I explained that my throttle dashboard light came on, and Charlton said I might need the $70.00 diagnostic test to turn it off and determine the throttle problem. Charlton also asked me about the size of my engine. I scheduled an appointment and canceled it because the throttle light went out. Perhaps it was the below-freezing temperature and my attempt to drive my vehicle without sufficiently warming it up that prompted the throttle light to come on, I will definitely contact C & A when my vehicle does need servicing. I appreciated the messaging that helped me determine what my vehicle needed. What's valuable? The excellent customer service in fielding my throttle concerns is worth noting.

Sure, they did quality work, but they have this habit of just doing the work and then slapping you with the bill once it's done. Talk about sticker shock. Now my family added an e36 m3 and I moved on to an e36 325 (all of which we continued to service at Jack's), and this seems to have gotten a bit worse (as in, taken advantage of for being a kid). My parents just picked up my car with some basic work and parts (which I know I paid about 20% more for through the shop), and the charges were ridiculous. They charge more an hour than my Mother does as a doctor in her own practice. Sheer robbery.. Unless you have money to spend and absolutely need the best, you are better off with a more reasonable independent servicer, or for the money just go right to the stealership.

What I assume to be the owner was one of the rudest people I have encountered in a long time. Here is what happened.... I got a flat tire on my way home from work today. I stopped along 441 in Marietta and put the "dummy tire" on so I could get home to Bainbridge. While driving I figured I might as well stop by a garage and get the tire plugged so that I could put the normal tire back on tonight. I pulled into C&J at about 5:25 and walked up to the office door, but there was no one in the office. Both of the bay doors were open (and I could hear someone talking) so I slowly walked into the first bay, yelled "Hello", and looked to see if I could find someone to help me with my tire (which is about a 5 minute job by the way). I was greeted with "What the hell do you think you are doing walking around in my shop?!?". I tried to explain that I heard someone talking so I was walking in to talk to them when I was interrupted with "GET OUT!! GET OUT!! and him pointing towards the door I had just came through. Once I walked out of the door I turned to ask if there was any way I could get help with getting my tire plugged. I was told, "I'm closed, it's after 5:00, don't come back here unless it is between 7:00 - 5:00."

I was very impressed by their customer service. Katie & Steve were both friendly and easy to work with. One thing I appreciated was that I called on a Wednesday morning to get an update on the car. Steve told me they were still waiting on a part and wasn't sure of the timing. He then emailed me that night to confirm it would be done Thursday. On Thursday Katie called me in the morning to let me know it was in the last stages of being put back together, and then called again to confirm it was done and ready for pickup. They also washed the car for us! I also felt their prices were fair. My regular mechanic gave me a ballpark estimate on what I could expect to pay for this repair (based on what they'd seen another body shop charge). Barton's price was better than that, so I felt I paid a fair price. While I hope I never need to go to a body shop again, I would definitely go back to Barton's.
