Besides all the usual service you'd expect from any PO, this one also sells gifts, souvenirs and postcards. The staff are pleasant and helpful as well. Parking is difficult outside as it's always busy there but you may find a space if you're lucky!

Inside you'll often have to queue for a while but, when you get to the counter, the staff are friendly and very nice. This church was originally built in the early 1830s so that the villagers in Fairlie didn't have to…read moretravel to Largs and back a few miles' walk which many of them would have done twice a day on Sundays. (I've walked there and back myself and even once was enough!!) The cost of building the church at first called a 'Chapel of Ease' was £629 and paid by the villagers and some of the worshippers in Largs. The builder was Alexander Hunter and the first minister the Rev. J. Gardner. The chapel later became a parish church after a petition which had been started in 1876. The famous yacht builder , Mr. W. Fife, was on the management committee of the church, hence the yacht weather vane on the top of the spire. There are sometimes charity events held in the church I attended a 'Fairtrade' evening there last winter which was well attended. (Fairlie was Scotland's first fairtrade village) In fact, there are regular meetings including every Thursday morning where people can meet to enjoy Fairtrade coffee, tea, cakes and biscuits together.

A beautiful south-facing bay with lovely views over the River Clyde, the island of Little Cumbrae,…read morethe mountains of Arran and the Ayrshire hills. There is a long promenade and a sandy beach at Kames Bay in the east and a shingle beach at Newtown Bay in the west. The beach becomes rockier toward the pier where you can take a ferry across to Largs on the mainland. The water was at last given an 'excellent' status for swimming in 2007. It is a popular beach for families and there are attractive gardens, grassy areas and shops close at hand. A very pleasant place to take a walk or start to cycle around the island (you can hire one from Mapes in the row of shops which border the middle of the bay)

Now though, the post office is franchised to the Spar that it co-locates with. Result being, it's the Spar staff who now man the post office counter. Which is great. They know what they're doing and they're just plain nice whilst they're doing it! Not much else to say really, it sells stamps, takes in packages and does most of the range of post office services. No bureau de change though.

The West Nile Street post office is a medium sized, quite busy branch but I think they manage it…read moreok. There are three sets of service desks: Self-service, business, travel and everything else. I forget how they labelled this one but it seemed to be for just regular non-business customers. There was a long queue when I arrived but they cleared it pretty quickly, I don't think I waited as much as five minutes to post my parcel. The staff member helping me was friendly and helpful enough although not very on the ball. He did try to sell me a credit card which I've not seen before but maybe this is a new thing to try to get the Post Office to make more money. They also have some stationary and bits and pieces on sale, things like jiffy bags and bubble wrap and they're advertising a deak at the moment where you can get cheap travel insurance when you get your travel money with them. It's handy enough if you're in the city centre but it's a little but chaotic and I suspect at peak times those queues get really long.

A lovely wide and soft, sandy, beach which is over a mile long and safe for swimming or walking…read more There are picnic areas and many benches along the promenade and marvellous views across the River Clyde to Arran, Aisa Craig and Kintyre. Plenty of parking spaces in the huge car park. It's not far to walk into the town from here and the nearby harbour is also a pleasant place to visit for a stroll (or a sail if you have a boat)!
