I've been a photographer for 16 years this past march. NEVER have I worked with a more entitled DJ than the douche bag that worked Victoria and Bobs wedding at Andres west this past weekend. Let me start by saying I worked with millennium productions back in the day, there was one person that was high while working a wedding at Jefferson Underground - but he still got it together and did the job he needed to do. THIS DUDE was a classic old white guy. Entitled, rude, misogynist. To the point he let us know we weren't allowed to go get food until we waited for the brides parents (I already knew this my man) to go through the line. The Wedding Party was already up there. I thought he was the venue owner, NOPE turns out just an entitled DJ. OH And the bride's parents were right next to us.. He just wanted to boss my second photographer around. Fast forward to me letting him know we were 'off the clock' until 7:05. (I don't charge my clients for my break, It isn't part of the contracted coverage, and it's in our contract) I told him not to start anything until 7:05. He then went up to the brides dad and asked if they wanted to get started. Then told me it was the brides dad's Idea to start at 7pm. I didn't have my triggers or my lights on as I power down for dinner break. He told me he'd been a DJ for (Too long) X years and he never had a photographer tell him he couldn't start when he wanted to. He said he didn't work for me. THEN because he started before the venue was ready as well - the head table didn't have champagne. I talked to the managers at Andres and they were upset too. The planner I worked with Jamie said he also told her he doesn't work for her (She was trying to coordinate the mess of the evening that was about to unfold.) This dinosaur then ignored the timeline the planner had made, started randomly planning things. He did the speeches right after dinner at 7pm, when the timeline had it for 7:30. (There's also the fun layer of him telling me to 'calm down' and not to get so emotional.. Which honestly made me almost laugh, because I wasn't upset until he said that.) I decided not to talk to him the rest of the evening, because this day wasn't about me. I just let random events happen and would have to run to try to catch things (I went outside to get a battery from my car for example .. I was gone for two minutes.) And he played the ice cream song so the couple could feed each other ice cream from scoop and sling, I ran in and had to use an on camera flash because I had to run over to them. He never did an anniversary dance. Didn't check in with the bride and groom about a last dance of the night with their outfit change "Last DANCE" they had a big party song that was supposed to happen at 10pm to end the night and it never happened.. etc.. the list goes ON and on. AND I QUOTE "I DONT WORK FOR YOU" ... no that's true... but we should all be on the same team. And you sir are not a team player. I asked him if he had been married, that communication is important and if the speeches were to shift to 7pm, he should have told everyone on the team that the shift was happening. He said he had been married twice... I said "oh that makes sense" and he said " what does that mean" ... and honestly if I have to explain it... I can't help you. NO communication. Massively entitled... and frankly should retire. When you've hit this point of lack of caring... you shouldn't be working something as important as weddings. Communication and douche-bagness aside, the DJ's speakers had some really bad kick back, and the bride DURING HER FIRST DANCE WITH HER HUSBAND said " what is that sound?"
