My husband and I go quite often but it was our friends first visit. In October I rang to book a table for 10/12/16. Something came up and so I rang to change the booking for last night. We paid 8.00 for a taxi and arrived 15 mins early for our table. We were all hungry and looking forward to the steaks. On arrival we waited a few mins before we were welcomed by a gentleman who asked if he could help. We said we had a table booked. He could not find the booking. I explained that I had changed the date, so he looked at the 10th and my booking was still there. No bar meals were being served, the restaurant was full and so was the cabaret lounge. It was 8pm on a cold wintery evening and the gentleman could offer us nothing. I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager. He didn't offer us the taxi fare, a drink or anything in way of apology for his staffs error. Not very good customer service, is it Liam? Loyal customers are the ones you should want to keep happy, not send away angry.

There is a separate dining area at the back if you want a more á la carte dining experience. The bar has recently been refurbished and really looks the part. There's lots of quiet alcoves and intimate seating areas. This makes it a more enjoyable place to have a drink rather than some of the more crowded, rowdy bars in the area. It's also a good place to hold a function or to meet up for a few drinks prior to heading off to an event. Recommended if you're in the area and want to avoid South Road.

Billed as 'Southport's premier seafood and steak restaurant', it would be easy to miss Forge…read moreBrasserie as it is rather hidden down a tiny side street off Eastbank Street. However, those brave enough to go down the pokey back road its on will find themselves rewarded with a lovely dining experience, complimented by helpful and friendly waiting staff as well as delicious cooking using locally grown ingredients. As I said, Forge advertise themselves primarily as a fish restaurant, so it's no surprise to find their menu dominated by fish and other seafood dishes. I'm not a big fan of seafood generally but I love fish and have found some of the dishes at Forge are both interesting and tasty, such as the halibut steak and the grilled Dover sole, which although expensive is worth the price. Aside from seafood and fish dishes, their meat menu is similarly impressive as it boasts a good variety of options including roast duck as well as a good range of different steaks. The restaurant may not be in the best location in Southport but it's worth putting that to one side and giving Forge a go, particularly if you're a seafood and fish fan.

You'll get lovely traditional Brit food in here as well as a fantastic variety of very fresh seafood. In fact the catches of the day are available to view in an open fridge, and that ambience of openness continues right through to the open kitchen where you can see the dishes being created. The prices are really reasonable, especially if you take advantage of some of the special offers, and the service is lovely. But even though it's something of a concealed weapon be sure to book in advance. The place is nicely bustling even during the day and it's more than popular, so be careful!

We got to Parbold a little early and decided to walk from the station up the hill to the restaurant. Potentially not he best idea in the inclement weather, but he views are spectacular and we certainly worked up an appetite. When we arrived we were still a little early for our reservation so we were given a pager and grabbed a drink to sit the comfy bar area. While Miller and Carter is part of a small chain I feel like this one is quite special because of its location and the beautiful views all around. I can imagine it being beautiful in theirs outdoor area with firepit on a dusky summer evening. Our pager went off and we were taken to our table, which was next to the window so we could keep enjoying the views. Scallops with chorizo and the Bourbon glazed chicken were our starters, with fillet steak and a big old sirloin for our mains. Both came with a lettuce wedge salad, chips, steak sauce (with a really great range to choose from - I'd recommend the rich bordelaise) and their own recipe onion loaf which was a total taste revelation. We also opted for the bourbon glazed purple carrots and a rather nice bottle of Malbec to wash it all down. The staff were wonderful and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. We'll definitely be back, and will also be trying out their more conventionally located branch in Leeds.
