And this…read moreseems the place to get some good stuff, so we had a quick drive and were lucky to catch one of the very few parkings spaces here at the port. Got a bunch of fresh oysters, some crab meat and some shrimp. The oyster of course we ate right away. The shrimp and the crab meat we've had for dinner later that day. Quality was great. Fresh, smooth and creamy oysters. The crab meat was lovely sweet, full of flavours. With the shrimp we made some tasty seafood dip. Really a nice place to grab some fresh and tasty seafood. Friendly people, fair prices.

Apparently the only mussels traditionally fished in the UK are raked by these guys! You can…read morepreorder fish and shellfish online, or if you're a tourist like me you can buy from the Ready-to-Eat selection at the counter. They're tiny pots of unseasoned boiled and chilled seafood from about 2.5-4£ a pot depending on whether it's prawns, mussels, cockles, whelks, crayfish, etc. Perfectly size for sampling if you can't commit or want to sample them all. There are condiments available for you to season after, but I prefer to eat them as-is, since plain boiled fresh seafood is already have their own briny flavor. Provided are forks, toothpicks, salt, pepper, mayo, Marie Rose sauce (ketchup mayo).

I'm often a little scared of eating in hotel restaurants as I've mentioned before, sometimes…read morebecause they can be pretty bad, and sometimes because they can be pretty expensive. This one smashed both those assumptions. It was good, and it was remarkably cheap. The decor is really rather elegant and delightfully sophisticated, and you're located on the seafront so when you walk out onto the terrace you actually see a marvellous view of the beach and smell the sea air. The menu changes occasionally but there's a nice emphasis on seafood due to its proximity to la mer and the calamari is light and lovely, highly recommended for any fish lovers. There are some veggie options and not just your usual pasta or bake, they really do try and be a little more creative here, steaks are superb for the carnivores and get very high accolades and for puds you can't go wrong with their failsafe crème brulee. Just perfect. Oh and I measure a good restaurant on the state of its chips. These ones were thick cut and crisp and yummy. Wines are nicely varied and even more nicely priced and by the end of the meal I wasn't overfazed; the portions are just about perfect and I was happy enough. Plus if you happen to like the restaurant enough to want to spend the night in the hotel, the rooms, even the luxury ones, don't break the bank. How do they do it? Only in Southport, eh. Still, credit where credit's due, I wouldn't mind waking up to a sparkly sea view with a surprisingly full purse. All round excellence, I'd say.

All aboard marines!!!!!!! Ramada plaza stayers will know of this place indeed. With 80 covers this…read moreis a decent sized restaurant indeed. The sun terrace is a good pull for the place in the summer, with incredible views overlooking the Marine Lake and The Irish Sea. The menu offers a decent selection of dishes, from snacks to main meals and the food is reasonably priced. Some of the options include locally cured lamb in a Lancashire hotpot, black pudding with bacon and soft deep fried poached egg, a selection of grill steaks, burgers, beer battered cod and Goosnargh smoked pork belly. Your bog standard stuff really if I'm being honest. Although I must say I can't really see too many non residents dining here, Southport is teaming with top quality restaurants. By all means when in Romeada sure, but other wise?? Me thinks, perhaps nay!!
