I would recommend this place for middle-eastern food. The menu offerings are sufficient and nearly everything that I have tried is excellent, the one exception being the tabbouleh salad, which is overloaded with parsley. The staff, except for the occasional student worker, is all middle-eastern which adds to the atmosphere, and they are super friendly. Plus you get a large amount of food for the price. There is also an attached coffee shop (Lori's) which serves soup, coffee and tea. As this place mainly serves students from the U their days and hours of operation are limited, and street parking, when you can find it, has a one hour limit, though that is sufficient for dining (there is also a small lot behind the restaurant for parking). In terms of quality and price- Mim's is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in the Twin Cities. The food is always fresh, tasty and authentic. I am Palestinian and when I bite into one of their delicious falafel sandwiches I am transported back to Jerusalem. Everything from the hummus to the tabbouleh to the kebabs are perfect...My only criticism is I wish they were open later and on the weekends! There is parking in the back of the building and on the streets. I would describe the atmosphere as "casual" and the decor is basic. But they have a nice patio (which is great in the summer)... This is the place where you get it all. Food is superb. No one, and I say NO ONE, can make better falafel than MIMS. I am still ordering the raw falafel from MIMS since I moved to the east coast years ago. Hummus and shawerma are as authentic as they get. Let alone the fact that their middle eastern food is unbeatable, burgers are awesome, and the dishes they makes are flavorful. I absolutely miss having my food in the outdoor seating area. Lories coffee shop is next door, and is run by the same people. The coffee is always fresh and tasty. And I know for a fact they buy nothing but quality beans. Years ago the 100-year old building looked run down. The ongoing construction has made the neighborhood nicer. The guys are very hardworking and friendly. read more

I'm giving Mim's 5 stars. But be aware that 5 stars is in the field of "functional middle eastern fast food" and does not reduce point total for ambiance. As grad student at the Saint Paul campus of the U -- I just don't know how I'd survive without Mim's. The falafel sandwiches are great. Sure once in a while I get an A+++ and once in a while it is more like a B-. I'm glad they have traded fancy ambiance for ultra-functional, totally reasonably-priced food. The campus student center (saint paul) is truly the worst place to get food. Ever. Mim's could raise prices and take advantage of their massive monopoly on Saint Paul campus students, but the don't. And we love them for that. The burgers are good too. I haven't loved the shwarma. I like the falafel enough that I rarely venture anymore. So, I heartily recommend Mim's. I haven't tested many falafels (recall, I am already eating 1-3 per week at Mim's, so falafel is low on my weekend list). But I'm pretty sure these are some of the best in the cities. read more

I came here for lunch by myself with the intention of studying for awhile. There is a small parking lot in the back. It is next to Lori's cafe, and the door situation is a little confusing because none of them are labeled. I was expecting a "cafe" with corner tables and electrical plugs. But it was definitely more like a casual lunch kinda space. It was pretty loud and all of the tables were sprinkled with bits of uneaten food from previous diners. I also couldn't find a single plug. I ordered the falafel platter, which was described online as being served on a bed of lettuce, but the "bed" was more like a stingy sprinkle of lettuce. I didn't end up staying to study, and I was kind of disappointed by the platter. But maybe that's because I had different expectations. I am not sure I would come back. read more

Simple and plain interior, but do you really go to a restaurant for the decor?? No, no you do not. I had the falafel sandwich with a side of hummus. The falafel was really good- crispy, aromatic, flavorful. It was the green falafel, so i think this means it was ground up with parsley? Or some other herb. (Not a falafel expert.) I grew up near Dearborn, Michigan (the Arab capital of America) so my standards for Middle Eastern food are probably a little higher than most Twin City folks. Mim's doesn't disappoint, however, and was easily the best I had here, though I only tried a few places. I've had the falafel platter and sandwich; both were quality. The falafel is a little drier/darker than I like it (I'm more partial to Israeli-style), but still good. The rice is near-perfect, and the hommous is better than average. Prices are great for the amount you get. I wish I'd tried the vegetable kabob at some point, though I'm sketchy on the burritos they sell. Also, the guys who work here are super-friendly. Could use better hours (e.g. weekend hours, period). read more

I am an events coordinator on the St. Paul U of M campus. All our department's employees list Mim's as their favorite on campus lunch option. I order catering for events from Mim's frequently. People always tell me it is delicious, and it is very affordable compared to other restaurants that deliver catering in our area. I love this place. I use to come here all the time when I was a student at the university. The food is great and very fulfilling. I usually order the chicken muraf (small platter). Mim's is a small gem in our midst! Mim's catered our son's outdoor wedding, and the food was no less than perfect. Everything on the menu was absolutely delicious--grilled lamb, chicken, falafel, pita, salad, tahina, hummous, and yellow rice--our 120 guests were raving! Delivery and presentation were spot on....and the value was incredible. The bride and groom were big fans of Mim's from their years as students on the U of M St. Paul campus. Why is everything always soooo overcooked? I've had the Shawarma, overcooked, charred actually. I've had the falafel, overcooked like a brick. I've had a gyro, overcooked, crunchy and charred. After three trips here I've come to the conclusion that they just overcook their food as a rule. read more
