I've been going to Millbrae Nails for more than 5 years. It started as a walk in and then I became a regular. Tina is the best! She's often booked solid and in advance so I learned to do the same. Its was terrible during the beginning of the pandemic but the owner, Tammy, took all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the clients as well as her staff. Sadly a majority of her staff did not return when she was able to reopen. Thankfully Tina returned and remains as a steadfast and valued staff. This place is god awful. My toe nails are all completely crooked and the owner rushed the pedicure. The "massage" was no more than 2 minutes of rubbing some weird oil on my legs. She wouldn't even let me sit in the chair while the nail polish dried even though the place was empty. I'm going to have to fix it when I get home, so I just wasted $36 dollars. read more

After an hour and a half the nail tech tells me that they can't give me the design I want which is hearts. Fully frustrated because I showed them what I wanted and they said they could do it. They gave me a blob that was supposed to be a heart? They also were gonna leave my nails at different lengths if I didn't bring up to them that my pinkies were not the same length. I don't get mani-pedis often but enough to know what to expect. I called beforehand just to see if they were busy and they said they weren't and to just come on in. Once I got there, I told them that I had just called and that I wanted to get a french mani-pedi with gel on my handsies. There was no one in the store at the time so I got all the necessary attention, which I love. When the lady finished my pedicure, which are perf btw, she helped me put on my flip flops and I thought that was very nice of her! :) She didn't mess up my toenails or anything! Lol I then moved on to the manicure station where the guy, which is the owner's brother, helped me out. It was my first time getting a gel mani and I srsly am in love with them. In the end, I do love my nails but I had to pay $65 which I think is super over priced... $40 for my mani and $25 for my pedi... hmm. I walked out happy but I'm sure there are cheaper places... It's pretty clean inside and they were very nice and made sure that I was comfortable. Easy to start conversations so it's not like they're awkward or anything lol. I received a gift certificate last Christmas for this place and finally remembered to come use it. I told them I wanted the same color I had on and they just pointed me to the area where the nail polish was. Alrighty. I must have spent at least 15 minutes looking through all the colors and trying them on my finger nails. I used up 7 nails (haha) with multiple colors on each nail and still couldn't find the color. By then, they got fed up and finally realized I needed help and found a combo of two colors that got pretty close to the color I had on. They could have offered to help at the beginning. The lady who helped me wasn't attentive at all. It felt like she was just going through the motion with each toe. It also hurt when she was removing my cuticles. I know some pedicure experiences may not always be pleasant, but it should never hurt this bad. read more

After a couple of visits, I'm feeling comfortable going here with my daughter. They always take a long time to do my manicure and pedicure, but I'm usually there on a Friday so I'm in no hurry anyway. My pedicure usually lasts for about three weeks, or less since I'm usually swimming and scratching them up myself. I always ask them to buff shine my fingernails which they do a fine job on. Just a tip, they will charge you a couple of bucks for the buffing block, but bring it with you next time for them to reuse it if you're looking for just natural shiny nails. I really like this place because it's one of the few good nail salons in my neck of the woods. They are very patient when it come to remove the gel. The manicurist cover your fingertips in acetone-soaked cotton pads, wrap them with foil, and leave you to sit for 10 to 30 minutes. The gel looks almost melted when it's ready. Then she gently nudges the gel away. She applies the new gel so evenly, but not too thick. read more

The lady who did my nails - forget her name - did not know how to properly apply gel polish nor apply acrylic on a broken nail. Another lady who was "more experienced" did the acrylic and based on the pictures, it's horrendous. I called 2 days later but no one returned my call. I m still having her do my nails while writing this review. This place doesnt have any customers service at all. She is sanding off my gel nail top while i m picking out color. She yell at my cuz i m moving my hand. She said i need to stay still while she is sanding my top coat. Its not like i m moving my whole body, i m just moving my opposite hand with little motion. I'm actually really conflicted on how to rate this place. The place is slightly crowded and they are only 6 chairs for pedis and about 3 stations for manis. I went there a just a few days ago to get my nails done. I was greeted warmly at the door and was told to pick out a color. One i was seated, they screamed across the room as asked if i wanted a manicure as well. I let it go even though there were other guests there. I have never experience such aftershock pain. As you know, they have that clipper thing for the side of your fingers and nipping away excess skin. Instead, my pedicurist dug hers right into my toe (the big toe) to cut and to shape my toes. I screamed out "OW OW OW" but she didn't say anything until blood started oozing out. I saw her cart and it had two bottle of antiseptic sprays. If you've been working there a while, I assume you don't need two bottles of spray. However, this "cut" wasn't only to one of my toes, it was to the other one as well. THey are currently super pink and sensitive, and its so sad, cause I would have rated them slightly higher, but this is ridiculous. This place last professionalism, they answer their phones in the middle of cutting my nails, and leave to go get a few bites to eat behind the curtains. I CAN SEE YOU, and you have rice on your face. It is somewhat clean and bearable. However, there was an upside to this visit. I'm one of those extreme ticklish people and foot massages are one of those things i will squeal and flinch when it happens. This foot massage was probably the best i ever had without me flinching more than ever. She also took her time and scrubbed and exfoliated my feet which I longed for, she literally soften half of my callous and removed LAYERS of dead and dry skin. However, all that scrubbing made my skin all dry. UPDATE: (3.14.2010) i finally removed the paint, which apparently chips of quite easily because i realized that the coats were blotchy and uneven. i saw the uneven clippings of my toenails and didn't really smooth out the edges. read more

But anyways, I came in one day after getting coaxed by my sister because she'd broken up with her boyfriend again. I've been going to Millbrae Nails for a year now, and I am so pleased with their services. I get a manicure, french pedicure, eyebrow and upper lip wax, and bikini and full leg wax. The owner does a wonderful job with the waxings (especially eyebrows) and Tina and Jeni give the best manicures and pedicures - and that includes hand, arm, foot and lower leg massages that are absolutely excellent. The best part is their prices! You get quality work for a reasonable price. When this chic nail shop opened up a few years ago down the street from my house it was like a breath of fresh air amongst the other grungy (or extremely overpriced) nail salons in Millbrae. My first few experiences (back in 2009/2010) were fine...nothing too memorable but not horrible either. Then I moved away and found a gem of a nail salon in Berkeley...but I'll leave that for another review. And alas, I'm back in Millbrae and needed my nails done. I was sooo looking forward to a pedicure that ended up being terrible. I waited, and waited, even though I had an appointment and was one of two people in the salon, and then as soon as the woman started my pedicure she seemed to be in a huge rush. The water was cold even though I asked several times for them to make it warmer. Nails chipped the next day. Boo. The two stars are solely for Sammi who does a FANTASTIC job with acrylic nails. I am so happy she moved here from her previous salon in San Mateo and highly recommend her quality work. Don't only take my word for it though, she gets booked up quickly!! I take this as a sign of other people recognizing her talent and deal with it by booking at least a week in advance. Millbrae Nails is very clean and they are very nice. I get Gels and they always make them look nice and natural and not too thick. They end every treatment with a hand massage and a hot towel wrap. SALON OWNER ADMITS TO DOING SHOTTY WORK. I went there wanting to use a salon in my new neighborhood. I am not new to having my nails done. The owner did french tips for me. I should have known I was in trouble when walk in client, after walk in client left in a huff because the simple question; "How long is the wait?" was simply ignored. My nails seemed fine, a little thick and square but okay. Later, I did notice they were lifting early.. I went in today to have them filled and the one that popped off replaced, and was told I needed a whole new set and that it was a bad job. I told her she personally did them 2.5 weeks ago.. She flat-out denied having done my nails over and over again, making snide remarks in Korean or whatever they speak to the girl next to her.. When I asked both of them if they remembered me, they said no. It's bad enough that she thinks her own work is bad, but to call me a liar? They can go to H, E double hockey sticks.. I will not darken their doorstep again. Do yourself a favor. With so many good salons to choose from.. when you see this one, just keep walking. read more

I came here a few times after they remodeled.. Place looks nice and they usually take you pretty quickly even if you're just walking in. My first time was lovely.. they weren't crowded and took their time with me. The girls were sweet and joked around. When they finished painting my nails, they asked if I wanted to stay in the massage chair to dry and continue reading the latest OK gossip, instead of moving over to the UV dryer. This was appreciated as I like to relax and not feel rushed. ... Every time since, it seems busier and the quality drops. They also try selling me random things like when I'm getting massaged. "Ahh.. you like that? You like massage? You want 15 mins? I give very good massage." Umm.. I'm enjoying my complimentary massage just fine thank you very much. "Oh you like french tip? French tip will look very nice on your pretty nails." Hmm.. no thanks I'll stick with my hot hooker red. I hate getting the guy that works there too. Yikes came here after a long day to get a regular pedicure done. Came at around 5PM and they close 7PM, so it wasn't near closing. Have no idea why but the lady who was doing my nails was rushing with the job and I started bleeding because she was too speedy and wasn't careful enough. Didn't scold her about it or make any negative comments because honestly, what can she do about it now? She finished the job and after my nails tried I proceeded to pay and they still charged me $20 full price for the pedicure. I know $20 isn't a lot, but customer service should always come first! I think I should've been charged less, and given a small discount of at least 20% because now my pedicure is adorned with dried blood. Not gonna recommend this place and I would suggest going to V & V nails a block over or Four Seasons Nails, which by the way has slightly lower costs and way better customer service. read more
