    The beers were decent.

We have never been to Amana before and we looked forward to eating some German food. We had a late lunch where we ordered the Bratwurst sandwich and a Schnitzel sandwich. The bratwurst was nothing like a German brat. I lived in Germany for 3.5years and have traveled their many other times and I know my German food. I always look for German resraurants here in the U.S. so I can tell you that I know what a brat should taste like. First, the casing on brat was so tough you couldn't cut it with the knife provided. You had to saw away trying to slice off a piece. It was so chewy that I am not sure what the heck they use for their casing? It was like rubber. The worst I have ever had! I would give the brat a zero rating if I could. Awful! Next was the Schnitzel. Again, it was nothing like a German Schnitzel. It was like eating some frozen food pre-made piece of poorly breaded minute steaks. It was not good. My Schnitzel came out and was so dark brown and over cooked. Again, I cannot recommend the Schnitzel. It was terrible. The best thing we ordered was the Cheese Curds. They were decent. We had a flight of beers that were pretty good. I would not recommend coming here for the food but rather just to grab a beer. The sercive was great. I give this place a 1 rating only because the food was so horrific that I wouldn't want anyone else to have such an awful meal.

Fun place where it all began. The food was what I came in for but they also have a lot of cool $6 beers. However, they have some specialty brews that are $10. No thank you. This ain't New York City. But stick to the $6 ones and some cheese curds and you'll. Be fine here. The. Bee awe is Greta and they are beer battered. Beautiful ambiance inside and out.

Beer in a boot, giant pretzels, and good vibes--what more do you need? We stopped by Millstream Brau Haus while visiting the Amana Colonies, and it was easily one of the highlights of the trip. This place gives cozy German beer hall energy but with the chill charm of small-town Iowa. Let's talk drinks: the Farmer's Tan beer was my favorite--light, smooth, and perfect for patio sipping. And yes, I 100% ordered it in a giant glass boot because... how could you not? It's weirdly fun and makes the whole experience feel like a mini Oktoberfest. Food-wise, the pretzel is the move. Giant, warm, soft, and served with a cheese dip I could honestly eat with a spoon. Their burgers also surprised me--really juicy, well-seasoned, and exactly what you want with a beer in hand. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day and sat outside on their patio, which just made everything better. Great people-watching, relaxed atmosphere, and super friendly staff who made us feel right at home. If you're exploring Amana and want a spot that's casual, delicious, and a little bit playful (I mean... beer boots!), Brau Haus is the way to go. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.

We chose this spot because they have outdoor seating. I had way too much fun feeding crumbs to the little birds. Haha My favorite part of my meal was my black cherry soda. I ended up buying a 6-pack to take back home to Nebraska. I also bought my husband a 6-pack of their wheat ale. I had the fried chicken sandwich, and it was good. I really liked my fries, but I was very jealous of the house fries my Mom and Mother-in-Law got. Those things were delicious. We enjoyed our meal, so thank you for filling our bellies before we went shopping. Prices were average. Bathrooms were clean. Parking is close. Service was just fine.

We stopped by during our visit and really enjoyed the menu here! Service was quick and attentive, the beer flavors were expansive, and the soup of the day (beef vegetable) was the best soup out I've had. Ambiance was chill and welcoming. Would definitely come back here on my next visit to town.

Visited for the first time during Oktoberfest so first of all my hats off to them especially the hostess as it was lunch time and slammed! It was a very hot day so unfortunately I wasn't in the mood for a big heavy traditional German meal as I would have hoped. Don't get me wrong it was available in the menu it was just a heat issue as I was also dining on the patio because I had my dog who was welcomed. I had the drunken schnitzel app as my meal and was very pleased with it. It was flavorful but I feel a gravy for dipping would really set this app off. The others in my party enjoyed their meals and Oktoberfest beer. My only suggestion would be during high traffic events such as Oktoberfest I would not offer the normal full menu rather utilize a limited special events menu to assist the overwhelmed kitchen and staff as well as greatly streamline and maximize table flipping without it being apparent to customers. Overall a nice experience and will return again during special events and less busier times

A fantastic selection of seasonal craft beers. Creative, German-inspired fare. Friendly, efficient service that never wavered. This review has been a longtime coming...I was over here for Oktoberfest. I was expecting to eat a big dinner, so I only wanted a snack for lunch. I elected the brat egg rolls. The menu indicates a curry ketchup as the dipping sauce, but I was able to procure some of the famous Amana mustard, a stone ground Dijon style mustard. The egg rolls had a good 50-50 balance and were fried to perfection. One of the many beers I had was the Farmer's Tan. For Central Iowa residents, it's very similar to the blood orange wheat at Reclaimed Rails in Bondurant. Zippy citrus, with nice wheat balance. Our server checked in with regularity and never made myself and my drinking companion feel rushed. Definitely worth a stop if you're visiting the Amana Colonies.

We were in main Amana for an event over the weekend and stopped by Millstream Bau Haus for lunch on our way out of town. We arrived shortly after the business opened at 1100 AM on Sunday morning. We were greeeted and seated almost immediately. The young lady who was our server... Fantastic from start to finish! Heather and I had looked at the Millstream Brau Haus menu online so, for the most part, we already knew what we were going to order. We ordered an appetizer of the spicy cheese curds (described on their menu as a mix of white cheddar ghost pepper and jalapeno cheddar), the hot chicken sandwich (with cottage cheese), and the cuban (side salad with blue cheese dressing) and a couple of drinks. The heat of the spicy cheese curds and the hot chicken sandwich are not for the faint of heart. Not your typical Iowa hot. Lol Let's talk about the cheese curds here though... OMG! I've never seen anything quite like them. Obviously large hand cut cubes, lightly breaded, and then fried. Little (not so little actually) blocks of molten cheese. These were unique and a stand out item. So good! if spicy isn't your thing... The cheese curds are also offered in regular or dill too. The sandwiches were top notch. Everything tasted greate and it was affordable! Definitely a great bang for your buck option place. Of course when you think the Amanas restaurants like the Ox Yolk Inn and the Ronneburg are what comes to mind, especially the old German style family dining, but don't skip over Millstream Brau Haus for a more casual meal... You won't be disappointed!

Met family halfway here for supper on Friday night and had a good time here. They had live music on the patio, but we chose to sit inside and had no wait. We got the cheese curds as an appetizer- not too greasy or battered! I ordered the chicken salad croissant with sweet potato fries. The sandwich had good flavor and texture. The sweet sauce that came with the fries was so good! I also like the German homestyle fries and the Millstream root beer. Service was quick and we had several people check in on us. If we are ever in Amana, we stop here!

Bellied up to the bar and grabbed lunch on an early September weekday. The bartender, Josh took great care of us. My wife got the burger sans bun, and added mushrooms for $1. I got 'The Kale', also a delicious burger with bacon and BBQ sauce. The beef was very tasty in not burgers. I got the German Home fries for my side-fantastic! My wife got the coke slaw-it was OK, but more of a bland version. Overall a great lunch with very reasonable beer and drink prices.

The patio is nice, great tables and the servers paid close attention to what we may want/need in the food realm. My friend got a Greek salad and really enjoyed it. I got a burger with BBQ sauce that was messy as all get out and so worth it. Got the dipping fries and willing to say I was really surprised with how tasty they were. They are unique too so maybe made in house. The jerks with two dogs, one was really aggressive trying to attack someone else's dog that was totally chill. That definitely means a deduction even though there were rules posted, it didn't seem the staff was going to bother and I get that it is pretty awkward. Seems like the staff would have to hear the ruckus cause the dogs were by the entrance to the place. The other folks took their dog back to the car. It was the sort of outward aggression that would make me wary if they are regulars. We had already ordered and gotten our food so we simply kept a watchful eye out.

We found a table, but then another person told us they had a waitlist, but then let us sit there. We waited awhile before anyone came to our table. Once we had a server, things went well.
