Catching up with my reviews - ate here on 14th September, in my bid to try out the new local…read moreplaces. Very busy restaurant and had to book in advance to try it out, following a takeaway option the week beforehand (which was very average). Extremely modern fresh interior and friendly enough welcome in. Was a noisy night as a live band was playing at the other end of the restaurant. Sat us down at the end of the restaurant in a booth and waited a few minutes before getting waiter back to ask for drinks. Ordered a bottle of wine and soft drinks. 25 minutes later... they appear back.. Not a good start already, given the waitress had taken our food order before the chap came back with 2 soft drinks and a bottle! Mum was the only one to order a starter of minestrone soup & as you can see from the photos - a tuscan bean soup would be a better description, not a minestrone soup of any shape or form. No one came over to ask how it was either. Mains arrived shortly after and I went for Milanese Chicken with pasta, mum had pasta with spicy sausage and Fi, pasta with prawns. Side order of focaccia bread. Simplest way to describe the food. Bland and tasteless. No seasoning in any of the dishes whatsoever. Pasta was dry and not fresh tasting in the slightest. Worst part - the bread. It wasn't cooked and dough was still raw all across the edges and the rock salt... OMG.. Anymore thrown on & I'd be in hospital! Not to worry... oh wait, thats right, no one came over again to ask how things were, or even acknowledged you at the table. Didn't eat much, but still opted to try desserts to get a better feel for the place on a review. Sticky Toffee and Tiramisu are always winners & they were okay - not stand out, but the better out of the 3 courses. Another thing that lets this place down, is the ambience or lack of. It's just so loud in here with the tunnel design and you can't hear yourself or talk without raising your voice. I was quite disappointed with Nonnas Kitchen, given the takeaway the week before wasn't great, but put that down to it being a takeaway. Clearly, things don't improve much eating in food or service wise. Popular down to nothing else is really in Kirky and it's big and modern. Not a winner with me or anyone that expects freshly cooked and lovingly prepared food/service. You Don't Gotta Eat Here... Sadly!

The waiter was very attentive and quick at taking our orders which is always a good thing! The food had great presentation and tasted lovely (sorry this is a late post and I forgot what I had!). Will definitely come again when I am in Kirky next :)

Despite the random ramblings of the first review on this place, having nothing much to do with…read moreeating here, as more a rant on cycling and coffee - I decided to try this out, after Nonna's Kitchen across the road was an utter disappointment. Booked table for Fiona and I on a Tuesday night, as the weekends are rammed. Wasn't overly busy with 3-4 tables there at 6:30pm. Waitress came running over from behind counter, bubbly and friendly to seat us. Her colleague came over with menus and mentioned the specials, along with offer of drinks. Fancied their Chianti, so she came back with a small glass for us to try beforehand (nice touch). Ended up with the bottle as a result! Went for starters of calamari, mains of Lasagne and Fiona has risotto, but they kindly added prawns to it for her. Chatted with the waitress & instantly from sitting down here, it has a very different feel from Nonna's Kitchen. No, it's not slick and fancy with a Fiat 500 car sitting outside purely for marketing purposes. It's COSY and welcoming. I'm instantly relaxed as is Fiona. This is what I want from a restaurant... lets hope the food lives up to the ambience and service so far! Calamari - cooked fresh, not from frozen, but cut a little too thinly and lacked seasoning. Still nice though, but for £5.95 it could be better taste and portion wise. Glasgow City prices here after all.. Mains didn't take long to come - 15 mins or so and wowser. There was certainly no lack of portions here! The focaccia bread looked amazing (cooked!) :-) Dug into the bread whilst the lasagne cooled. Stark contrast from Nonna's and the lasagne was bursting with flavours. Fiona even said her risotto was the nicest she'd had so far, from ANY restaurant to date. It might be slightly more than Tony Macaroni's lets say, given they do special 2/3 course meal deals, but with the portion sizes and quality, it was well on a par with City Centre restaurants. Saved space for dessert & had to have Tiramisu and Fiona tried Torta Della Nonna. A traditional Tuscan dessert with pastry and vanilla. Whilst mine was stunning, Fiona was left disappointed in hers, as it had nuts all over it (hates nuts!). A little heavy on the icing sugar dusting too. Lass said she'd change the menu to show nuts on it, but despite not being eaten, it remained on the bill. A nicer touch would have been to take it off as first timers here and an issue with the menu here. That said, we both had a very relaxing, friendly banter evening, learning about the restaurant, staff etc and experienced FINALLY, some freshly cooked food locally. I will 100% come back and take the mother along to sample it and hope the standards remain consistent here. You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

We had an AirBNB in a nearby town and wanted dinner without driving all the way back to the more populated cities. Looking at Yelp we found this location and decided to give it a try. Kirky was fairly dead at 7pm on a weekday but the local parking lot was free by that point in the evening. Cafe Marian was an short stroll from the lot behind the church and the staff welcomed us in. The food was good and the service was quick (ish - I mean, small town dinner, don't expect the food in ten minutes). Quick note - at the time (late May 2019) they only took cash - there's an ATM across the street, so no biggie.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share this experience due to serious food…read moresafety concerns. We ordered from Celino's on August 19th, and one of the dishes -- the Allo Scoglio Pasta -- contained spoiled crayfish. The smell was unmistakable and completely inedible. We didn't eat anything else in the order out of caution, as the risk of food poisoning was too high. I grew up in Greece and know seafood -- this was clearly off. Given that my mother was previously sick for weeks due to bad crayfish, we weren't willing to take any chances and threw out the entire meal. I contacted the restaurant immediately. The manager acknowledged the issue and initially offered a replacement meal for collection only, which felt dismissive considering the seriousness of the situation. I was told I'd be called the next day by the area manager -- that call never came. Eventually, someone called around 7pm and all they did was refund one meal and insinuate that we didn't know what we were talking about. It was condescending and disappointing. Expecting us to collect a free meal from the same kitchen that nearly served us spoiled seafood is not a solution -- it's a lack of accountability. Pointing us toward Uber Eats to resolve the issue just felt like passing the buck. Food safety should be a top priority, and the lack of proper follow-up or genuine concern from the team is alarming. I hope no one else has to experience this.

Followed by the biggest strawberry tart I've had! OMG, I can safely say the food was the best Italian food I have eaten in Scotland. whatever ingredients they use are simply wow! our waiter Alex was so attentive, had fabulous "patter" and he just completed our experience. From start to finish, we had an amazing day, and it's now my new favourite restaurant! if you want authentic Italian food with fabulous service and a very reasonable price, then Celino's is the place to go!
