Ordered take out. Delivery was reasonable. Ordered 3 orders of fried chicken. 1 with French fries. 1 with macaroni and cheese. And the last with mashed potatoes. French fries were crispy even being delivered. The mashed potatoes are a filling side that taste like mashed potatoes should. Plus you can tell they add a hint of garlic to it. They do not skimp on this portion. The macaroni and cheese was good but nothing amazing. The fried chicken was good. Light bbq sauce was asked to be added to the chicken and unfortunately they turned them all into bbq chicken. *know their bbq sauce has a slight spicy kick to it *. I appreciated that they tried to fix a problem beforehand because we requested 2 with veg and 1 plantains. apparently they were out of veg so they sent extra plantain to accommodate. My experience with Mingles was not the greatest. I called in an order on a Friday night for Jerk Salmon, rice and peas, and steamed vegetables. I was told they were out of rice and peas and opted for white rice instead. I get to the restaurant to pay for my order and as I'm waiting I watched the woman pack 2 full containers of rice and peas for another guest. Strike #1. It says on the website that salmon is cooked fresh but I watched the chef take the precooked salmon and place it on the grill for ~3 minutes before boxing it up. Strike #2. I get home to realize there's no steamed vegetables in my box, just a piece of salmon on a bed of rice. Strike #3. I was never told they were out of steamed vegetables or offered another option. Overall I am disappointed in my experience and probably won't be back. ALSO! They promote a $5 off your first order when you download the app yet there is no coupon code and I did not receive an email or anything after signing up. I had a great time at Mingles Lounge one Thursday night at karaoke. I ordered wings and the fried whiting. My aunt got the oxtails. The food was delicious. The fish are small whole whiting. I've never had whiting like that. It was so good I had to come by the take out spot before leaving town. Brought my sister with me. The location is clean and modern. The service was friendly as well. Nothing extra but definitely better than most places in New York. We both ordered the fish. She also ordered the oxtails. I was so disappointed with the fish...Now I've been raving about this crispy fish to my husband, my sister and my mom. I think when you take it to go something happens. There are peppers on top so the juice from the peppers along with the closure of the paper simulates a steaming effect.....the fish was soggy. If I had not had it previously I would have given 2 stars. But because I know how good this fish is I only took one star off. There should be a sign up urging people to eat the fish immediately. So far I've had Oxtail, Curry Goat, Shrimp Po Boy (they serve it on coco bread and the shrimp are big, plump, and well seasoned ), Mac & Chz, (I don't usually like West Indian Mac... parents are Jamaican and can COOK so no disrespect lol but theirs is bomb, taste like southern Mac) Escovitch Fish, carrot rummy cake & the red velvet, jack Daniel wings (didn't care for the flavor) I even had their mash...I NEVER buy mash from a restaurant, and that was delicious as well, even w/o gravy. Listen, this place is SOLID. I would give 10 Stars if I could. It's so clean & bright in there too. Customer service is always great even when they're busy. I wish more people would put 1,2...or 5 dollars in the tip jar, even though it's not a dine in restaurant, these ppl are still working hard to "SERVE" us. My mom and I wet craving Jamaican food and discovered Mingles on Uber Eats. I ordered the jerk shrimp with rice and peas. It was delicious! It was the prefect amount of spice. My mom ordered the curry chicken and she said it was delicious as well. The food was still hot when we received it. The only issue was we had trouble ordering via Uber eats. The app froze multiple times and made the process more difficult. Not sure if Mingles can reach out to them about that. If the food wasn't so pricey, I'd probably order from Mingles at least twice a week. The next items I want to try are the salmon, curry shrimp, rasta pasta, and rummy carrot cake. The rice and peas is so good that I don't need any gravy. I usually order it with curry chicken or sweet and sour chicken. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this place, but it was surprisingly good. The oxtail, brown stewed chicken, and rice and peas were solid. The IRIE pasta was OK....it has a creamy sauce with a little bit of jerk flavor; well seasoned and probably a safe choice for kids who are not overly sensitive to spice. But the standouts were the steamed snapper and the curry goat. If you're from the area and are familiar with the steamed snapper they used to have at Country Kitchen down the road (it's not there anymore), it's the closest to what they served there. I got it with steamed veggies, but I wished I got it with rice so it could soak up all of the glorious flavor of the broth that is created by steaming the fish with the pumpkin and okra, etc. The snapper tasted fresh and we had to race our kiddo who devoured every piece I put on her plate. The curry goat is the closest to what I had in Jamaica, except it doesn't burn a whole in your stomach. It is sufficiently spiced but not overpowering and the gravy is thick. Be careful if you are eating this at home because the curry will stain everything. I love that I can order ahead through GrubHub...especially since the fish takes 20 mins. We'll be back. read more
