I happened to be at Ala Moana and was pleasantly surprised that the wonderful manager, Kelsey, who used to manage SoHA Keiki at the Kahala Mall location is at Ala Moana! She is so nice, friendly and personable! She is very helpful and knowledgeable! It's nice to see that the Ala Moana store has Keiki merchandise too: Hawaiian books, puzzles, beach towels and apparel! Also, I saw letters of the alphabet with cute Hawaiian items to personalize a picture frame! I love anything that can be personalized! Check out my pictures to see all the bright and beautiful merchandise! I bought a lot of birthday and Christmas presents for my friends and family here and on the mainland! The pricing is to be expected for imported goods so expect it to be a little expensive but not many shops in Hawaii carry what they have. The cashier is always friendly and sometimes they do have a cute dog inside. Unfortunately the setup can be difficult to walk through because they have tubs of merchandise on the floor and tables. Recently, Donna O. wrote a review and reminded me that I wanted to take a look... Yes...Donna was the motivator! Itadakimasu (in Japanese language) means "Let's eat" or "I gratefully receive this food". That's where the ceramic bowls and tea cups come in. There's a wide variety of sizes, styles, and patterns at this cozy shop. There's also women's jackets, baby clothing, and t-shirts. The rechargeable, portable fans, key covers, lucky red envelopes, figurines, tote bags, and luggage tags caught my eye. Everything was so cute! I had to leave quickly before I bought everything! Service was friendly and helpful! The shared parking lot (with Anyplace Lounge and Texas Fujiyama) is free! All items are kawaii! Go check it out!

Not sure of name of the building but it could be still called the Bunmeido building. If you're driving by, you can easy miss seeing the shop unless you're happen to be walking in the area or aware of the little shop through their attendance at the Douglas Trade Show at the NBC. You've passed the shop if you are at the gas station or the McDonald's on the right. If you're into Pokemon, Tokoro, Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma. and all those cute Japanese characters this store is for you. They have a lot Japanese dish-ware, houseware, pretty foldable reusable bags, plushy, mugs, kitchen ware, products made in Japan or from Japan. After finding out their store location, it took several attempts to finally go on the day they are open. One time they were on a buying trip & another time I went on a closed day Monday! Finally I got it right and made a quick stop to see what else they may have. I found a cute light weight canvas Rilakkuma tote bag with shoulder strap which I'm still debating if I should give it as a gift or keep it myself. Ha ha. They seem to have new and unique products at every trade show. If you're not able to attend the trade show, this cute little shop is worth checking out if you're looking for an Japanese/Asian gift for someone or perhaps for yourself! The Paperie is been in Kahala Mall and the place I go to browse regardless as this cute little shop is filled with so many cute items for everyone including our pets. I do love that they highlight the current event/holiday right when you walk in so that it filters out what you're most probably are looking for making it a great option to give someone or yourself as it was the Lunar New Year and finding various cards and Chinese horoscope is a great find though not easily keeping the whole set I didn't see the ones that I was looking for sadly. She said since I did not have a gift receipt or know my daughters girlfriends name so they could look it up, there was Nothing she could do!!! Really? I asked for the supervisor/manager! That's when Rita came to the counter, again asking me all those same questions that I didn't know! Why should it matter?? I have your merchandise, not marked down!! Plus, I showed her a 1/2 page advertisement that was in the newspaper stating "After Christmas SALE up to 70% off". I had come in on 12/26 and there were only signs of 50% off! When I asked, what was 70% off, the girl at counter said it was online! But she couldn't find anything online that was 70% off! So very misleading! FALSE ADVERTISING!! So when Rita said she had to call her manager, I told her to ask about the ad! Well, Rita returns and finally gives me a gift card for $35.80. No tax? I'm sure all my credits have included the tax!! Also, she didn't talk to anyone and just decided to do " the right thing" But claimed she did not give me a hard time! I really like this store and appreciate 2 sisters who went to Punahou started this business and SoHa Keiki but will have to think twice on patronizing them because of the bad customer service! Sticking with the theme the best in my opinion with adorable wooden boxes in the shapes of the kagami mochi stacks, wooden zodiac animal charms and what really really caught my eye was their fortune cookie coin purse which was so thoughtfully crafted to include a fortune in each one is so cool. The unique items they have is what I love and it was nice to meet the crafters behind it along with seeing all the items they carry on hand versus online is more my thing but now know some of their items since I've seen them will give their site a visit for more unique finds and to support this cute local small biz. Located on the ground level of the Mauka (mountain) side of the Mall, near Center Stage, the merchandise looks like it's all handcrafted, but probably is not. There were knitted plushies, small bags, and keyrings. I had to look at all of the bunnies - ones with orange hats, purple hats, strawberry bodies, and pink ones! I also saw hanging plants, pandas, Mchicken, Batman, Captain America, chickies, carrots, piggies, reindeer, Kuromi, and more! They even had jewelry and cute stickers! I was tempted by the buy 5, get one free offer, but I held back. The items are kinda pricey... but so KAWAII!!!

Cute things and more…read more.. Nanstar has a pop up in Windward Mall and so happy I got a chance to browse their inventory as they have just a little bit of everything. With two carts filled with various items from Sanrio, BT21, Pokémon and even Sakura themed gift sets. Mystery boxes that are hard to find, items from Japan and/or Korea it was very interesting shopping here. Not sure how long they'll be here though said they will be back at the end of March. One item I did get are a pack of stickers for only $5 with inspirational messages that will certainly brighten anyone's day. The ladies here are sweet and since some of the items they have here are difficult to find in these areas it's a welcome touch here in Windward Mall and hope to see them in late March. Thank you!

Nanstar is definitely a rare and unique store since it features craft items done by crafters! Most of the items in the store were lovingly made and assembled by folks with a rare gift of creativity. There's a good selection of items ranging from pillows and handbags to small figurines, all for very reasonable prices. Since it's a crafters' store, there's always something unique to see. Only caveat is if you like it, better pick it up before someone else does. My wife is 3 for 3 and every time she visits, she gets something. A fun store with many items that would make good presents for birthdays, Christmas, baby showers or any occasion. Great store and highly recommend stopping by!
