What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.

The drive to the restaurant was lovely and scenic, going down dark and winding country roads until suddenly we drive around a corner and The Devonshire Arms appeared! We'd got there a little early and we sat down by the bar for some drinks. The menu was displayed on a chalkboard by the seating area and it all looked yummy! The dining area was quite small but very nice and cosy. The kitchen was open and you could see the chefs chopping and cooking away which I quite liked. I chose the rabbit and pheasant terrine with grape chutney as my starter; it came with onion bread and the slice of terrine was huge! I really wanted to finish it, but I couldn't as there was no way I'd be have enough room for my main! For the main, I had venison steak served with new potatoes (usually served with mash which I couldn't have as it had milk/cream in it) and braised red cabbage. The steak was pink and cooked to perfection and the red cabbage was sweet but with a little tart edge to it. I didn't have a dessert but the rest of the party did - my boyfriend had a deconstructed banana cheesecake and his sister had a brownie (I overheard her saying it was the best brownie she'd ever tasted!). All of the staff were really nice, especially the lady who served us that night, she was really lovely and very attentive. The Devonshire Arms fully deserves it's awards and hope it gets more in the future. If you're ever around the Sheffield area and want to venture out of the city centre for some food make sure you come here. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect meal.

As soon as I placed the order the person who served me took a piece of cod from the heated area, put it in a container with the chips and placed this item on top of the heated section. Following this she requested that the Scampi be cooked. Some time later, when the scampi was ready and served with chips, she took the cod and chips from the top of the counter and put it in a bag with the Scampi and chips/ When I got home the Cod and chips were cold and I could not eat it. According to your website all fish is cooked to order. The cod that I bought clearly was not. This is the first time that this has happened at your establishment. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. If this happens again I will stop using Elite.

We were driving through Sleaford on the way home and came across this place and had a takeaway. Why only 3 stars that will become apparent........ The fish is freshly cooked for you so you have to order when you arrive to get things moving and cooked. This is good, it shows that they aren't going to serve fish that could have been hanging around. They had an offer on at this place which was kids eat free - excellent! The t&c's were you ordered an adult meal and the kids meal came free. I think this was an offer at this place as it has recently opened. I was asked if I wanted the fish separately from the chips; I thought this was a good idea as the fish can go soggy sitting in the chips sometimes. The items were placed in separate polystyrene containers and then wrapped in paper. This all helped in my opinion to not have soggy chips etc, so far do good ! We got home, which is about 12 minutes away. The fish was excellent and I really do mean that. We recently ate at the award winning fish and chip shop in Whitby, Yorks and they were very good and in personal opinion this fish was as good if not slightly better, it tasted very fresh and had good texture and a really good taste. The batter was not greasy and it was still crispy. Unfortunately there was a downside to the meal, the chips were slightly hard. The first few I had I would say were firm but after consulting the wife for her opinion it became apparent that they were hard and not really edible. This was a shame as they were not at all greasy, which I find is a problem with takeaway chips sometimes. We had gravy, curry sauce and peas; these were average. The best curry sauce I've had is from a F&C shop in Grantham and this stuff didn't touch that, there was nothing wrong with it but it was nothing special. Staff all looked clean and tidy, the chef in charge appeared to be running things efficiently (apart from the chip situation). I've given 3 stars as the chips were an integral part to the meal and they were a let down. I will eat at this place again and if the chip situation changes I will up the mark to 4 stars. It should have been 4 stars today!!!
