Melissa and her team make it the most seamless, easy process. They took care of all the activities, games, goody bags, set up and clean up, they even provided the plates and napkins and candles. All we had to do was show up with cupcakes! The party themes are so fun and unique, we did the squishmallow party and the girls absolutely loved it. Don't hesitate to make your life easier and let The Crafty Place plan your kids birthday party!!

Last week, I went to the Opening Reception for the South Shore Art Center's current Media Mix…read moreexhibition (one of my pieces is in the show!) What a lovely evening! And, crowded, too -the entire gallery space was packed! There was food, beer, wine, live jazz music, awards, and lots of beautiful artwork! :) If you have never been, there are basically 2 main gallery spaces, the Bancroft Gallery & the Dillon Gallery. The Bancroft gallery is the larger space where Media Mix is being shown. I like this space very much! It has large walls on one side of it, and shorter walls on the other side with ample lighting. The walls seem to be some kind of upholstered plywood which makes for easy positioning of paintings. (No worrying about hiding nail holes!) There is also a hardwood floor which makes the entire space look modern and clean. The Dillon Gallery is smaller and darker. There was an exhibit of Italian paintings in there, which I enjoyed very much! This was really my first involvement with the South Shore Art Center, but overall, it seems to be a great place to view and learn about art! Everyone I met there is very friendly, and happy to meet local artists. It is also located in a beautiful town! I highly recommend stopping by to take a peek: http://blog.thelonebeader.com/2010/03/media-mix-opening-reception.html

But prior to the evenings events a light meal was offered to its guests and a one also could enjoy their favorite beverage! It was a memorable evening and Linda Champion was exceptionally gracious and thankful for all who attended! Talking to her as she beamed with a smile ear to ear to see everyone together! I have gone to the Irish Cultural Centre for the Serendipity a la Mode event (formerly Brown Sugar)…read morefor several years and the outdoor venue is equally beautiful during the day and in the evening. The outdoor area is covered by a large tent and there is room for vendors around the perimeter which adds ambience to the day party. The indoor bar area is exactly what you would expect from an old school pub (dark wood, beige, and close quarters) and the bathrooms could use a lot of updating and regular upkeep when a big event is taking place. I would have a party here, but if they want to elevate this as a wedding venue, there needs to be some major renovation to the pub and the restrooms (specifically the ladies room). There's a little footbridge to cross from the parking lot to the actual space which is actually kind of fun for pictures and feels like you are on a little adventure. I can not speak to the service (other than the bar...pretty typical experience...not enough bartenders for the crowd indoors...outdoors was a bit better later in the evening). The food I have had in the past is provided by third parties, so I can not make any comments about the venue's food supply.
