I came in as a new patient expecting the same care everyone should receive x-rays and a cleaning…read more Instead, I was told I needed a "prior authorization" before they would clean my teeth. I knew that wasn't true, and I confirmed with my insurance (DentaQuest) that no authorization was required. I filed a grievance and documented everything in case this office tries to bill for a cleaning they never did. No patient should ever be treated differently because of their insurance or the color of their skin. I feel I was treated this way because I have MassHealth/Medicaid, a low-subsidy insurance plan, and because I am a Black woman as if I was ignorant and wouldn't know better. I remained respectful and polite, but I will not return. If you are a person of color and have MassHealth, Medicaid, DentaQuest, any type of state or government insurance, please be cautious. In my experience, this office especially Dr lang will play in your face, deny you proper care, will bill you for services you never received. Patients deserve honesty and equal treatment, no matter their background or insurance.

PRO - Had two wisdom teeth removed and it went straight forward. To my surprise had minor swelling…read more Customer service given from the nurses / dental assistants were good. Actual dentist(s) are Asian and they don't speak much. Majority of the staff not including the actual dentist(s) are either Spanish or Brazilian. CON - Asian male customer service who works at the front desk could be a little more friendlier. Take his time to explain and don't speak sooo fast. I under that having to re-explain yourself several times because of language barrier can be FRUSTRATING but again your job is based on offering a good quality CUSTOMER SERVICE. I give them a 5 Star and would actually return again. Even if the dentist don't speak to me. Workmanship isn't based on how well you can speak!

Unfortunately the front desk personal Adriana loudly (and across the room with multiple patients there) stated I was uninsured and she was refusing to provide my services. I had to ask her to come over to me because I didn't feel comfortable with her shouting this across the room. I also carefully read the financial form which they had me sign and it stated they would bill for services and payment was required within 30 days. They refused to honor this despite having me sign this upon entry. When I pointed this policy out to Adriana she changed the wording to "insurance will be billed" and insisted I pay out of pocket in full right then. This experience was such a let down. Unfortunately they have changed and are no longer a helpful or polite or reliable dental provider. I would not advise that people go here.

It is very clear she hates her job as she rushes through exams and procedures. She recently performed a filling on me and she was the least gentle dentist I have ever encountered. She did not take the time to inform me of each step of the process like Dr. Dobrin had done with me in the past. She became annoyed rather than concerned when I asked her to pause due to discomfort and pain. She put so much pressure on my jaw that at points of the procedure, it was difficult to breathe. While I will miss my hygienist, Katie who is truly wonderful and is thorough with my cleanings I will be switching practices due to Dr. Choi.

I've been a patient of Porter Square Dental for about 10 years now! I have also had treatment at…read morethe Arlington Office. Mostly Dr. Sheehan has been my dentist, but I have also been treated by Dr. Perkins. They are both excellent dentists and kind, positive, gentle people, as is Tsewang, who has been my hygienist for all these years! The office staff (in particular, Leha) and assistants are also all super nice. I'm in my 60s and have to do some amount of "upkeep" to keep my teeth and gums in good shape (I also see a periodontist). I also have a history of panic attacks in medical and dental procedures (prior to visiting this practice), and it seems that, historically, I need a lot of local anaesthetic to get numb enough, especially when drilling is involved. Dr. Sheehan and Dr. Perkins are both very sensitive to this and stop if needed to administer more and wait till it takes effect. They also explain everything they are doing while working, in a gentle voice. In my experience, all the work they do is very thorough. Tsewang (hygienist) is very particular, thorough, and detail oriented in the cleaning, taking care to work below the gum line (because of my perio issues). I've had several crowns (and replacement crowns) over the years, and all have done well. I know what things will cost up front and have never had any issues with billing or charges, and to my memory, all of my appointments have been on time. I am so grateful to this practice for taking such good care of me and making my dental experiences as stress-free as possible!
