Because of an accident - broken arm and shoulder surgery, I have been unable to drive and unable to carry even the smallest item in a puse for longer than five minutes. For that reason, I was given a walker which carries what I need for the time being. And since I cannot drive, I have had to use the bus system to get to areas to far for me to walk. Some - not all - of the drivers, ignoring thet fact that I am pushing a walker, refuse to allow me to sit prior to taking off. Since I'm holding onto a walker, and not the handles on the bus, when they jerk the bus forward, the walker starts to tip over, taking me down with it. This has happened five times. So far, I have been able to throw myself ito a seat, so I havn't fallen. I called to complain. The customer service in the office is kind and understanding and has assured me that drivers will be informed that anyone using assistance to get around needs to be seated before the bus jerks forward. After calling multiple times, nothing changed. One of the customer service Reps suggested that I stop to tell the driver that I need to be seated before he moves the bus forward. I did that once, and the driver did the exact opposite, making sure that I nearly fell as I tried to approach the seat. read more

I was traveling from Walmart bus 14 after Walmart closed. I waited two hours and the bus came at midnight. So. it was long ago. Next time, I decided to take the bus 15. I shouldn't have. I was on my way to Walmart early. The bus didn't come for an hour, but it was a bus in the other direction and I ended up in Metro Market. Yesterday, (11.3) I left the house at 6:30 p.m. at the Holton and Burleigh stop to take the # 15 bus to Walmart. So, I stopped in front of the stop where the camera could see me because people in that area could attack others even on this bus stop, which happened to me earlier in the year. Anyway, the bus didn't come for over an hour, so I started walking and the bus was at 7 50 pm. So, do the math. This is not a reliable bus system with unusual management. So, TWICE in the past week, the fare machines have eaten my money and jammed, leaving the driver unable to get an All Day Pass, and forcing me to walk home because I didn't have money for return fare. Even if you call them, MCTS refuses to issue same day credit/refund, forcing you to pay twice (if you have the extra money- I don't). I feel sorry for the hard-working drivers. What in the actual fuck, MCTS? I usually keep my reviews G-rated, or PG-13 at the worst, but what the fuck? After today, I'm literally shaking my head at you, MCTS. This is sort of a compilation of experiences my fiancée and I have had on the MCTS. They're more-or-less in order from most to least ridiculous. 1. The event that prompted this review happened less than 24 hours ago. My fiancée took the 80 to work downtown this morning and she recounts the following: A couple blocks south of National, the bus driver struck a construction sign. You know the type, the temporary ones put up when there's construction ahead. The type that are BRIGHT ORANGE so as to be visible to drivers. The noise was pretty gruesome; it sounded like a tire had been punctured and the bus was riding on the rim. You would think that the noise alone--not to mention the impact--would prompt the driver to stop, right? Wrong. The sign had actually punctured the undercarriage of the bus (see the picture I've uploaded) and was being drug along, inches from my fiancée's foot (another woman apparently had an even closer call, if the post had been longer it would have probably destroyed her shin---if it had been longer and punctured about a food back, somebody would have gotten a chunk of metal right up the ass...and a big settlement courtesy of the taxpayers of Milwaukee County). As the bus continued, passengers shouted at the driver. "You hit something," they said. "I know!" the driver replied, with an unmistakable crankiness. "I'm just trying to knock it loose!" (WHAT!? You hit something and THAT is your reaction? What planet do you come from?) "It's through the floor," people shouted back. Blocks later, the driver apparently relented and pulled over. A passenger tried to pull the sign loose, but it was stuck. (It probably didn't help that the driver "helped" by pulling forward as he yanked on it, which just got the post more embedded in the undercarriage). Eventually, the driver gave up and called another bus. Since this was the morning rush, it would have been nice if they'd have sent an empty bus to pick up where they left off, but no...they just let the bus full of people get on the next regularly scheduled bus. That means there were two busses worth of grumpy, now late, morning commuters packed on to one bus. MCTS, fire this driver before she causes any more damage to county property, or worse, her negligence and/or incompetance causes her to hit a person. 2. I was on a bus travelling from UWM to my old apartment in Riverwest (the Red Line). The bus was late as it was, and the driver skipped his layover. As we pulled up to the stop near Capital and Oakland, the driver stops. No one had pulled the rope, no one is entering the bus. The driver says "just a few minutes" and exits the bus, nowhere to be seen. He apparently ran into the subway a half block down the street and got a sandwich, which he ate as he continued his route. The fuck? You made a bus full of people wait so you could get a damn sandwich? 3. At night, the buses get sketchy. My fiancée has opted to drive when she has her one late night at work per week, because more than once she's been cornered by creepy dudes saying "ey baby you looking fine tonight" or some other shit. It was to the point where I was picking her up at work if possible, or just meeting her at the bus stop looking as "greasy biker" as I possibly could. At one point one of these guys grabbed her ass, and from then on she started driving in. 4. A typical complaint, but when I was relying on the bus (the 30 on the East Side, or the Red Line in Riverwest) it would often either plain not show up or show up very late about half the time. read more

Milwaukee County Transit System - The driver ran over a BRIGHT ORANGE construction sign, impaling the bottom of the bus and almost injuring two passengers. WTF!? - Public Transportation Near Me - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

When you're in Milwaukee for a weekend of beer and cheese, driving isn't really in the cards. We started out with Yellow Cab, which was prompt, but pricey. After a nearly $20 cab ride from Bay View to Lakefront Brewery, I decided to look into MCTS. I can't speak for all of Milwaukee, but getting between Bayview and most of our destinations was easy as pie on MCTS via the 15 and Green lines. We took it the Third Ward, Brewers Hill, over to the Summerfest fairgrounds, and points in between. The buses are very clean and rides are $2.25 and include a free transfer that's usually good for a few hours. There's also a downtown trolley loop that runs in the summer months for $1/ride. There is no bus tracker, but you can use Google Transit to find out when the next bus is scheduled to arrive. Promptness was hit or miss, a few times we arrived more than a few minutes early and no bus arrived at the appointed time. Fortunately, there was never a bus very far behind it. The one feature I really missed on the bus itself was the LED and recorded message announcing stops like they have at home; most times it wasn't an issue, but there were a few times we had to walk back a few blocks after whizzing by our stop. 3.5 stars - if MCTS got all-day or weekend passes, I'd probably bump them to 4 stars; ensuring you have exact change all the time is a pain in the ass. The bus wouldn't be my first choice if I was in a hurry, but for general getting around, it's a good deal. read more

MCTS employees are generally excellent, especially in comparison to the often hostile and inarticulate CTA workers I experienced growing up in Chicago. It's pretty easy to get around the Milwaukee area by bus, and even easier if the weather permits travel by a combination of bus and bicycle. The key is to use Google Maps to get routes and times, though buses will often be off by around 5 minutes, so you need to allow for that when you plan. Some routes have odd branching, and you can't tell which bus is which until it's too late, so for those routes it's a good idea to study the map on the MCTS homepage. I've experienced bus drivers that have gone out of their way to help me with directions, and one time the Chief of Staff left a lunch box I gave her as a gift on a bus, and a day later we retrieved it from their very pleasant lost and found. Most MCTS bus drivers are reasonably accommodating to bicyclists. This is a direct contrast to Chicago where on more than one occasion, city buses ran me off the road, twice I was actually hit (always wear a bike helmet, saved my life). Both men and women have contributed by allowing my son amd myself a ride home on the bus because im not very familiar with the funding part goes. I used to build these coach buses up in Crookston, Minnesota boy that was a very fun experience. Im still in the log in context. After 9 years away im still apart of new flyer industry. On July 8, I waited for bus 14 next to Pick N' Save at E. Garfield. So this time there were two buses going toward downtown, but not from there. Finally, after 55 minutes, it came at 22:45. And I had been waiting since 21:50 pm. I asked the bus driver what was going on? She told me, "Get a car." It is not very polite to say the person who has chronic pain in their feet. My ice cream, yogurt, and other things melted. What a waste. I want to move out. The "city" has changed. Well, maybe it hasn't changed where it looks like a city. Who knows. read more

I ride the bus almost every day to and from work, so by now I have learned the ins and outs of it. If you are riding on a weekday before 9pm, your bus will most likely be right on schedule. But any time after 9pm and expect it to be running at least 5 minutes late. If you are riding on a Saturday your bus will either be 5 minutes early or late. And God forbid if you are planning to ride the bus on a Sunday- find another ride, unless you enjoy standing at bus stops for long periods of time. However, no matter how off schedule they are, the bus drivers are usually very friendly (one of them even hands out candy canes during Christmas time) If you need to go somewhere, the bus will get you there, and for the majority on time. read more

I honestly have not used the Milwaukee buses much since my carless days at uwm with my trusty upass. It's not like I'm a snob by any wild stretch of the imagination, or one of those people who are scared of all places and things "urban". Its honestly that I'm a little intimidated by figuring out the schedule and routes etc. I always figure I'm going to be late, wind up on the wrong bus, etc. And let's face it, doing something new for the first time is always a little stressful. But I like taking lots of trips during the year that require a trip to the airport and the annoying associated parking fees. As much as I like to find deals when I travel, all those 3.3 ounce bottles and nights out you GOTTA have once you fly 1000+ miles to get some where start to add up. Airport parking is just 30 or 40 nonvalue add $$s I'd like to eliminate. So imagine my surprise when I look up while walking down Brady st & see a bus reading "green to airport" in big letters flying down the street. I did a little research and discovered the green line picks up on Brady st every 15 mins roughly on its way from bayshore to the airport. The schedule was easy to read online. I felt a little weird hanging out with my suitcase on Brady st but whatevs. Its $2.25 a ride and the driver told me to "get it next time" when he realized I didn't have exact change for the 25 cents. (They don't give change but do take $1s) It got me to ticketing during rush hr in a little under 40 mins and I got to do things like yelp, text and tweet the whole time. (along with finally figuring out where the off the clock bar and boone & crockett are. Maybe I should get out more in my own city.) I was going to ride with a friend home on the way home but the bus was there when I walked outside from the baggage claim area and it ended up being faster anyhow. So this is totally my new favorite way to get to the airport. It's comparable in time to driving and running through the parking garage. There's no worrying about leaving ur car in a strange place and u save gas and the price of parking. Whoo hoo! read more

I have a love-hate relationship with Milwaukee's bus system. From my home to work is 30 minutes. I can jump on and read my e-mail and not worry about traffic or weather. Most of the drivers are friendly and helpful. My hate comes when the scheduled bus comes too early and I miss it or significantly late and I have to stand out in the windy cold. These scenarios happen most frequently in the evening hours when I'm trying to get back home. When downtown enjoying time with my friends, I love not having to worry about my blood alcohol level, but I hate having to time my departure by my best guess as to when the bus might arrive. Almost invariably, I have to wait 15 to 30 minutes for my bus. I look forward to being able to track the buses very soon! read more

really inconsistent service. sometimes it's great and on-time, other times, I've waited more than 15 minutes after scheduled arrival times (and I'm never late to the stop, in case you're wondering). operators run the gamut from friendly and accommodating to crabby and abrasive. I LOVE it when the bus comes on time, but it doesn't happen as frequently as it should. with budget cuts, it seems MCTS is going to have to cut buses and spend less on maintenance. For its users, that means longer waits between buses, and more breakdowns. without getting too political, I think milwaukeeans should say something to their councilmen and women before public transportation disappears entirely from the city. read more

In a perfect world, the MCTS would link the many cities and neighborhoods of Milwaukee County together. In reality, it's only a shadow of what it once was... a competent transit system. During a recent morning rush hour the #15, my usual bus, whose route normally runs straight to downtown, decided to end its route at the Mitchell St. transit station, forcing everyone off the bus to wait 15 minutes for another bus to come by and take us the rest of the way into downtown. Why would they end routes short of downtown during rush hour? I appreciate that they're making do with the funding they've been provided, and the bus drivers themselves have all been very friendly, but until they add more buses and more reliable service to equal the $64/mo. cost for a weekly rider, I can't give it more than two stars. The bus could be a much more attractive option for commuters in this city, but for whatever reason our elected officials refuse to embrace this much greener transportation alternative. read more

What a terrible business. They are constantly overly early. Lateness is understandable because things happen. But when these busses are constantly early and not waiting for the passengers who need that specific time, that's not fair. Tonight I was outside to board the 8:26 bus 22 going west on Locust from Locust & Oakland. I got to the stop at 8:20. That means this bus was over 6 minutes early. This is unfair to the bus riding population. I had to wait outside from 8:20 to 8:46 for the next bus to come. In 9 degree weather. This is constantly happening. I am always 5-10 minutes early for the bus and I would say once every week and a half, the bus has already gone by by the time I get there. Such an impatient, unclean business. I can't wait for warm weather so I don't have to deal with this anymore. read more

Being a newbie to the bus with the whole color coded lines it was super easy to navigate different lines to get around the city. I used to take the old 15 from campus to my house yet it's now called the red line yet runs the same route. The buses are a lot better than they were. I've used public transport in multiple cities, and Milwaukee's is by far the least reliable I've experienced. I take the bus everyday to get to and from work, and I usually end up waiting 10 minutes longer than I should have to when the bus is late...which is way too often. Especially in a cold winter city like Milwaukee, the buses really need to run on time so people aren't left waiting in the cold for a ridiculous amount of time. It's great that we have new buses on the road; they're much better than the old, brown, nasty ones that are still on the road (although much fewer of them). The couple of times that I've filed a complaint through MCTS for legitimate reasons, I always get a bogus excuse back from whomever answers the comments. The excuses are usually because of traffic, snow, etc. This is Wisconsin...it snows. Every. Year. If buses can't function on the same schedule that they can in the summer, then modify the schedule to be more realistic to reflect how long it will actually take to get across town. read more

As a downtown resident I gotta show some love for MCTS. I hear what you're thinking. A bus? Gee-ish. Let me dispel your theory with the following benefits... 1. M-CARD. Let's say you want to have a backup for occasional bus use. There's a card for that! You can buy one all over and reload it online as easily as a Starbucks card. A swipe and you're riding, for $1.75 - saving 50 cents off the cash fare cost. Nice! 2. Free shuttles. So you've been at Summerfest or one of the major festivals and you parked downtown. Let me tell you a secret - every half hour a bus leaves from right outside the main gate and will drop you off at stops along Wisconsin Avenue. And vice versa. For FREE. You heard me. How convenient! 3. The Green Line. Geez parking at Milwaukee County Airport is expensive. And then there's cabs - pricey. The Green Line bus gets you to the airport in about 25 minutes from downtown - no hassle in traffic - and costs you a one way fare. That means more money for margaritas with the savings! 4. The Cream Puff Line. Headed to State Fair? Wow traffic and construction make getting there a mess. Enter The Cream Puff Line, which picks up downtown and in Walker's Point and drops you off at the fair's front gate 40 minutes later. For the (fair) fare cost. Great! 5. Real time updates of bus schedules online and via text message. Say the weather's not cooperating with your walk home from work and you don't want to wait forever. Plan people Plan! Look up the route, find the stop number along the route, and text as specified on the site. Bingo - you get a message showing how long until the next two buses at your stop arrive! Note the stop coordinates on your phone contacts and you are set to get this information instantly. Handy! read more

I should start out by saying this review is only for the Summerfest shuttle. I have no experience with MCTS outside of that. We've done the park and ride twice in the past few years for Summerfest and I'm very impressed with how organized and efficient it is. We've gone on July 3rd so we can watch the fireworks, so I was afraid we would face a giant line afterward and have to wait God-knows-how-long through multiple buses (while ranting to myself about how this is why I try to avoid big crowds). Nope, that's not the case. A few years ago, we got on the next bus out to our parking lot. This year, we waited for an extra bus, but that's only because we had a baby. We could've gone on the first bus, but we would've had to stand. Noticing the baby and my two older parents, the wonderful employees put us in a second bus so that we could sit instead. We still didn't wait for more than a few minutes before we were on our way. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of parking downtown for Summerfest, I highly recommend the shuttle! read more

The bus drivers have attitudes and experience road rage. The Driver pulled away from the curb with no turn signal and directly in front of my vehicle forcing me into on coming traffic. I had 2 of my 3 children in the car at the time he could have KILLED all of us in a head on collision. Then when I hit the gas to get around him he rode behind me with his brights on then I stopped 2 blocks up to get his bus number so I could file a complaint. I got the number and was walking back to my vehicle and then he pulled his bus into the middle of a intersection blocking traffic and stopped to start a verbal confrontation with me all because he did not look before he moved into traffic. He did not use his turn signal while pulling away from the curb. He did not look before moving into traffic. Then he proceeded to make a bad situation worse buy shining his brights at me. Then made it even worse buy stopping in the middle of traffic blocking an intersection to start a verbal confrontation. I will be at 1942 n 17th st (where mcts is located) Monday morning to make sure everyone and any one will here me. This is ridiculous road rage while driving a 30,000lb vehicle. Not admitting when you are wrong I would have let it go but for him to ride his brights on me then to stop blocking traffic in both directions to make even more of a problem. I wonder what the going rate is for killing for a father a husband and 2 of his children is? This man is a menace and should not be on the road. For that matter he shouldn't even be allowed to drive a golf cart. My suggestion if you want to live to make it home don't ride the bus their driver might kill you or an innocent family. Great service to & from Summerfest, which is the only time I use the transit system. So, why only 2 stars? Because I have a major issue with bus stops being located at traffic intersections. Have you seen that stupid sign on the left rear corner of all transit busses? It reads: " Illegal to make right turn in front of bus". Why are busses loading & unloading at the intersections? Not only does it cause more congestion at traffic intersections. But, it also puts waiting customers at the most dangerous place along city streets. The majority of automobile accidents occur at intersections! The transit authorities are putting their waiting customers at the most precarious location along our streets. I believe bus stops should be located a minimum of 50 yards from major intersections. Much less of a chance of a bus stop being mowed over by an out of control vehicle. A pullout area at bus stops would be nice too. Busses are supposed to help with traffic congestion, not cause it by stopping traffic in the right lane. read more

Went to Irish Fest and was going to take bus on Sun. Got there at 9:00 and waited till 10:30 NO BUS. One lady was there from 8;30 trying to get to the mass. We called and the bus company said the bus had been postponed until 11:30. Can't believe someone didn't hang a sign. We went out and purchased food for the fest to get in free and rented a hotel room. We never did get to the fest just came back to Chicago. Parking by fest is 25.00 and the acts this year were not that great. A lot of instruments and not much singing. I like the old fest sing a longs etc. I think Milwaukee is missing the boat. I also hear they want to stop the flyer to the fairgrounds. I will not be coming if that is the case. I hope others had better luck Sun. Aug 18.2019. Shame they had a good thing going. read more

Driver cut me off while I was riding a bicycle. I caught up to him when he stopped and asked why he cut me off, he proceeded to push me off the road with the bus. I called both MCTS and MPD and MCTS said they would review security footage but never got back to me. Apparently it's not a big deal because I wasn't killed. read more

we were in town for the fair and we use public transportation to get around as much as we can when we travel first if you have a android phone down load the app it is such help and was very accurate too, I like that the bus went right to the State Fair from down town ( but you could get it out to the hotels) so they can tell guest what bus to catch the # 18 BTW is the one you need we went out for dinner and went across town to check out a coffee shop, and the buses came very often like every 10 - 20 minutes not sure how often they are scheduled but was happy to see them kinda regular even on a weekend in most town on a Sunday you can wait an extra hour easy if you miss a bus the drivers all were helpful when I told them what stop i wanted, as they don't use the speakers when calling out stops it helps to let them know what stop you need, and one helped me find a late night place to eat when I got on the wrong way read more

HORRIBLE! The busses are never on time, if your switching busses and the driver honks the other bus takes off, I had an incident where one minute the bus is on the mcts tracker 1 second then gone and reappering blocks away from but never passing me. When I reported it they were honest and told me the driver knew they were late so they turned off their gps took an alt route to get back on schedule. And the mcts app schedule is not correct! The drivers always tell me their scheduled time is different than what the app says! I hate that I cant afford a car and stuck with this horrible excuse of transportation! read more

MCTS has great service overall but I have an issue with the service for Summerfest and other festivals via the Freeway Flyers. You promote using the Flyers and I do agree in using them with no problems in the past few years. But this year I've an issue with the new layout of the 45 Freeway Flyer Watertown Plank Road Location. Under normal conditions with less than 200 parking spots there shouldn't be an issue. This year the overflow lot was taken away via the college football field and redesign of the whole area. So where's people going to go? Well several of us parked at the hotel across the street in hopes of no trouble even though they knew we were all doing it. This is a major inconvenience to us. Just for the Summerfest season why couldn't we use the Burleigh Park in Ride like we did last year. Hopefully next year things will be thought out more throughly. read more

Love to take the MCTS shuttle to Summerfest, however, this year all has changed. MCTS your changes to the shuttle service stink. We waited 1 1/2 hours at the Grafton Target in a line that was at least 2 hours long. After no bus showed up in the 1 1/2 hours we called a Uber and took that to Summerfest. We then decided to ride the shuttle back after Summerfest, another mistake. Same issue. We waited 1 1/2 hours packed in like cattle to get on the bus. Didn't get back to Target until 1:30 AM and we are normally there by 12:30 or 1:00 at the latest. Your new systems stinks!! Please switch back to the old system!!! read more
