Came here on a Wednesday lunch to try this Cantonese style Chinese restaurant. The restaurant has a main menu of classic Cantonese dishes and a dim sum menu. I chose to focus on the dim sum options. Ricerolls with beef: rice rolls were slightly tougher than expected, but had good smoothness. Beef seemed to have been cooked with water chestnut dices, had a bit of refreshing crispy mouthfeel. Shiu Mai: pork stuffing was a bit too fat and fluffy, though the shrimp tasted bouncy and nice. Pork ribs and chicken feet steamed rice: a double whammy of two classic dim sum items with rice. Seasoning was good, though again I wish the pork ribs were leaner. Beef meatball with sliced bean curd: big, bouncy, seasoning was perfect. best thing about this dish, the waitress knew to serve it with Worcestershire Sauce, the classic "fusion" style of having it. Overall: 4-4.5 stars. Some improvements would make it much more desirable, but it is a good place to try out Cantonese style dim sum. read more

One genre of food, that I've found is always decent no matter where you travel in the world is Chinese. So while in Ireland, my wife was craving dim sum. I found this spot and they actually served solid dim sum. It's small, and they have a few large tables, so if you group is small, you might have to wait. We waited about 15 minutes before getting seated. We ordered right away and the dishes came out pretty quickly. The stars of the meal was the pork congee and the bbq pork steamed buns. The ribs were good and the shrimp/turnip dish was tasty. The default dumplings was not good to me though. They tasted frozen. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside but I was hungry and just needed something fast & comforting. I got the Dragon Fried Rice, which comes in a very generous portion. It was fried rice with diced BBQ pork and roast pork. The flavors were on point and I was pleasantly surprised that it had a nice spice to it. "Good World" has got to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dublin! Four of us had a 3-course meal for €61, and it was fabulous! - Vietnamese Spring Rolls - Sweat and Sour Pork Hong Kong style - Kung Po Chicken (w cashews). - BBQ Duck with shrimp stuffing - Steamed rice ... and their hot Black Tea is excellent... ...a high-class moderately priced clean restaurant with excellent service... definitely a 5-Star experience! read more

There's dimsum! Yes! You heard me! It's not as terrible as you'd expect of Dublin either (sorry!). They've got most of the usual items you'd look for shumai, xiajiao, chicken feet, turnip cake, etc - and our total bill came out to be lower than we expected (and man we were full). I'm actually pretty happy. If you're like me and you miss your dim sum and just need something to remind you of home, come here! Good World will do the trick. To be honest I've never been a big fan of Chinese food, probably because of one too many greasy take-outs. And then a friend dragged me to the Good World restaurant- I won't say I've completely changed my mind but I did like the dinner here. We went for the early bird menu and I had spring rolls for starters, Chow Mein and banana fritters as dessert- all for 17.50 Euro!!!- and the food was delicious. The spring rolls were maybe a bit too greasy but that's really the worst I can say about the food. Looking for Dim Sum in Dublin, I received a recommendation for this place on Georges St. Looking at the menus posted outside the restaurant, I started to have second guesses about this place actually having dim sum as it is not well highlighted (I think they highlight these 2 portion and three portion lunch and dinners instead). I decided to proceed anyway and to my delight, when i sat down and opened the menu, the first two pages are exclusively dim sum! This place is a nice, authentic Chinese dining experience and it is not surprising why this place really fills up at lunch time. There was a wait for tables despite the numerous dining options around this area. I ordered way to much dim sum which always seems to happen every time I go to a dim sum restaurant. It is way to easy with each set of 3-4 pieces costing only 3-4 Euro. It was not difficult to finish every last piece though (dumplings, rolls, buns). This place makes incredible dim sum and they have most options you could desire. My one complaint is that they didn't seem to really have dumpling sauce. Every other time I have ever had dim sum, it is served with a dumpling sauce. To their credit, they did give us soy sauce and a sauce platter with spicy sauce, mayo type sauce and garlic sauce, but just not the same as I had experienced in the past. The dim sum was great without the sauce anyway. Maybe my past experiences of dumpling sauce with dim sum was the "Americanized version". read more

This is my favourite Chinese restaurant! The reason: the most delicious dim sum ever! This place is full of Chinese people which is a great sign and they all know the best place to go for dim sum in Dublin ! If you've never been here before they will automatically give you a standard green menu which has the normal european Chinese dishes we're all used to; curry, sweet and sour, green pepper and black bean sauce etc. Ask for the dim sum menu and try at least one dish! if you're prepared to order solely from the dim sum menu then it works out very reasonable if you go with one or more person. The more the better! I'd recommend the glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf, char Sui bun or char Sui puff and if you like fish then the prawn dumpling is a must have (It's delicious and I get it each time I'm there). The chinese bok choi vegetables with ginger and garlic are lovely too. For the more adventurous of you; try any cheung fun dish (prawn is my favourite) and the yam croquette! ! The dim sum will be served with Chinese green tea which compliments it perfectly. At first I found the staff to be not overly friendly but certainly not rude. Since becoming a regular i always get a big smile and a friendly welcome and the staff are engaging and attentive. Its gotten to the point where i really feel like they go that extra mile to make a fuss of me. If they get to know you then they are very friendly and they remember dishes you like and whether you like to eat from a bowl with chopsticks of from a plate with a knife and fork! So to summarise, if you've never been then go with an open mind and an appetite! I promise that you'll leave with a big smile and a full and happy tummy! read more

We came in a bit later (around 10pm) but the restaurant said it closed at 11pm. However, once we sat down we were rushed and told the kitchen was about to close and the servers were leaving. I don't really like to be rushed while eating, so it made for an unpleasant experience. Regarding the food, it was pretty good. We got beef lo mein and the chicken with black bean sauce. The food was very flavorful and authentic. The chicken dish was recommended by the server. It was a good meal, but just felt uncomfortable being rushed. If we had known they were closing so early we would have went to another restaurant. Also, the price is a bit expensive, especially for Chinese food. We spent about €30 for 2 dishes. read more

We went there for lunch today and had some of the best dim sum of my life. We ordered ha gau, long shrimp noodles, and beef shumai, and loved every bite. Personally, this was a terrible experience. I was branded as a westerner as soon as I walked in the door, given a table with different setting and a different menu. However I did not notice this until after I ordered as they had just opened for lunch. A group of men came in and got the same treatment as I did but the two Chinese couples who came soon after were greeted much more warmly than us outsiders and given a more extensive menu. My starter, a spring roll, arrived, from a waiter who didn't bother to look at me as I said thank you. While it was nice and crispy it was tasteless and oily. The main, sweet and sour chicken, arrived with the same treatment from the waiter. This was much more pleasant with a good portion size. The dessert, a fruit salad, was terrible. Soggy bland fruit obviously out of a can with whipped cream also from a package. Maybe I was simply not "in the know" about something as all other reviews I saw gave 5 stars but for me it was a real disappointment. read more

When I was a student I worked and as a result had the luxury of having a little extra cash to splash about (God do I wish I had saved it now!). The result of the splashing power was me being a regular in what was at the time one of the finest Chinese restaurants in the city - The Good World; the memory of those meals sends a thrill up my spine, I can remember the smells, the atmosphere, the immaculately laid tables, the Churchill Shiraz Cabernet. We revisited recently, eager to once again breathe in the smells and feelings of yesteryear, things have however changed.... The ownership has apparently changed since my regular visits and the result is a cheaper version of the eatery I once knew. It is a cheaper faster version, we ordered our meals and they were on the table before the waiter had finished writing on the pad... granted we were hungry and therefore grateful but this is not the fine dining experience we had hoped for. The Good World is still a grand spot to eat, but not a great spot, its just a case of managing your expectations I guess. read more

Was in yesterday evening for a leisurely celebration of France being beaten....went for the set menu option - 3 courses for 2 plus bottle of house white/red for €50.....not a bad deal. Runs Mon-Thur from 5pm onwards. We found the set menu to be pretty good, with all the Irish favourites included, with plenty of pork, chicken, beef, veg and prawn options available. The starters and mains were delicious, piping hot and plentiful to say the least! Our waiter was very friendly and checked on us (very discreetly) several times. The desserts were very poor however, with the fruit salad sadly lacking in all other fruits besides apple... But the wine, service and price would entice me to return again! Food is pretty good, and really your only option but legit Chinese in the area. They even serve dim sum. I ordered roasted duck and a few dim sum dishes. Only complaint is they charge for white rice. I ordered a half duck and when the server brought it out, I asked for white rice. She was puzzled and then told me, it does not come with it to insinuate it would be extra. I've traveled to many states and to a few countries and I always week out Asian restaurants. It was bizarre that rice would not come with the duck. So I should eat this salty duck straight? Sorry but typical Chinese restaurant names use boring pseudo words such as: Jade, Dragon, Palace, Lucky, Garden, No. 1, Fortune, Golden,Peking, ect. It's like day and night, a non-speaking English person can easily pin point a Chinese restaurant due to the lameness of the name. But Good World? Tricky, very tricky indeed, I wouldn't have guessed it was a Chinese Restaurant at first glance. While I have yet to visit China, but the food is as authentic as it can get (that's if you are given the Chinese menu). I'm Asian, so it's an automatic default to give it to me. Well - I have mix feeling when it comes to this restaurant. I must admit, they have some of the best spring rolls you can ever get around, and I mean that. Also, their dumplings are really well prepared, fragranced and tasty. However, when it comes to the main courses and especially the deserts, this is a quite disappointing. The staff is always nice and smiley which is always a plus - as I always say, it doesn't cost a thing to smile. The premises are not really impressive; that may sound weird, but I often look at how well maintained the toilets are to make myself an idea of how the kitchen is. It is always a good indicator - an establishment that can keep its toilets tidy usually keeps tidy all the rest. Well, I can tell you that the bathrooms in these premises are not of the highest standards... you now get my conclusion about the rest. So, in a nutshell, 1 star for the staff, 1 star for the spring rolls, 1 star for the dumplings = 3 stars. My recommendation: go for Vietnamese spring roll, prawns spring rolls, crispy spring roll, scallop dumpling, prawns dumplings, 1 egg fried rice, 1 boil rice, the whole for 2 people. Trust me, this will be more than enough and you will get, I think, the best of what they can offer. read more

Sign of a good Chinese Restaurant? Actual menus in Chinese and Chinese people eating in the place and Good World has both. I have been coming here since I was a kid and will keep going back for as long as it is around. The staff are great and friendly. The food is delicious and authentic and the atmosphere is great if you have a big group of people! Nice big round tables, excellent for groups, and my family who seem to order so much food and there is always room on the table for all the plates! I love the sweet and sour chicken here, not in batter and the BBQ spare ribs are really sticky and meaty! And they finish the meal off lovely by serving chrysanthemum tea in little china cups! Lunch here isn't bad at all. I tried the main menu and a lot of original Chinese dishes . Also street parking in Dublin is as difficult as any other city, so park lond term in a public garage and pay to avoid ticketing on the street. I've been going to them for years, practically since a kid. Love the food, portion seem to have dropped down in size. Some of the new waiters are very snobby and unfriendly. You don't really feel welcome sometimes because of their lack of hospitality. The tallest male waiter is the worse. Tells you off when his own staff took wrong order. Highly doubt I'd ever bother stepping foot back in. Plenty of other places with better food and ESPECIALLY better kind services. read more

After four years of living outside of California, it's nice to be in a city with Chinese food again. Good World is smaller than it seems on the outside but the service was extremely friendly. It's the kind of place where they dish the food onto your plate before leaving the table. A nice touch. We had a bean curd roll appetizer off the dim sum menu as a starter. For dinner I had the king prawns with cashews, which was a pretty typical dish. The fried rice was really fluffy and eggy and perfect. What I will rave about is the hot sauce that came with the appetizer--if you like your Chinese food spicy, this hot chili oil is incredible. It must be homemade as the taste is different than the grocery store variety and the heat is stronger too. I wish I could bottle it and take some home! Delish--I poured it over everything on my plate and asked for extra, which they gave me with no charge. Seriously I'll be back just for the hot chili oil. Hubs had a sesame encrusted duck entree. I am a vegetarian and I dont eat meat but I also am a cheating vegetarian and that little piece of duck was so good. SO GOOD! Don't be fooled by the English-language menu: go straight for the good stuff and ask for the Chinese one! Which, by the way, still has enough English for the adventurous diner to comprehend and order a great meal from. The Peking Duck - a whole bird, deep fried, doused in a sweet-soy sauce and tossed with peanuts - was out of this world and definitely large enough for two people to share. We also had some dim sum items which were very respectable. As an American traveling in Ireland I definitely did not expect to find amazing Chinese food in Dublin, but there it was. Absolutely disgusted!! I work two part time jobs and as anyone in my position might agree. It's damn hard to find anytime off, never mind a weekend. I scheduled Friday & Saturday off (one day from each job) and well in advance for my wife's birthday (Although in work for Sunday). I booked two weeks in advance with "Good World" (Witnessed booking) Heading in, relaxed, looking forward, "all dressed up", car left at home, return tickets for the train, bring on a good night. You have to know what to order here. I'd definitely go back and try it again with different menu choices. I was outvoted by the people at my table who were looking for Americanized Chinese food...so what could I do. I'm not picky. The starters were the best part -- dumpings and aromatic duck. The duck pancakes are a DON'T MISS. I haven't been able to find good ones where I live in the United States, so having these here was a real treat. Finding the right balance of the shredded duck between crispy skin, slivers of fat and tender duck meat is hard to achieve. This duck was pretty much perfect. And the pancakes were thin but not tough. I'd go back here just to eat these again. Mistakenly, we chose chicken & cashew stir fry and beef curry as our mains. Blah. Very bland and unexciting. I also hate curries that just have dissolved curry powder in them as flavour. It seems that if you know a bit about good Chinese food and feel adventurous with the menu, this place would be better.
