Besides all the usual service you'd expect from any PO, this one also sells gifts, souvenirs and postcards. The staff are pleasant and helpful as well. Parking is difficult outside as it's always busy there but you may find a space if you're lucky!

(I've walked there and back myself and even once was enough!!) The cost of building the church at first called a 'Chapel of Ease' was £629 and paid by the villagers and some of the worshippers in Largs. The builder was Alexander Hunter and the first minister the Rev. J. Gardner. The chapel later became a parish church after a petition which had been started in 1876. The famous yacht builder , Mr. W. Fife, was on the management committee of the church, hence the yacht weather vane on the top of the spire. There are sometimes charity events held in the church I attended a 'Fairtrade' evening there last winter which was well attended. (Fairlie was Scotland's first fairtrade village) In fact, there are regular meetings including every Thursday morning where people can meet to enjoy Fairtrade coffee, tea, cakes and biscuits together.

Good customer service can put a spring in the step of an otherwise drab day. Nothing cheers you up like being faced with a complete stranger who goes over and above their job requirements to be kind and helpful, simply because they want to make your day that bit easier. I was on the receiving end of such service last week, when I visited the post office on St Vincent Street to send a hideously stressful parcel of very important documents halfway across the world by parcel force priority. I was served by a man called Colin who was helpful and knowledgeable way beyond the call of duty, even though it was near closing time on a Friday. He made the situation much less stressful as a result. So Colin, I wish to thank you for taking pride in your job. Not being able to post my parcel, or doing it incorrectly, would have resulted in disastrous consequences. You can go to bed at night knowing you really have made a difference.

Now though, the post office is franchised to the Spar that it co-locates with. Result being, it's the Spar staff who now man the post office counter. Which is great. They know what they're doing and they're just plain nice whilst they're doing it! Not much else to say really, it sells stamps, takes in packages and does most of the range of post office services. No bureau de change though.

The West Nile Street post office is a medium sized, quite busy branch but I think they manage it…read moreok. There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.

Wonderful place to visit along with the other beautiful parts of Bute. We spent a while here…read morerecently, parking along at the end of the coast road near the bus turning bay, because there's no through road in the southern direction. It's so tranquil, just the sound of the water lapping against the rocks and some seagulls. There is a shingle beach (which includes some small coves), some areas of larger, coloured pebbles and smooth sandstone rocks. In warmer weather there are many butterflies which settle on flowers close to the shoreline. Great views across the Clyde too.

Excellent little post office/cafe/grocer,I've never seen such order and swift delivery of all sorts…read moreof hot and cold rolls ,great selection of tins,fabulous potatoes,local ones,if you think the butchers pies etc are expensive,get the bus intio town and buy them,2.90 return,people need to realise that small businesses like this need to actually make a profit,there's no excessive mark up,and lots of things,like my favourite tunnocks teacakes are the same price as the supermarket,in happy to support small business,,i always have,because they serve the communities,there's a lot of elderly people in Port Bannatyne,they are in at 8,30,the place is always nicely ticking over. The couple who run it are exceptionally polite ,the chap is an absolute gentleman,its also not a gossip shop,no crowds of locals lingering at the counter blething,service is polite,super efficient,fast,considering the size of it,there tskpbles outside looking out to the water,an atm,great coffee,this place was a lifeline for me during severe weather,being able to buy a sausage roll,a proper one,some bacon,eggs etc,was brilliant as I was very ill,indeed I ended up hospitalised with sepsis . I must finally mention surely the cheeriest ,most lovely assistant in the land,Andrea,she always looks son happy and genuinly pleased to see you whether your buying a paper,or spending a tenner,again,they don't want to know your life story,your gossip,sometimes it's the case that the places who appear friendly are actually anythun but,youl never get anything but polite ,efficient, old fashioned service Non I islanders,please note its half day here on Wednesday,close at 1pm. I love this Post Office it has to be one of the friendliest places around, in fact sometimes in…read morepassing, I feel like going to buy some stamps, just to have a blether with the staff. They always seem to be having a great time and I just don't know how they ever get any work done! They do all the obvious Post Office services: stamps, letters, parcels, giros, passports etc, plus they have a lovely little gift shop with genuinely nice bits of jewellery, ornaments, fancy bags etc, plus all the usual cards and wrapping paper. The only bad thing is that because it is a small shop, and it has a lot of stock, sometimes the queue for tha actual post office counter can make it a bit crowded and sweaty. However, that does not detract from a really lovely community type of place.
