Bar program is strong. The short rib pot pie was a straight up winner. Rich, comforting, and not trying to be anything other than good food done right. The bone marrow lost me. Cooked well, but buried under too many microgreens and then oddly topped with tortilla chip strips. No smokiness either. It felt more confused than cohesive. Where it really started to miss was the overall approach. A lot of "the chef intends this..." type explanations. It ends up feeling like the food insists upon itself instead of just letting you enjoy it. That's the bigger issue. This place exists in a space where I don't think most people want to meet it. Not casual enough to relax, not refined enough to justify the performance. Bottom line: good drinks, great pot pie, but the experience tries a little too hard.

Staffers have been fine, and remote ordering and self-pickup have also been fine. Once in a great while, we will pick up some plants from their garden department but they can't compete quality wise with a couple of local nurseries. The lady I spoke with on the telephone did everything she could not to have a technician come out to check on what was going on with the dishwasher. I contacted Home Depot and spoke with an associate at the Oakbrook Terrace location and they called and spoke with someone with Allstate Protection Plan and made an appointment for a technician to come out June 02, 2026 between 1pm and 3pm. No one showed up or called. I will ask Home Depot to refund my money I paid for the protection plan because it is simply not worth the purchase if a consumer cannot get a technician to come out a look at the appliance.

If you're here for the first time as I was, it was honestly a little difficult to find the right entrance to get to the garden center/ outdoor entrance. When I had the items I needed, the outdoor registers were all closed at the time, so I had to wind my way back into the store. Not a huge deal, but just a head's up. They had some mini potted herb gardens for sale when I went, but all of the plants looked a little wilted or had seen better days. I can't speak too much on the other areas because I didn't need anything from hardware or cleaning supplies to name a few. However, I do know that they use a ton of mail-in rebates if that's of interest. Check-out was a little confusing: I remember that I had to maneuver a little differently with my cart since their process was different from most other stores. Not terribly difficult and the cashier was friendly about it. There was just no clear way to know how to navigate the register for the first time until you chat with the check-out clerk. Parking is generous but a little busy in an expansive private lot.

I continued walking looking for who could help me and finally decided to just wait for the employee who greeted me at the door. As I was waiting (I know George saw me) I watched him approach a customer who had just walked in. He greeted him and asked him what he could help him with. At this point I was annoyed because I had been waiting at least 5 minutes for the other employee to finish up. After about 10 minutes the employee was done and helped me. Now, I have two things it could have been. I'm a woman and I'm not white. This stuff usually doesn't bother me this much but today it did, hence the review. If you're a person of color I'd avoid. Harbor Freight had the best price for a 12v cordless drill ($20) and standard drill bits ($4) compared to other big box hardware stores. I also bought a box cutter while I was there because it was on sale for $2 and seems like a handy tool to have around. I'm sure it's not the best quality drill, but I was able to successfully drill pilot holes in an IKEA laminate countertop for my freestanding kitchen island underframe to attach to, which is really the most intense demand I'll be putting on it. I imagine it'll work well to drill into the wall for furniture anchor pieces, too.
