes and the instructors were great, nothing is worth the endless, convoluted process to end my membership. I thought the process was finally over in July, and I check my credit card statement today to find a 17.50 facility fee from Mint in October. I understand businesses are hurting but individuals are also hurting, and these kinds of practices are absolutely unacceptable. Please, go to other gyms in the area that have less shady business practices. And if someone from MINT is reading this, please officially remove me from your membership. Love this gym! The staff is super friendly, the facilities are always clean and the gym isn't overcrowded after 5 which is amazing. My favorite part is the dry sauna which is perfect after a workout. The gym is just okay and I have decided to leave. As others have noted, there is an addtional fee you must pay each year that is not clearly disclosed. One only has to go to their current web site and look at the rates to see it is not disclosed. I don't like businesses that are not upfront and transparent. The cleanliness is also not great. Their air intake grates are totally disgusting and womans showers can get gross. And, the temperature is way too warm for a great cardio workout. Also, no paper towels in the bathrooms. I like the committment to the real towels, but sometimes I just need a paper towel. And while Bresni is nice, she's ineffective. read more

I love everything about mint. I used to do classpass but found myself almost exclusively using it for Mint classes. So I finally decided to just go for the membership and I'm so glad that I did. I love the diversity of classes and all of the instructors vary from excellent to awesome. I have also used the personal training (Sam is super fantastic). Everything about mint makes me want to return and actually use my membership unlike the drudgery of past gyms I have joined. The atmosphere feels very welcoming and encouraging and accepting of all stages and levels of fitness. I also just really love the minty towels, it is a very refreshing tool for positive reinforcement and I look forward to that towel during every workout! The coffee machine is also a huge motivator to for actually wanting to work out in the mornings! read more

They market on being a friendly and independently owned, but what's the point of going to the small guy when they have no personal touch and gouge their customers? They shadily make it hard to find how to cancel, and even when they're fully aware you want to cancel, terms are buried on an intentionally confusing website, you call ahead for instructions and make your cancellation wishes known, they'll avoid giving you all the details until it's just barely too late and charge you for a new month you can't use. Like major gym chains, they have no real commitment or courtesy to their customers. Save money and a headache and just sign up for a better managed chain of gyms. I normally always go with independent businesses, but I didn't see any perk of doing that with Mint DC, just as unhelpful and money squeezing from customers as everyone else. read more

I went in for a free trial visit the other day. PROS: Friendly staff, mint-flavored water, mint/eucalyptus towels, excellent amenities in locker rooms (razors, LCD tv, digital lockers, sauna, individual stools), free coffee, not crowded at all. CONS: low-grade, outdated equipment (mostly Cybex machines), no StepMill (my favorite cardio machine), limited equipment selection, very small gym floor, pilates/spa are both extra, overpriced membership dues ($98/mo). Yes, the minty water and digitial lockers are nice touches, but this gym is just really disappointing, even at half the price. Results (across the street) is far nicer, has much more equipment to choose from, and is 25% less. Even the WSC in Dupont (although the staff there is pretty rude/nasty) is significantly nicer. I really don't get the appeal of this place. I honestly think that places like Bally's and Gold's have better facilities overall. The zen-spa music in the background is also kind of peculiar for a gym. Despite some nice luxuries and a friendly staff, I can't recommend Mint, even if it were half the cost. read more

I've been a member for a couple of months now and for the most part I like Mint. The price is about what you'll pay for any of the fancy gyms in this town (even Results costs a pretty penny), and it's incredibly convenient to me so I can't really complain. The staff here are friendly, the free minty fresh water is nice, and the gym and locker areas are very clean. They definitely know that people paying this much money expect something that doesn't look like a derelict gym where Rocky or Tyler Durden would work out. You get a free consultation with a personal trainer when you sign up, meaning you get to craft a workout program with them if you'd like. Equipment-wise, it's great if you are a cardio bunny. There are lots of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and other machines that will really get your heart rate going. There are plenty of weight machines as well, but that brings me to the biggest con: the free weights offering isn't quite as good as at Results. There's a squat rack and a bench, some EZ-grip barbells and many dumbbells but otherwise, not much. It'd be nice if they had an extra squat rack and a power rack as well (it's a lot safer). Frankly they could do away with the Smith machine, but oh well. Overall it meets my workout needs, it's very close to where I live so I have no excuse not to go, and I've never had a bad encounter with any staff or gym-goer here. read more

Terrible experience. It's incredible how a gym that prides itself with being a family-run independent business close to the customers, and part of the neighborhood community, has taken advantage of one of his customer. Here is what happened. I requested to cancel my gym membership 7 days before the renewal date, as I had an emergency and would not have been able to use the gym on the following month. They told me they had a 10 days cancellation notice, that they would not exercise any flexibility, and that they would press on and charge me for the following month despite the fact that I was not going to be able to use the gym for a single day. I am extremely disappointed about this charge. When I first joined Mint a few months back, as a long-time Adams Morgan resident, I was really excited to become a member of a community of gym enthusiasts that support a local business. In particular, I trusted the flexibility and friendliness displayed on their advertising emails. You can only imagine my disappointment in seeing that as I faced an emergency, MINT did not display any sort of flexibility and common sense. My advice -- go to any other gym in the neighborhood and avoid MINT. When you need any flexibility, they will not be there for you. read more

I'm on a search for a gym here in D.C. and am trying trials at different places. This review is based on a five day trial. The MINT staff were friendly and helpful. They answered any questions I had and walked me through to show me the amenities. When something came up and I couldn't start my trial that day, they happily let me reschedule. The trial gave me access to free classes (I did three) and both gyms. All in all, I enjoyed the experience and thought they were professional and helpful. I took one star off just because it's a bit on the expensive side, but that's because you're paying for a full experience with nothing left out. If you're looking for a gym, definitely try the free trial. It's worth the five days and seeing what MINT offers. read more

Love this gym! I started as a member of the downtown location but now go to Dupont almost everyday. It's a great neighborhood gym, upscale yet down to earth, with a nice community vibe. Pros: Fantastic trainers high caliber and great variety of classes (spin, yoga, power playground/bootcamp, kickboxing, pilates, and more ...) Excellent amenities from a fully stacked locker room, to towels (gotta love the minty fresh cool towels), a sauna, mint and lemon water, and even a coffee station I go in the evening which I would consider peak time and never have to wait to use any machine Clean and welcoming Cons: Honestly none that I can think of except some of the popular classes do a get a bit crowded but that has never stopped me from going or getting a solid workout! read more

BEWARE -- MINT improperly took money out of my bank account, and has refused to return it. I have been a member of the MINT Dupont gym, and my membership level allows me to use the gym but not attend classes. The gym *CLOSED* in mid-March due to the pandemic. On March 27, MINT improperly removed the monthly fee from my bank account -- even though the gym is closed and is unavailable. I immediately contacted MINT and asked that they return the fee to my bank account. MINT refused, saying "we are not issuing any refunds." Times are tough, but that is no excuse for MINT to charge members gym fees when the gym is closed. MINT should not have removed money from my bank account, and it should return the money promptly. This is no way to treat members -- or anyone. read more

This gym has great amenities! Great classes, lots of machines & is generally not too busy for such a nice gym. Where things went sour for me was when I attempted to put my membership on hold and then later, cancel it. MINT advertises themselves as a gym that is very easy and flexible to work with month-to-month. They don't have a year-long contract like other gyms, which makes them appealing for someone looking to get more comfortable in the gym or with a more irregular work schedule. I originally wanted to put my membership on hold, as I wanted to try the gym for a month and then get back to it after some time. Let me say this simply--putting your membership on hold is not a quick fix. You can't do it over the phone, nor over their custom app. You need to reach out to accounting and request a form, sign it, and return it 30 days before your next payment. What this ends up meaning is that you sign up for two payments if you don't immediately request to put your membership on hold. In my case, I had requested this leave of absence too late, and instead of being refunded the $100 that I was charged (and had made no use of) I was credited for the month following the leave of absence. After many attempts and confusing responses, I became frustrated and requested to cancel my account. I still had to pay the $100 that I never used and was allowed approximately two weeks before my membership was void. I felt tricked and cheated when I was more or less trying to get up into the gym. tl;dr MINT advertises themselves as month-to-month gym with easy cancellation policy, which couldn't be further from the truth. I lost $100 of my money that I didn't really have to lose. read more

I used Mint for a few months. It started great, but the class offerings (the main reason I signed up) went downhill. I also hate the ellipticals they have, which is my typical machine cardio -- you can't program it for a good glute workout like you can on others. But my main complaint is how hard it is to cancel! I moved to San Francisco 4 months ago and I'm still being charged for a membership. I left a note and proof of my California job at the front desk with the cute guy at the front desk mid September and then moved in October. When I found out I was still being charged, I contacted Debra and she never bothered to respond (that's how she is -- not the best at her job). I checked my account this morning and I'm still being charged. While the front desk lady (Stacie) was really helpful on the phone, no one else in the company has bothered following up. When I left, the cancellation policy was 30 days or if moving giving proof that you were moving. That is what I did. (Most states require an easier procedure for when you're moving away and can no longer use the facilities). Now there is a general online form. As someone who is technically still a paying MINT member, it's ridiculous that they changed their policy without alerting their clients. There are far better gyms in DC. The biggest draw to MINT is the classes, but you can do that for far less on classpass. Save yourself the trouble and don't sign up in the first place. read more

Decided to try this gym, received a guest pass. First off, LA Fitness, Golds Gym ect..take note. When you offer clients a guest pass remember it is just that a "Guest Pass"! Let them try the gym, see if its a good fit and then discuss membership options. I appreciated that MINT got this concept right. I had no issues redeeming my pass that I signed up for online..no one wanted to give me a tour, talk about gym options, yada yada yada.. you know the drill. The facility is not that large. The cardio and free weight area seems a little congested. There is a spinning room and a Yoga studio. So I decided to try a yoga class. I really enjoyed it. The instructor was very engaging and provided one on one attention when needed. I'm interested in checking out their Adult Playground class, sounds like a fun workout. The restrooms were neat and clean and offered personal items in case you needed them. I doubt if I will join, as the location is just not convenient but a good occasional gym to attend when I decided to trek to the city. read more

I've used both the Dupont and downtown locations, and I much prefer this location. The women's locker room is always clean, neat, and tidy (which can't be said about the one downtown). The layout of the space is good, but some of the machines are packed in so tightly together that it feels like you can rub elbows with the person on the next treadmill. The gym experience was fine but I am very unhappy with the membership cancellation process. I cancelled my membership in March and yet charges continued through June. It has been over a month and still no reimbursement. I also received no phone calls - only slow email responses. This is not good customer service. read more

They encourage the use of plastic cups when people can just bring their own damn reusable water bottles. And if you absolutely must use a plastic cup at least recycle it....oh wait no recycling bins to be found. Also most sanitizing wipes can be composted.... Came here for the first time to try the Power Playground class. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the gym was - both equipment and facilities. Staff was also really nice and the instructor was knowledgable and attentive. Class was decent, and I would definitely like to come back and try the fitness equipment out! I wouldn't say the classes are equivalent to Elevate or Flywheel - but for a gym they are pretty good and offer a nice variety. read more

I haven't written a yelp review in years, good or bad, but signed up again just to warn other people. First want to preface my review by saying the trainers, instructors, and even front desk staff are all great. This review is only in regards to the Accounting Department and General Management. I signed up to Mint DC due to it's flexibility, the fact that it is a local business, and because there was a promo for one month free with a new membership. There was no link with details on additional requirements or exceptions on the promo and I asked about what the corporate full membership entailed. So I signed up. When I did get charged for January, I called the front desk who let me know I should reach out to GM to make an adjustment. I did that and heard nothing for over a week. I then called the front desk again (about 10x because no one ever answers the phone). This time I was told because I have a corporate discount I wasn't eligible for one month free. Please note that I save maybe $10 before taxes with my corporate discount and was never*** told the promo doesn't apply to me. I asked for a number to accounting and was told there isn't one (figures) but the front desk staff will send another email, to which I asked to be cc'd on. Another week goes by and more silence. It's only when I filled out a cancellation form and a stern/borderline nasty email about their poor practices, did the accountant claim that this "exception," as if they were doing me a kind favor, rather than meeting customer expectations, was just approved yesterday. She said she didn't see my email that was sent over the weekend...right. So I was told it was approved and in process - where is the receipt? What are the next steps? How many days will it take to see this refund on my credit card? No additional information was provided. I told her to please move forward with cancelling my membership because I'm not interested in MINT DC. For the high price you get a mediocre gym with shady practices. I have not received any follow up on my request for cancelling my membership or the one month refund. Based on these reviews it looks like MINT DC intentionally follows up late on the cancellation request, and keeps everything to email which can slow down the process, to ensure you get charged another month. I would never recommend this gym to anyone if you a) don't have money to waste, or b) are looking for a flexible gym. Save your money. read more

REVIEW FOR SPIN CLASS WITH NIKKI MUELLER: A transcon commuter between LA and DC and on the road every five minutes. To keep some semblance of sanity mentally and physically, I try to maintain a regular fitness routine. Spin class is not part of that routine, because I've found it incredibly frustrating to work so hard and not go anywhere :) Until there was Nikki Mueller. Yesterday, I took my third spin class with her. My general irritation of not actually moving has magically faded away. She is thoughtful, funny, and kicks your a** in the politest way possible. OH and her playlists make me smile every time. She pushes you hard enough so you feel a legitimate burn but is also incredibly cognizant of the health and wellness of everyone in the class. You have all ages, shapes, and sizes and it is just awesome to be in there. The 45-minute class flies by in what feels like 15 minutes and the sweat dripping off every bit of my body is a badge of honor I wear proudly. Nikki has converted me to a lover of the spin, and her class will now become a routine part of my trips to DC. Check out her class - you will be SO happy you did!! read more

I've been a member at Mint for six months, but I'm considering switching to the Anthony Bowen Y. I used the Y intensively on the three-day pass that they give you with the tour. Here's a fact-based comparison of the two gyms. You may not be interested in the Y, but I think the comparison is useful, since it also provides a lot of info about Mint. 1. Cost is a tie. Mint is $105 per month for the basic membership (no classes) with the initiation fee waived. The Y is $91 per month with an upfront fee of $130-150 that I'm told is never waived. So Mint is cheaper until you've been a member for 9-10 months. The Y is cheaper after that. 2. Pool: Y wins. Mint doesn't have one. 3. Weights. Mint wins. Y weight room is rather cramped and it wouldn't take many people to fill it up. Mint's is spacious and not used much. 4. Machines. Tie. Both have all of the standard machines, including lots of treadmills, stair climbers, rowing machines, etc. 5. Pull-up bar. Mint wins. I found this aspect of the Y annoying. A pull-up bar is a very basic piece of equipment that you shouldn't even have to think about. Not that Mint's bars are the greatest. The best one for me is placed over weight benches and often people are using the benches, which means you can't use the bar. One is on the front of a weight cage -- same problem. One usually has enormous pieces of equipment piled up so close to it that you can't use the bars. The weight-assisted bar is usually available. 6. Showers. Mint wins. Mint's have ugly plastic curtains, and twice I've gone to the showers to find that there's no hot water. But Mint has shampoo, conditioner and liquid body soap (plus free razors and deodorant), while the Y has pathetic soap dispensers like you'd find in a high-school gym or a second-rate gas station. 7. Sauna. Y wins. Mint's is not hot enough. Plus it's on a timer. You have to interrupt your workout to check the sauna to make sure it will be warmed up when you're ready to use it. Sometimes other users turn the sauna off after they're done and if you aren't checking every five minutes you can show up to a cold sauna. Obviously this review covers only the things important to me. I couldn't care less about classes or trainers or the Y's fancy rock climbing wall. Your mileage may vary. read more

If there is a perfect gym, this is it! I've been a member for nearly a year. The gym itself is amazingly clean. The equipment is pristine and plentiful. I've never had to wait on a machine or limit my time. Typically, I use free weights for weight training. Mint has such a wide variety of weight types that it makes my work out way more interesting. The lemon water and cold towels are icing on the cake. But more than the physical gym, my favorite part of my gym visits is the camaraderie with the staff. They are friendly and genuinely helpful. Absolutely worst gym membership cancellation experience I have ever had. I moved jobs and apartments in August 2011. I filed all membership cancellation paperwork with Mint, only to have them erroneously charge membership dues to my credit card for 5 months (at $125.00/mo, that is $625.00--no small chunk of change). When I brought this to their attention in December of last year, they assured me they would take care of it. It is now nearly May and despite numerous calls, emails, and visits to their establishment, I am still waiting for them to correct their error. Mint's membership fees are exorbitant given their inability to timely perform simple administrative tasks, like processing a refund. Save yourself the hassle. There are other gyms at comparable price points that run their businesses more responsibly. read more

I'm a HUGE fan of Mint. It has been my second home for more than three years (I basically live at the gym). The equipment (both weights and cardio) is great, management and staff are friendly and caring (so important!!), and the trainers are amazing. Special shoutout to trainer Mary Dorsch who is compassionate, super knowledgeable, and excellent to work with. I also love the classes - especially Barre, yoga, and spin. MINT is also clean, and has excellent showers - a big plus for early morning workouts before heading into work. Mint is unlike any other fitness facility I've ever belonged to- and I highly recommend it to all of my DC friends :D The community and service can't be beat! read more

For those of you who get off on going to an upscale gym and reporting back on Yelp about how you could lift the entire gym with your penis--bravo! But why? Mint is my gym. Has been since shortly after it opened and, if I had my way, would be forever. Even if I left DC, I would want to take it with me. When I read some of the negative reviews, and I know this sounds arrogant because, to each his/her own, but I just think that these are people who do not belong at Mint. That's all. Anyone who would just say - "Forget Mint, go to Golds" - belongs at Golds!!! This is not a judgement or a value call. Your gym is an extension of you. I don't even know why a Golds, L.A. Sports Club or Bally's lover would step foot into Mint in the first place. You can see, even from the street, that this place is different, starting with the wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows that let in natural light (really? you'd prefer the flourescent glare of those other gyms?). When you step in, there's the fresh air (I don't need my gym to smell of sweat just to remind me to work harder). There's the barely there music in the background (again, really? you'd rather the LOUD thumping music that overpowers whatever you're trying to hear in your own earphones?) Then there are the trainers --all with advanced degrees, and there's the fabulous juice bar and computer lounge with free wi-fi. MUST: Try the Acai Energy Bowl. The locker rooms feel like a spa. There's a sauna and steam room, and they connect to an ACTUAL spa--with massages, facials, etc. The classes focus on yoga and pilates, but have kick boxing, boot camp, spinning and some others. They do cap the membership so you don't have to waste time waiting for a machine. A nice touch: in a mini fridge are wet, cold towels infused with mint and eucalyptus--very refreshing on the face after a run. Does all of the above mean it's a place for girls? I don't know and I don't care. I am a girl. But there are plenty of guys there. And I'm not sure where all the dissing of the weights comes from. They have the machines, yes, but also the free weights. I see plenty of guys pumping there. I'd say it's a place for people who like to be in a fabulous environment, who care really only about how they feel being there, and about the workout they are getting -- not about who is watching them or whether people are "stuck up". (It's a gym, not a party! Worrying about how you look and who's looking at you. Hmmm...isn't that so....Gold's??). Mint is just that...mint. Top of the line. Great. A cut above. read more
