So excited to finally stop into Milkbar! The name itself totally draws me in. I went in on a Wednesday night around 8pm. There were a couple families there together and us. Shortly after we got our order though the line grew to probably 12ish people. The menu is huge! When an employee asked if we had been there before and we said no he happily came around to our side of the counter to walk us through the options. The main choices on their menu are ice cream, milk, or cereal. Each are available with different mix-ins and (ice cream and cereal only) unlimited toppings. The cereal mixes didn't really appeal to me, but I really wanted to try just about every ice cream and milk tea available. Like any good ice cream place, they have a variety of fruity, chocolatey, minty, caramel, etc options. I decided to hold off on the milk until next time and get an ice cream. I could decided between the campfire (s'mores style) or the mango madness so I had the cashier choose for me. Mango madness it was. My freshly made, ROLLED ice cream was ready in just a few minutes. I asked for a vanilla wafers, strawberry, and just a few mango bobas to top it off. This was my first experience with rolled ice cream and it was great! It was very fresh and creamy with the perfect amount of small mango bits worked in. I really liked the texture. It was light but still feel indulgent, like a real treat. I also am now a huge fan of mango popping bobas, as in the past I've been afraid to try it because I knew I didn't like traditional boba. This place is definitely pricey at over $14 for my husband and I together. We don't get out much anymore though, so I was happy to treat myself this particular night. The staff was super enthusiastic when I walked in and excitedly told me about what all Milk Bar offers. There's not only boba drinks but rolled ice cream (with all the fix-in's your heart desires/that fits in the cup) and make-your-own cereal bowls. What I was after however was a refreshing drink - which is was how I was introduced to the milk cap tea....basically tea with a layer of milk thats salty but also sweet... Does it sound a little weird? Ya. Is it delicious? Absolutely. What's it like? I had the Jasmine Tea Milk Cap with boba pearls. You could sip the tea with the long straw and get the deliciously floral tea. Or sip from the top and taste the milk cap which tastes like mild salted caramel cheesecake. I would however consider myself an expert in seeking out delicious food and WOW did Milk Bar exceed my expectation. The shop itself is small, sleek, and clean. The menu is displayed on a huge chalk board wall, which is nice because you can read it and start deciding what you want while you're waiting in line. The staff is friendly and seemed happy to give guidance for those who weren't sure what they wanted. If I lived in the area, I could totally see myself stopping in with my laptop t grab some delicious bubble tea and get some work done. I had the strawberry matcha bubble tea with tapioca bubbles and it was INSANE! My mind was blown because, how can something be so flavorful and delicious?! Seriously. It was certainly sweet, but not overpowering so. The strawberry flavor was there, but it also let the matcha shine. And, even though I'm no tapioca bubble expert, they were the perfect texture for me because they didn't melt or get too gooey as I sipped on it throughout my long drive home (even though I had to exercise some serious self control not to slurp the entire thing down in a few minutes). It is time...to drop a review! It is my new boba spot. I have one other one, but it is a bit of a drive from us. Being from California...I know my boba lol Not only does this place do boba, but it also does rolled ice cream, cereal, and just added some type of pudding (still need to try). I have enjoyed coming here not only for the treats, but also the customer service. They always greet you, take the time to speak with you, go over the menu...just gives you a mom and pop feel. They have tons of options of everything: ice cream, toppings, boba, and tea flavors. Something that is new to me is the milk cap. My go-to drink is the strawberry/match tea combo with the milk cap. It is like a little piece of heaven has fallen onto your tea. The milk cap has a dense, rich cheesecake flavor. I recently switched over to the jasmine tea with the jasmine milk cap and still super tasty. It adds a bit of sweetness without being overpowering. One of the bummer's of this place is the pricey-ness of it. If you bring your reusable cups back they only give you 5% off your next drink. I appreciate the thoughtfulness, but still, you will typically walk out of this place for nothing less than $8 bucks a person. For me...it is still worth it!! Quality items + tastiness = win for me! There are varying degrees of sweetness that you can choose when you're ordering that even shows up on your receipt so you know they paid attention to it. And they don't replace it with artificial sweetener so you don't have to worry about any aftertaste. It's just pure sugar adjustment which should be an option for everything in this world to be honest. The tea is good, the milk is good. I wouldn't choose the less ice option unless it's cold outside. The ice is the only thing that will properly chill your drink so if you ask for half or no ice, your drink will be running water - lukewarm temperature. The strawberry matcha tea is wonderful with real fruit that provides a subtle hint that works great with the matcha tea and milk. I think that strawberry popping bubbles in place of tapioca will make a drink sweeter because my fiancee got that with the same 50% sweetness and hers was way sweeter than mine. Sturdy plastic cups too. Make sure to recycle them! Because they're definitely not going anywhere for a while. The drinks are not as cheap as Houston prices, but that's asking for too much. Definitely probably some of the best boba you'll find in cincy. The two guys running the show when I was there were super nice and welcoming. You could tell they were having fun with what they were doing. I'm not super into Thai rolled ice cream but they also have that here along with cereal bowls. Both are customizable with toppings of your choice. I went with the plain oolong milk tea because I have to judge their classic before I come back and get something else. The drinks come with a plastic cup that's reusable, and they encourage you to bring it back for a small discount on your next beverage. The boba was tasty. I'll definitely be back. I had milk cap oolong tea w/ boba. I realized that I forgot to ask for less sweet after placing the order, but the drink turned out to be just right. The taste of tea was legit. The milk cap was probably the saltiest one I've ever had, but it went well with the tea. The boba are sticky and soft. I like that they have a mix of black and white boba - it doesn't affect the taste but just makes me happier by seeing them lol The staff was helpful and friendly. If this place was in OTR, it would be busy all day every day. As it is, it was empty when we walked in. The woman at the counter took the time to explain the entire menu to us, which was great. I'd heard about milk caps before and they totally lived up to the hype- it's like a little touch of foamy cheesecake on top! They showed me how to drink it correctly, which I appreciated! The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because the bathroom was really really filthy. I've been here twice so far and I think it's an adequate addition to the Hyde park area serving all your bubble tea and rolled ice cream needs. My favorite order is the Thai tea with a milk cap which means you get a layer of creamy and cheesy froth on top of your tea. Cheese and tea may sound gross but think more like sweet cream cheese and it's delicious. You have to be sure to drink it at the right angle though so that all of the flavors meld together. The guys who work here are friendly and in my last visit they let me sample some of the more exotic flavors of boba and jelly that I was less familiar with.
