We spent a pleasant few hours in Lincoln well walking up the hill wasn't pleasant but still!…read more Hungry by the time we got to the top we spotted this clean, contemporary restaurant. We didn't notice the menu outside said that the lunch menu was only available from Sun-Thurs. On looking at the A la Carte menu, we blanched as it was very expensive! However, an extra star was earned because the waitress checked with the manager and said we could access the special menu. This was very considerate, but I think they need to address this issue as two more people walked in and walked out ; I can only assume for the same reason. That said, the food was lovely. I had a filled crepe, tasty and hot and my companions both had the whitebait which was delicious. They would have had 4 stars but sadly there was only one high chair which was occupied when we went in. By the time it became free our youngest member had had enough and we had to take turns taking her outside to save the ears of the other diners! Recommended highly and I think an evening meal there may well be one to remember! xx

However i'm always surprised how quiet this restaurant is though, as the food is amazing. Only minor complaint I have is the chef seems a little heavy handed with the salt on the main courses. Even so highly recommended as it is rather unique in Lincoln.

This has definitely been my best culinary experience during my entire stay in Lincoln…read more.. "The Old Bakery" caught my eye on my first day when I was casually strolling through Lincoln; I was determined to give it a try - not only because of all the dining award stickers on the outside, but also, by the rustic and quaint interior. No sooner thought than done, myself and a couple of friends came here for dinner and let me tell you about our epicurean journey: Two of us had the "Peter Lundgren", which is a slowly roasted deboned pork 'chop'... it was embedded on a cushion of cinnamon-spiced cabbage and served along with tasty young potatoes. The meat was delicious and it was so soft that it fell apart in my mouth...and it was where a hint of fennel seeds unfolded its magic. For dessert, I had the pistacchio creme brulee, which also was fantastic - I felt like I was eating rich pistacchio gelato in an Italian town, only that it was covered with a crust of delicious caramelized sugar. On top of these two fabulous dishes, we also indulged in a series of freebies: home-made bread, amuse bouches, pre-dessert amuse bouches and even a post-dessert chocolate treat served along with the bill! However, I also do have to agree with the previous writer - Phil C. - that there is quite a gap between the quality of the food and the quality of the service. In fact, I was really quite disappointed by the service as it was in such stark contrast with the food: how can the food be so delicious, but the people serving it so non-compassionate and un-enthusiastic about their food? I don't expect an expert-waiter to tell me everything about the food, but I would appreciate someone who is in tune with the guests and can attend to their wishes... Anyway, I still recommend you come here...in fact, I would propose to make a visit during lunch time as they have some nice specials that are much more reasonably priced. Having said that, the food here is not cheap...but I was more than willing to pay the extra price, especially after all the other average and mediocre experiences over the past few days: in other words, I have truly enjoyed my visit to "The Old Bakery".

Food is of a very high standard and cooked by an Italian chef. The restaurant is very popular and can be booked up for a month or so in advance. They have won many awards by the normal awarding bodies like the AA and enjoy England. They have their fingers crossed to get a Michelin rating in January. Rooms are available and quite reasonably priced. The owner is always wandering around and keen to chat with customers.
