Dim sum good. Staff and service appalling.
Our order took a very long time to arrive - people who arrived after us were served before us - and was lukewarm when we got it. We were not given soy sauce, chopsticks, anything. We had to repeatedly ask and eventually resorted to getting up and taking it from the shelf ourselves. One man who I would guess was the owner or manager was actively rude. "What?" "Huh?" "Is that all?!" he says. I have taken into account that he was not speaking his native language - my husband who was with me at the time is in fact from Japan and he was also appalled and infuriated with this man.
When we needed the staff it was close to impossible to attract their attention. They would sail by as if dreaming. But when it was time to eat our meal they would actually not leave us alone. They fussed and pawed over our baby, touching her face and poking her; advising us it was time to cut her (newly cut) nails and other generally inappropriate comments and behaviour. I felt harassed to the point of having to whisper in Japanese to my husband to ask them to leave us in peace.
Approaching the end of the meal, one of the waiters who had a distinct strong Dublin accent and fluent English, whom we had met before and had recognised us on arrival, came and started removing plates from the table before we had finished, asking "How are we getting on, girls?" To say my husband was bemused at being addressed in this manner is an understatement. I pointed out his error and he tried to pretend he hadn't said it.
To top the evening off, there was a 10% service charge on top of the bill for this kind of treatment. I only found this out after my husband had already paid. If I had been the one at the till I would have refused that charge.
It's a pity because their dim sum is great. But I will not be going back there to be treated in that manner again. read more
