Back row: egusi and fufu; front row: pepper soup and jollof rice

This was my first time trying West African cuisine so I may be a little biased in my review, but this food was AMAZING! I read a novel a little while ago that was set in Nigeria and the descriptions of the dishes made me find the nearest West African restaurant to try these dishes for myself. I arrived with hopes of ordering a Ghanian dish that came highly recommended by my West African friends called "Palm nut soup", but unfortunately the restaurant was out of this dish when I went. So instead I ordered a Nigerian staple, Pepper soup... It did not disappoint! I'm a big soup person anyway, so the rich and savory broth and huge pieces of meat immediately won me over. I also added some of the hot sauce that the waitress gave us for an extra kick. As a side, I ordered jollof rice. SO GOOD. I'm actually upset that I've waited this long to experience the deliciousness that it is. To top off my experience, the waitress was so nice and helpful. As it was our first experience, she took the time to make suggestions and answered any questions we had. I have zero complaints about this place and am already planning my next visit!

This is a warning! The food is less than mediocre. I've been to several African restaurants in the Atlanta area and this is by far the worst! My boyfriend ordered the assorted meat with jollof rice and we were disgusted with what came out.The assorted meat isn't assorted, the Jollof is ketchup and rice mixed, absolutely no taste! I ordered the cassava leaf and it was simply OKAY. Nothing impressing about the taste of it. I've had cassava leaf plenty of times to know what I had was a watered down version of it. If you're drunk and or just desperate to eat anything, then this is your place. Those of us that value what we consume and value our taste buds would never been seen eating that this establishment. I won't be coming back until they've hired a worthy African chef.

    Egusi & Pounded Yam

This place I walked in the service was horrible. The server was rude. And didn't have the full menu available. They had NETS EVERYWHERE! Not pleasant.. the wine was okay by far the best thing I had here. I got egusi it was definitely one of the worst I've ever tasted. Tasted like tomatoes paste. The food was Luke warm... the fufu cold. It was a small amount as well. I wouldn't refer anyone to this place.

I guess they increased prices with inflation?

The waitress ended up being very nice but they didn't have a lot of menu items, probably almost half the menu. It was a Saturday, about 4pm. They were showing Nigerian soccer on the tv screens so that might be a plus. They do have beer and wine.

I had to apologize to my husband for taking him here. I could write a book about this but I am not in the mood. The place was clean and the waiter was very nice but the food wasn't great or worth anything! The food wasn't worth going again.I'm just saying. This Mina place had red pepper stew that was water with no taste and jollof was dry. The fish had its own personality. I'm just saying. If you want authentic food that is seasoned correctly google "African grill" it is walking distance from this place and they have very good food that even African celebs youll find there chopping suya.

Stinky okro soup , I had it so many times , but these past month I have to pray for my order to come out properly.

Now, here is where the rating was impacted! I asked what type of fish it was before making a selection. The staff responded. "Catfish." Coo! Ultimately, it was NOT catfish. I would attribute the texture and how it fried to being along the lines of a Swai or similar fish. The only thing that saved it was the light cornmeal batter, which was good. Not much seasoning, so hot sauce was needed. Sides: Collard greens - good (per my hubs) Macaroni and cheese - standard/good (per my hubs) Deviled eggs - good Broccoli cheese casserole - PASS (there was some sort of brown crumble between the layer of cheese and the actual casserole and it was not needed and wasn't good! Hard, but honest opinion. Also, there were large mushrooms in the casserole (no, it wasn't from a mushroom soup), so beware if you're not a mushroom eater -- I don't mind. Mashed potatoes - good and creamy (Baby girl did no gravy, so we have no thoughts on that!) Fried okra - good (my fav of the sides for the day). We came before 11:30 AM and that proved to be ideal. By the time we left (12:15), it was packed tighter than a can of sardines! Ambiance -- ehhh. It's typical cafeteria vibes. No music. Basic decor.

It's a very simple walk up/take out spot with one monitor that is the menu and where you place your order. I love how you can see straight through the kitchen.... The man came towards the counter and let me know about an item that said it was sold out was actually being prepared and back on the menu! So many options so I decided to get enough food for a couple days... the Mardi Gras pasta was awesome ! Absolutely packed into my container and just tasty as hell! My red beans and rice scared me at first .. ( all I seen was white rice in a container) all the goodness was under the rice!! I mixed it up and added a bit of hot sauce and it was ! Now the jambalaya egg roll is absolutely delicious!! Crispy but flaky egg roll packed COMPLETELY with its ingredients!! My fried okra was good and served its purpose.. collards had way too much meat in them ... but tasty and on point . They have fresh & fried options. Here are pics of our meals. All left with to-go's. Note, meals are served in to-go containers, not actual plates. The music is fun but WAY WAY WAY too loud. Heads up. I'd truly go back if in town. What an unexpected treat for dad's birthday. He was HAPPY!
