I had a custom made L-shaped bench... but needed comfy bench cushions to make it perfect. My mom didn't think she could handle the task- so I was referred by friends to Ming's by 2 friends who also needed bench cushions. I picked my own outdoor fabric at Joanns- however, the craftsmanship of the bench cushions has readily made our bench perfect. The staff was friendly, it took 2 weeks to make, & was a fair price- compared to Pottery Barn, etc. Definitely will return with future projects! read more

Previoiusly we took suede sofa cushions to be repacked with down and were very pleased so we took our cornice boxes to be recovered along with 5 yards of expensive fabric we had ordered from a furniture manufacturer. Came in today to retrieve the hardware used to supposedly source a replacement for the broke armchair buckle. Unbelievably it too was broken and the clueless front desk person had the nerve to say I could find them on the internet. First off she was wrong and even if true why didn't they order it - they broke it. All i got was "mistakes happen." See their other one star reviews for other "mistakes." I'd give the place SIX stars, but five is the limit. What a find! I seldom write a Yelp review, but in this case, I felt compelled to give the place the praise it so richly deserves. We had two kitchen rolling chairs with torn seats. We had thought about buying a new kitchen table and chair set at $1,200 and up, but we could not find one as good as our present set. We ASSUMED it would cost "too much" to repair. Wrong! They replaced the two torn seats with near-identical material (sun fading made an exact match impossible), and the TOTAL cost was (drum-roll) $95. No, not per chair -- the total for TWO chairs. Workmanship was top drawer. It took over a week for them to do the work -- as we had been told in advance. They called when they were ready. It's a busy little hole-in-the-wall operation, with VERY helpful staff. Parking is no problem. Don't be put off by outward appearances. It looks like a dive from the outside. It ain't. If you want high overhead and high prices, try somewhere else. We'll be sending them some more work shortly -- more difficult wicker chair repair. But we're confident the work will meet or exceed our expectations. Give Ming's a try. read more

I have a Chevy Tahoe and the middle console was coming apart badly enough I'd get scratch when I rested my forearm on it. I admit I neglected it for many years, and when I made previous attempts it was not in my budget. Well I thought all hope was lost until I discovered Ming's upholstery. They assured me over the phone they could replace it, but I was skeptical. I dropped it off on Monday and had it back a few days later. Yay!! They have friendly staff, and excellent craftsmanship. I have been using Ming's for at least 18 years. He has reupholstered many of our personal items and we have always been extremely satisfied. Last week Ming went above and beyond for us. We have a dental office and needed 8 chairs recovered and two custom made benches he made for us 10 years ago. (which are still holding up great by the way) We were closed on a friday, so we dropped everything off the night before, and he must have worked all night, because we picked up the chairs and benches the next day and had them back in the dental office for our patients on Saturday . They're amazingly irresponsible. I left my couch cushions there for two weeks and they completely forgot about it. They got no record, no receipt, no idea whatsoever where they were. The cushions were undone when I came to collect them. Totally a waste of time. They didn't even show adequate sorry attitude or at least offer something to compensate for their mistake. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Overpriced and way underdeliver. They have the most expensive upholstery and really put off placing orders. They take forever, that's why you might come upon your furniture outside with a homeless person on your chair or dogs peeing on it - they don't have enough room in the place. You may also ask to see it they may have some story about it being in a storage unit - I think they send it to Mexico to get done. There is a huge language barrier and the place is a chaotic mess. Very disappointed in the chair of my husband's I found outside. It's in a dodgy parking lot - Joanne's has had an armed robbery and there place was broken into several times the owner told me. There are so many clean places to go that will stay within their deadline they set. This place just lets time come and go - they really screwed up drapes that they started from scratch - I made the measurements perfectly clear and they got it wrong but didn't want to use more material, so I got the remade screwed up drapes with no discount well past the day they were supposed to be done for my holiday dinner. read more

The quote from Ming's Upholstery was very competitive and much lower than the other Upholstery shop in Poway. They accommodated my schedule and let me in the shop the day that I requested, dropped the car in the morning and was ready in the afternoon. The 2 employees that worked on my car were very professional and tried so hard that the top looked perfect and the results were outstanding. Years ago I took in my beautiful wing back chair to be reupholstered at Mings at the Poway location. I brought in my own upholstery fabric because I found exactly what I wanted at an upholstery store. It had a delicate acorns and oak leaves English country pattern on olive and cream fabric made by a well known company. I bought ample material so there wouldn't be a shortage. I asked Ming if he could build me an ottoman with a flip top for storage and on casters to go with the chair. He was confident they could fill my order. I was really pleased with the finished product. I used the chair for years and was glad I had the ottoman made to go with it. I communicated what I wanted and Ming's nailed it! I wished I had bought a bright green, fuchsia or other raw silk for the interior of the ottoman to give it an interesting contrast, because they used a plainer material which was serviceable but not anything special. But that was my oversight for not discussing in advance. It's been about 14 years and I'm considering getting it reupholstered once again, as I'm ready for a change and have the seat pillow refilled to give it more loft. Mings treated me well years ago and I would definitely use them again. They also were reasonably priced as well. I'm looking forward to consulting with them again soon and I hope they haven't radically changed their standards or prices. read more

The worst experience ever!!!!!! long story short.....i left my two cushions that needed upholstery and 6 weeks later they were not done. They said it would take 3 weeks, i even called days before i picked them up to see if they were ready and they assured me that they would be ready by the time id pick them up. I am not an employee nor a family member, and I too agree this is a fantastic upholstery store! Recently we were not having luck finding a boat place that could re-upholster our ski boat in a timely fashion. We were getting down to the wire before a ski trip and were a bit frustrated... when I happened to remember Mings Upholstery. (We had previously used them to re-upholster a "well loved" stool). We had no idea if Ming had ever upholstered boats before, so we took our boat to the shop and were please to find out that he is very experienced in doing boat upholstery. Yea! Now a week and half later, we have our little old boat looking awesome with BEAUTIFUL new upholstery. He even went the extra mile and added lots of new padding, and new carpet to the engine cover. MING'S UPHOLSTERY is located on one of the main streets in Poway, CA, namely, Poway Road. I became educated on Poway Road because this is the route that takes you to: (1) Iron Mountain; (2) Mount Woodson; (3) Julian; (4) Volcan Mountain; and (5) Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Anyway, during a recent journey (Oct. 20, 2018) to Joshua Tree Nat'l. Park, what happened is that I got nearly a dozen owees from the pointy tips of knee-level desert plants. I think that they were yuccas. One of the owees turned into an infection (red-colored patch of skin the size of a quarter) that lasted two weeks. And so, I decided that I needed to get a set of leather chaps, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. I considered going to a fabric store, an upholstery store, or to Goodwill (where I could get a 2nd-hand leather jacket and cut out strips of leather). And so, as it turned out, during today's trip to Iron Mountain (Nov. 3, 2018), I noticed a sign reading, "UPHOLSTERY," while driving eastwards on Poway Road. Four hours later, after my hike, I stopped at Ming's Upholstery, and was surprised to see that Ming's was devoted totally to leather and to other types of fabric that could be used to cover furniture. The salesperson devoted herself, for a couple of minutes, to making sure that I got exactly what was needed. Another salesperson at the store said, "We only have thin leather, not thick leather." That didn't matter to me, because I knew that even thin leather would be able to defend me from the sharp tips of yucca plant leaves. And before I knew it, the first salesperson was using scissors to cut out a rectangle of brown leather, about 15 inches by 30 inches. I knew right away that this would be perfect for me, and that I could cut out two squares and fasten them to the legs of my blue jeans, extending from just above the knees to the ankles. It was such a relief to me that I was finally able to buy the needed leather sheet that I exclaimed, "I can imagine that I'm Clint Eastwood while wearing my home-made leather chaps, as I tromp around in the desert." As a parting word, I told the salesperson that Ming's Upholstery would be a great place to shop, for any person who goes to Michael's in order to buy arts'n'crafts supplies.
