The Quincy Artsfest has established itself as one of the finest family oriented art and photography shows in Massachusetts, and it is one a the few things left to do in town that is free! They have 4 different art exhibits, childrens' workshops, entertainment, and craft sales. It's usually held two weeks after Labor Day, and it is a fun place to take the kids! And, crowded, too -the entire gallery space was packed! There was food, beer, wine, live jazz music, awards, and lots of beautiful artwork! :) If you have never been, there are basically 2 main gallery spaces, the Bancroft Gallery & the Dillon Gallery. The Bancroft gallery is the larger space where Media Mix is being shown. I like this space very much! It has large walls on one side of it, and shorter walls on the other side with ample lighting. The walls seem to be some kind of upholstered plywood which makes for easy positioning of paintings. (No worrying about hiding nail holes!) There is also a hardwood floor which makes the entire space look modern and clean. The Dillon Gallery is smaller and darker. There was an exhibit of Italian paintings in there, which I enjoyed very much! This was really my first involvement with the South Shore Art Center, but overall, it seems to be a great place to view and learn about art! Everyone I met there is very friendly, and happy to meet local artists. It is also located in a beautiful town! Melissa and her team make it the most seamless, easy process. They took care of all the activities, games, goody bags, set up and clean up, they even provided the plates and napkins and candles. All we had to do was show up with cupcakes! The party themes are so fun and unique, we did the squishmallow party and the girls absolutely loved it. This was my second time visiting Stetson Hall as well as the second SSTW production I have seen. Stetson Hall is located in the heart of Randolph. A historic building set at the four corners of North Street, S Main Street, Union Street, and N Main Street. The building is handicapped accessible with a working elevator to the second level. The bathrooms are also handicapped accessible. There is plenty of parking and an entrance on S Main Street and Union Street. There is also a large parking lot next door should it become necessary. As an audience member, there is not a bad seat in the house. The seating is typical banquet hall seats. They are not terribly comfortable however. I would recommend bringing a seat cushion. The production itself was wonderful. As I mentioned this was the second SSTW production I had the privilege of viewing and I loved every minute of it. I was at Stetson Hall as a photographer to cover an Indian Wedding. I would assume that it is not…read moreas expensive as a Marriott or a Four Season's hotel but the place is fine for a wedding if you are in a budget. Secondly, it is a historic place. Thirdly, it is big. The indian wedding I covered has 250 guests and I didn't feel that it was crowded. There is a stage where you can put the presidential table or DJ and there is a mezzanine at the back which overlooks the reception floor. (See attached pictures.) As to the formal photo shoot, there is a park with a gazebo 3 minutes away from Stetson Hall. But with this wedding I covered, the bride chose to do the formal photo shoot in a friend's house in Stoughton. But I see no problem of doing the formal photo shoots in Stetson Hall itself. I think the bride hired her caterer and her own dj. So most probably, you just get the hall when you rent it. I think the caterer hired was also the one who decorated the hall as they were the ones fixing the tables with decorations. I would recommend Stetson Hall for a bride who is in a budget. But all in all, the guests had a lot of fun as they hired a DJ plus an indian drum crew. I give Stetson Hall a 4 star. It is conveniently located too in the South Shore.
