This has definitely been my best culinary experience during my entire stay in Lincoln... "The Old Bakery" caught my eye on my first day when I was casually strolling through Lincoln; I was determined to give it a try - not only because of all the dining award stickers on the outside, but also, by the rustic and quaint interior. No sooner thought than done, myself and a couple of friends came here for dinner and let me tell you about our epicurean journey: Two of us had the "Peter Lundgren", which is a slowly roasted deboned pork 'chop'... it was embedded on a cushion of cinnamon-spiced cabbage and served along with tasty young potatoes. The meat was delicious and it was so soft that it fell apart in my mouth...and it was where a hint of fennel seeds unfolded its magic. For dessert, I had the pistacchio creme brulee, which also was fantastic - I felt like I was eating rich pistacchio gelato in an Italian town, only that it was covered with a crust of delicious caramelized sugar. On top of these two fabulous dishes, we also indulged in a series of freebies: home-made bread, amuse bouches, pre-dessert amuse bouches and even a post-dessert chocolate treat served along with the bill! However, I also do have to agree with the previous writer - Phil C. - that there is quite a gap between the quality of the food and the quality of the service. In fact, I was really quite disappointed by the service as it was in such stark contrast with the food: how can the food be so delicious, but the people serving it so non-compassionate and un-enthusiastic about their food? I don't expect an expert-waiter to tell me everything about the food, but I would appreciate someone who is in tune with the guests and can attend to their wishes... Anyway, I still recommend you come here...in fact, I would propose to make a visit during lunch time as they have some nice specials that are much more reasonably priced. Having said that, the food here is not cheap...but I was more than willing to pay the extra price, especially after all the other average and mediocre experiences over the past few days: in other words, I have truly enjoyed my visit to "The Old Bakery". read more

An excellent restaurant, well worth visiting. This is a higher end restaurant and probably more for a special occasion than a regular place to eat. Food is of a very high standard and cooked by an Italian chef. The restaurant is very popular and can be booked up for a month or so in advance. They have won many awards by the normal awarding bodies like the AA and enjoy England. They have their fingers crossed to get a Michelin rating in January. Rooms are available and quite reasonably priced. The owner is always wandering around and keen to chat with customers. read more

Hmm. tough one this- the food is outstanding. Probably the best food in Lincoln BUT the staff are pompous and that really puts me off. Nice building and interior is good but again, something is not quite right- no atmosphere especially in the conservatory bit (and it's cold in there too!) The menu is limited and could do with being more kind of 'bistro' - there is a massive obsession with cheese in there too!!! read more

Having booked online through the old bakery Lincoln website for my dinner date with my husband, we arrived very excited as The Old bakery is one of the best places to eat In Lincoln {apparently}. The trouble is we wouldn't know because we arrived at 7 :15pm.. 15 minutes before our table was booked {7:30pm}{ 5th August 2016 only to arrive to a locked door with no lights on ... in fact no life at all... ! I have a confirmation email when I had booked my table on the day that I booked my table plus two further notifications during the day to remind me of my reservation... not sure what happened but I know for sure that this has tainted my view of what could have been a pleasant experience... read more

History
Established in 2004.
Lincoln's award winning 4 star premier restaurant currently holds 2 AA rosettes, received a Toptable Gold Award for the second year running, features in the Hardens 2009 guide in the category of 'Commended' and is included in The Good Food Guide 2010. The business had previously been run solely as bed and breakfast premises, but with a major refurbishment of the kitchens and ground floor, the premises opened its doors as a forty-five seater restaurant on Thursday, 2nd December 2004, in time for the Christmas festivities, parties and New Year celebrations. Work was completed during December 2007 to create a fully air conditioned garden under glass at the rear of the premises. This has increased the total covers in the restaurant to approx. 85 and has effectively reduced our waiting list.
