This is an update on how this company handles damaged goods and missing items claims. After unpacking all our boxes, we discovered that we were missing several valuable items. These included an extension ladder, a "Little Giant" ladder, a step ladder, two lamps, paper shredder, box of drinking and drinking glasses. This doesn't negate the fact that they damaged several pieces of furniture. After filing my claim, I got the following response: "Hello Seung, We received and reviewed your claim form. It is our determination that only the initial items reported missing can be addressed. Those items being the missing glasses and damaged bookcase. This determination is based on the time lapse between the actual move and the time of claim form submission. All claims must be submitted in writting within 14 days of move. We will be in contact to discuss the next steps in the repair of the damaged bookcase and missing glasses. Kind regards, Thomas Milo the Mover" Since most of the missing items are large valuable pieces, Milo and their crew got to pick and choose what they get to keep from our stuff, and return what they want to return. It took 2 days instead of the 1 day quoted, probably because they were high (and kept getting high.) They would try to carry too much to cut down on trips and drop boxes. They dropped an antique piece of furniture, kept it for repairs, and now won't reply to my wife's messages. Too bad, it was her anniversary gift. I thought I would give a local business their shot. Don't. They're not professional. Reeked of pot. Broke a family heirloom and then had a shouting match about it in our new neighborhood. I wouldn't normally post something so negative but they will not respond and take ownership of the situation. read more

Milo the Mover did a great job moving me from Charlottesville, VA to Raleigh, NC. His team was friendly, helpful, and efficient. All of the furniture in my apartment was out in 30 minutes tops, and everything was carefully wrapped and carried to the moving truck. Everything made it to Raleigh in good condition. However, they were 40 minutes late to my appointment at 7 AM, so I have to deduct a star. At around 7:10, I started panicking and began calling, leaving messages, and emailing, but they didn't get back to me until around 7:20, to say that their truck had broken down. While everything else about the move was a positive experience, this was an inconvenience that could've been avoided if they'd checked on their truck in advance. Tip: Make sure to ask them for a phone number to call on the day of the move, or you might run into the problem that I had where their office might not have been open yet! read more

I rarely write reviews but just can't not describe the disastrous experience with this company. DO NO UNDER AND CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS COMPANY!!! I especially suggest this for anyone that is part of the UVA community. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I don't want any fellow Cavaliers to go through what we have experienced. I was a senior level executive within the University and Milo seemed anxious to have us as a client. Initially he was nice and service oriented. He is now ghosting us and has left no alternative but to seek a remedy in court. I paid thousands of dollars to him to pack, store (for months) and move my household contents. He packed our house and moved it into what we were told would be a secure storage unit. At a cost of $350 per month we thought it would be well cared for. Sadly, when our items were moved, there were many large items that simply couldn't be found. Our first clue was when a chair was unloaded early in the process that wasn't ours - we had never seen it before. Ultimately, we literally discovered that roughly 20 items of ours are untraceable. Big items like bikes, golf clubs, huge mirror, boxes of linens. He asked for a list of items missing and an estimated replacement cost. We provided the list and never heard back from him!! Furthermore, many items were damaged in the moved. A chest of drawers was broken in half. New bedroom suite from pottery barn was badly damaged. When we raised these issues he said go ahead and fix them and I'll reimburse you. All of this communicated in writing. After repairs were made, lists were sent to him and re-sent to him per his request, when we did get him on the phone - always said the same thing "I'll have my guys check the warehouse" - he never followed up to let us know if they ever found anything of ours in his warehouse. Broken art frames, broken vases and decor, and smashed boxes crushing the contents. Damaged piano and piano bench, the list goes on . . . He has yet to reimburse us for the repairs, or file anything with his insurance company for our missing items, and now at this point he won't answer or return our calls. If you care about having your things moved, stored safely, and having everything returned to you, I would highly recommend calling a different moving company. read more

Milo and his crew just finished unloading my truck that I had packed in GA and transported up here with UPACK. They were great and were able to do everything in a couple of hours; it had taken us 4-6 hours to pack. They pointed out a problem with some furniture that had been damaged during shipping (my fault) and recommended someone to come fix it. I won't hesitate to use them again. Now the hard part of unpacking all the boxes they brought in!!! read more

SCAM SCAM: Its been 5 days since the no call no show and these people have still not returned one phone call about getting my deposit back. I physically drove to there address and they are no longer there. I talked with a bystander who works near the area and he said "I've heard very similar stories." I had to call the credit card company to get my deposit back. Do NOT use these people. Update on my no call no show move over the weekend. No one from this company showed up to move us the day of the move or called to cancel. I have probably called 8-9 times since then and no one has returned my phone calls. I have written multiple emails to the assistant director about getting my initial deposit back since I paid and no services were done. I have yet to hear back from them again. I can only get the answering service and there are no responses from my emails. I just want my deposit back but I can not get ahold of anyone. Poor poor business. Don't waste your money or time. read more

I'm a huge fan of small businesses, in general, but I am not a fan of Milo the Mover. In fact, the most important comment I can make about this business is "don't hire them". My wife and I thought we were being wise by signing up Milo during a recent renovation. His price was low, he was "local", he was personable, and we felt good giving our business to the underdog, having also considered several larger and more established movers. Milo was asked to pick up our household belongings, store them, and return them. Sounds pretty simple. Apparently, for Milo the Mover, this is asking too much. We moved back into our house in early March. It's almost five months later, and we are still missing some of our possessions. Making matters worse, Milo doesn't return our calls, he has ignored our written "claim" form, and he is clearly just waiting us out. I'm sure he knows from experience that, eventually, we will simply give up and stop asking. Our issues with Milo and his company cover all of the bases: - His team did an awful job of packing our items. Consequently, a lot of things were damaged at some point during the ordeal. - He did not do any inventory as items were packed and loaded. We should have recognized this as a problem as it was happening, but we assumed he knew how to keep track of our stuff. Wrong. - He charged us to store our goods in his warehouse for about 10 months. That would have been fine if he had actually returned everything that he picked up 10 months earlier. - It was obvious to us on day one that some of our items were missing. We mentioned this to him upon delivery, and he was able to "find" a few items somewhere in his warehouse. - We also received belongings that were not ours. I don't know to whom they belonged, but this was another sign that Milo has an inventory management problem. - After many calls, even more emails, and a couple of threats of prosecution, a number of our missing items were miraculously found and delivered to us. The location of other items remains unknown. We are not expecting to receive these last few items. Milo, himself, has never returned our calls or emails. It's quite obvious that he just doesn't care. As I said before, I would strongly suggest that you do not hire Milo unless you simply have more possessions that you need, and you don't mind losing a few. Don't let the low price fool you into thinking you will be receiving equal service. We have used professional moving companies many times before, and we've never had problems like those we have experienced with Milo the Mover. read more

After completing all the necessary pre-move requirements, Milo the Mover failed to show up or contact us in any way on the day of our scheduled move. After a few days, they returned our many phone calls and emails and offered us a discounted move the next weekend. Which they failed to show up for either. After five days of no contact, Milo himself reached out and offered to move us for free. However, we had already arranged for a different, far more reliable moving company. I would highly recommend that everyone steer clear given the incredible amount of difficulty we had in our two attempted moves. read more

Milo the Mover has been storing two pallets worth of my personal goods for several years. Several months ago, while trying to update my direct withdrawal information, I went to their location to find that they had moved without notification. They have not been returning calls from me or my wife. We have no way of retrieving our personal goods and no way of paying them for the storage. All we want to do is take our personal possessions out of storage. Avoid using this company for anything, and especially for storage. read more

Do NOT use this company for your moving or storage needs. Dealing with Milo the Mover has been an absolute disaster and it's still not over for us..... A number of my very expensive household goods -- including living room tables, a dresser, a sofa, and an ottoman -- were damaged while in storage and / or during the move process. Milo the owner promised in writing to reimburse me for the costs of repairing these items (at vendors that he recommended), but he has refused to reimburse me for these amounts, even though he has provided me proof that his insurance company has paid him for his claims for these damages. His failure to repay me has caused me to take him to Charlottesville General District Court to secure the money he owes me. These damages and broken promises are on top of the other hassles that we experienced when dealing with Milo the Mover, including missing multiple delivery dates for bringing our household goods to our new house, failing to initially deliver many major items that were not stored in the same location at his warehouse, and causing damages to our new house including mud and dirt tracked onto new carpet and whacking newly-painted walls while moving furniture. This company also "lost" several small items that were never delivered despite repeated requests, which is a recurring problem noted in many other reviews. Do NOT use this mover - use another company that will deal with you honestly and professionally. read more

The video showed the movers covering the door jams, putting on booties to protect the floor coverings and covering furniture with blankets. The movers did none of this when they moved my possessions. The movers did not cover any of my furniture, not even the antiques. They were scratched. The movers did not cover their shoes; it rained the night before the move; they tracked mud in on the carpet that had just been cleaned the week before. when I brought this to Milo's attention, I got no response. read more

I recently moved from Charlottesville to Philadelphia and hired Milo the Mover because of great reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and other review sites. We confirmed a Saturday 7 AM pick up by phone and email multiple times, including a call the evening before where we spoke to Amanda, the "logistics specialist," to double check that everything was in order. 7 AM rolls around, no movers. 7:30, then 8, still no movers. We call the office multiple times to see what's up - no answer. We sent emails to the gmail address, called and texted the cell phone number they gave us, nada. We even went to the address registered with VDOT - no one there. We look into getting a U-Haul, but renting a U-Haul at the last minute in June in a college town just ain't happening. So, desperate, I ask my apartment complex to extend my move-out till Monday, by which time we can get a U-Haul and do it ourselves. (They were awesome and very sympathetic.) Finally, at 10:30, THREE AND A HALF HOURS after they were supposed to arrive, the movers call to say they are in a totally different city, two hours away. Nope, not returning from another job that ran late; they were sent there by Amanda. Somehow she, or the computer, or the guys themselves, interpreted a 7 AM Charlottesville pick-up as an 11 AM Fairfax job. No one can explain how/why that happened. My new apartment doesn't allow move-ins after 6PM, and it's clear we won't make it on time. So, we arrange for these movers to come back on Monday (to Charlottesville!) while we drive up to Philadelphia in our car and move in with the bare essentials. My mother then has to take a day off work on Monday and drive down to Charlottesville to supervise the move out of my old apartment and turn in the keys, and I have to take a half-day from my brand-new job on Tuesday afternoon to receive the furniture. All this was frustrating and stressful, but I would have at least been happy if my stuff had arrived safely. Nope. In the course of the move, they snapped a desk top in two, broke the base of a floor lamp which they duct taped back together, and worst of all, left a 7 inch long scratch in the top surface of an antique wood parquet table. When I contacted the company about this, Amanda emailed back they would hold my check until I am able to find someone to repair the table, and deduct the cost of repair from the check. In less than 24 hours, however, the check was deposited - evidently the promise to compensate, like the promise to move my furniture in a professional manner, was a lie. Overall, an utterly incompetent moving experience - wrong location, wrong time, lack of communication, a delayed delivery by 3 days, several items broken, and flat-out lying regarding payment. This is nothing like I was led to expect, and frankly I'm baffled how Milo managed to get so many glowing reviews. I had better success moving from NYC to Charlottesville when I hired two guys at either end to help load / unload a U-Haul. Going forward, I'll stick to that, and I recommend you do the same. read more

Moving, obviously, can be very stressful, but Milo was there to reassure me that all would go well the day of. They wrapped all of my furniture carefully and were mindful of my belongings. When we met up later at my new place, everything was unloaded and placed where I directed. WORST SERVICE EVER. DO NOT HIRE MILO. We had arranged Milos service to unload our 26 foot moving truck weeks prior to our move to Charlottesville. Plan was for Milos group to arrive and move our things into our house at 2pm. By 3 pm they hadn't showed up. We called FOUR times- also you have to go through a third party answering service which required me to answer the same questions multiple times. They reported to me that Milo was not answering their pages. By 5:15 pm- STILL NO Movers or even a phone call to explain. We began calling other moving companies. We will NEVER recommend Milos Movers and were extremely disappointed. I recommend that if you're moving Charlottesville, you consider alternative movers. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. Milo did not show up as scheduled despite giving a deposit several weeks prior and talking to him on the phone the morning of our move. I drove a uhaul truck several hundred miles into Charlottesville and arrived at approximately 1 PM. Milo was scheduled to arrive at 2 PM. At 3 PM, I became concerned and called his answering service. I did not receive a call back. I called the answering service three more times and still did not receive a return call by 4 PM. He finally called back at approximately 5 PM - three hours after his scheduled time to arrive. He continued to say his 'guys' were on the way. However his guys never showed up. This was a horrible experience for my family, and I do not trust Milo the mover. Luckily I found an alternative local moving company who was willing to assist and did a great job. read more

I have moved many times in my life and this was the best moving company I have ever worked with. I did a lot of research before my move and their prices seemed reasonable for the area but included a lot of little perks I haven't experienced with other companies--shipping me packing supplies right to my door prior to the move, laying down rugs and other protective equipment to protect the walls and floor during the move, bagging my mattress, and wrapping every single piece of furniture top to bottom to prevent damage (definitely less environmentally friendly than using moving blankets but, in my opinion, more effective). Everyone that I worked with at the company was extremely friendly and showed a genuine desire to be helpful (this includes Milo, himself, Sharon and Hailey who answer the phones, and the four movers assigned to me). Guy, one of my movers, is fantastic. dHe was very friendly, patient, and understanding, insisting that I relax and de-stress while the movers did all the work. It took two movers about four hours to move me out of my two bedroom apartment (I had packed everything but the large furniture pieces before they arrived), which seemed longer than it took other movers in the past. However, this was really a reflection of how careful and considerate they were to all of my belongings--making sure they were wrapped properly, that everything was labeled the way it needed to be, and that the truck was arranged properly. Had I known they were going to be at it for so long, I would have had more cash on me to provide a bigger tip. So, if you decide to go with this company, I would suggest you tip well--the movers treat your belongings like their own and do not rest until the job is done the right way. Nothing arrived damaged or even scratched after it was moved twice and sitting in storage for three months. This is pretty spectacular considering that I had several flimsy furniture pieces from Ikea as part of that move that had already been moved several times before. I had already prepared myself for the loss of one shelving unit, for instance, that was really on its last legs. However, everything, to my surprise, came back in pristine condition. There was an issue with my mattress, which, after the move, was sagging oddly. I called Milo the Mover and Milo personally made the two-hour drive to check it out. It turned out that boxspring was accidentally placed on the frame upside down, which Milo quickly corrected. There is true attention to customer satisfaction from the top of this company all the way down. One thing that was concerning to me was that this company does not take an inventory of your belongings when they are loaded and unloaded. Previously, every other mover had placed little numbered stickers on all my belongings to keep track of exactly how many items are being moved and what the items are (boxes vs furniture vs other odds and ends). This allows one to determine if any items are missing after the move. However, I was assured that only my items were being loaded on to their truck, that these items were being taken directly to storage, and that they would be stored together in its own area. Other companies I have worked with do not take these precautions. Luckily, I always keep my own inventory in excel of all my items and number my own boxes so I was able to verify that no items were missing upon delivery. Moving is stressful no matter what you do or who you hire. However, it was nice to know that all of my worries were unconfirmed. In my isolated experience, hiring Milo the Mover is not hiring a "moving company." At the very least, it's hiring a team of people who are dedicated to doing what they say they are going to before they take your money. This fact alone is worth a lot. read more

If I were you I would not go near these people. They gave us a 7:00 AM delivery and called back with a 10-1 window. It is now nearly 5 PM and no Milo anywhere in sight. We called at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, and we're hung up on just now at 4:40 by their answering service. At no time was our call returned as promised. They will not give a name of a management person to contact and have wasted hours of our time. We asked for them to call the driver to check status with no luck.i am sure they are closing at 5 and off to enjoy their Saturday night. I called Milo about a month or so before the move for an estimate trying to get everything planned as much as possible knowing we didn't have a move date, in fact didn't get our move date until a week before the move. Milo not only gave us a great price but also said don't worry about the unknown date, that he would work with us. With 4 days notice, Milo and his crew were able to move essentially two households from Earlysville to Stanardsville, wrapping everything with care, padding all the corners, laying out mats to protect floors on both ends of the move. The new house had a steep drive and 70% of all the household furniture had to be carried around to the back and down a sloping yard to go into the basement. His crew worked straight through only stopping for lunch a a few minutes to do crew swap. His team was amazing, friendly and fast. Despite working from 7am to almost 6pm, his rate never changed and the quality of work never diminished. We would highly recommend Milo and his movers to everyone we know. read more

Milo's crew is great--they packed up my furniture with care and had everything out of my apartment within an hour. They were also very good about keeping me up to date on their location via text. I was nervous about them finding a place to unload my boxspring in DC, but they were pros. I got quotes from 2 companies and Milo's had more competitive pricing. Three stars because of general management--nothing to do with the movers themselves. I moved at the end of May, which is a busy time, so I understand that schedules may change. I got a call from Milo the night before the move asking if it was ok for the movers to arrive an hour later than scheduled. I was fine with that, but then the morning of he called shortly before the movers were scheduled to arrive and said they were running late on another move and would be an hour late. I waited the extra hour... and then another... then called again and was told they were on their way. After they packed up my things, they had to make a stop somewhere else near Charlottesville before heading up to VA/DC for my move, so I had about another hour of down time waiting for them up in VA. I had driven back from DC very late the night before to be with a family member for serious surgery, so I was happy to push the initial start time up an hour. However, I would have appreciated a more accurate estimate for when the movers would arrive the day of (or at least an update after the first hour passed), and knowing that they wouldn't be bringing my things up right after they were packed. I realize it was a really busy time of year, but overall communication could have been better. I felt like half of my time was spent waiting: 2 extra hours in the morning, then an hour in the afternoon. I've never used movers for a non-local move, so maybe having multiple customers along the route is to be expected. But again, would've appreciated a heads up for planning purposes, particularly because it was a sensitive time involving family health issues. Still, 5 stars for the movers--they were very professional and efficient. read more
