    Penne Marco. Very tasty!

Viva is, without a doubt, my favourite Italian restaurant in Glasgow. It's always immaculately clean and the staff are friendly and attentive. Decor wise, it's a mix of dark wood panels and exposed brickwork - but it doesn't feel dingy and dark, just really warm, inviting and cosy. I've been here a gazillion times over the years - I've never left disappointed. The food is simply awesome. My favourite starter is the minestrone soup - which I used to really dislike until I had it here. It's full of pasta and chunks of veg..perfect for an autumn eve :) Mains...they're all great (and I have pretty much sampled the whole menu!). Most recently had penne Marco - penne pasta, chargrilled chicken, mushroom and onion in a creamy tomato sauce. It is to die for! Don't skip the tiramisu :) Viva always has deals on 5pm - currently 2 for £10 on a la carte pasta/pizza mains. They always have a 25% off total bill deal, too.

I have visited here a number of times now. Each time has been a pleasure. The food is simply fantastic. The service excellent. The coffee delicious. It is fantastic value for money notwithstanding any deals you may find.

I went here with Paul M for dinner before a movie and we both really enjoyed it. We were heartily welcomed the moment we stepped in the door, the staff taking our wait coats for us as they showed us to our table and told us the specials. An Italian restaurant should be warm and it should smell of great Italian food, which this one did, so we suspected we were in for a good meal. I ordered the Funghi Ripieni (breaded mushrooms stuffed with Italian cheese) to start and it was delicious. Paul got the Polpetti which he loved, a nice surprise since he's not very adventurous with food and it's hard to get him to order anything other than Minestrone soup. Fortunately I think we've got a new favourite with this. For the main course I ordered the Penne Marco and Paul got a param ham pizza. Mine was perfect. Paul enjoyed his but said it was overly garlicky, when I tried a piece I thought it was perfect, but perhaps if you don't like garlic this could be one to avoid. I was sooo tempted to get the Tiramisu. I'd seen someone else order it and it looked perfect. Unfortunately we had to leave so we'd make our film on time, but we'll definitely be back soon.

My family was visiting for the weekend and we decided last minute to head for an Italian. A friend had recommended Viva - so I decided to chance it and see if they had space. Being a Saturday I didn't have high hopes, but luckily they were able to squeeze us in. After booking a table for 17:30 I realised that Rangers were playing - living not far from the stadium it became apparent that getting a taxi into the City Centre at that time was a no go as football would have just finished. Therefore I called back to see if I could get in for 18:30 instead. The lady on the phone explained it was really busy and they didn't have a spare table, but that she would rejig the current plan and fit me in. Great! Well... even with my rejigged plan my taxi just didn't show up. This meant that the 1830 reservation time was fast approaching and I was no where near. I called the restaurant to tell them I'd be late. Not a problem, but they affirmed that they would need the table back by 20:15. First impressions of the restaurant were good! A packed restaurant, deceivingly large, divine smelling and a lovely atmosphere. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant and given our menus. There was plenty of choice and I struggled to decide! I ended up picking the Spaghetti Ricardo. This was a dish in a cream and tomato sauce with italian piccante sausages and smoked bacon. It was delicious! The sauce gorgeously rich, the sausages perfectly moist - all topped off with a big heap of parmesan cheese. Spaghetti heaven! My other half had the Pollo Viva - which was a fancy chicken kiev - pan fried breast of chicken with gooey mozzarella, parma ham, crispy breadcrumbs and a sweet napoli sauce. This too was a good call! Others had pizza and really enjoyed these also. My dad had the Diavola pizza and had a chilli sweat on! It was super spicy, even for us chilli heads! You've been warned, order with caution :-) We were about to order deserts when (what I believe was) the restaurant manager came over to remind us we needed to vacate the table by 20:15. It was 5 minutes to this time, bummer we thought. Dessert sounded lovely. But fair play they had warned us of this multiple times. However, before we knew it they had magicked up a booth for us so that we could have dessert. Yay! Oh mannnn. The deserts were sooooo good! I had the hot cinnamon waffle with vanilla ice cream. My dad had the toffee crunch cheesecake which was out of this world! Others had tiramisu and a bailey's cheesecake. All washed down with a large glass of red. Once we'd finished our deserts and paid up - the manager came over again. Looking a bit sheepish he kindly asked for the table back as the diners had arrived. We speedily made our exit. They'd been really great and accommodating - and for this I was super thankful! My family don't manage to visit much - but this night out more than made up for that. Great food and wonderful service paired with fantastic company. I recommend and will absolutely be back!

We put our name on the list and didn't even have time for me to order a glass of wine from the bar before we were called. The place is larger than I expected, and loud, with its high ceilings and has an industrial feel. Its like a pasta nightclub haha! We ordered the panzanella as a starter on the strong recommendation of our fellow bar patron, the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the beef ragu. The flavors in the panzanella were SO rich, ingredients so so fresh and it was absolutely delicious. The ragu was generous sized and great as well - but the real star of the show was the ravioli. Literally the best pasta dish I've had in my life. It was so buttery and flavorful, we both agreed it was phenomenal. From sitting down to checking out it was very fast as well. I hope to have the chance to get back here some day!

So maybe it was ill advised that this was the exact time I chose to drag my other half to Sarti but I think I got away with it. The staff didn't seem to mind at all that we'd showed up so late and without a reservation. We were welcomed, seated and our drinks orders were taken (I was gently guided away from an inferior bottle of wine to a nicer one for the same price, which is always a nice touch). I ordered a mixed wild mushroom pizza while my partner went for the spaghetti bolognese and everything was absolutely delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared. I love a good mushroom pizza and this is one of the better ones I've tried in Glasgow. We briefly considered dessert but, being the last people in the restaurant this time, decided it would be better to save it for a time when we were more organised. We paid the bill and were invited to a small glass of limoncello with the staff before we left. My partner normally hates the stuff (although he likes lemons) but actually enjoyed this one, so there's another minor victory. I've visited Sarti before but with a large group and found everything to be great on that occasion too but it was quite a long time ago. It's good to know that they're still doing everything right. We'll be back soon and hopefully at a more reasonable time.

We booked for an early Friday evening dinner. The decor of Verona is pretty nice - large booth around the windows, lots of dark timber features and generally a classy, slick vibe. It's really nice to sit in one of the booths and look out at the world rushing by - I'd highly recommend requesting one when you book if you're going at a busy time. We ordered from the pre-theatre menu - 2 courses for £11.95. I got the breaded mozzarella and mushrooms, followed by the pollo Verona (chicken with mushroom, onion, pepper in a cream sauce with rice or vegetables), as well as a side of mozzarella garlic bread. The food arrived pretty quickly. My starter had two mozzarella sticks and two mushrooms with a small salad and pot of sauce. It was pleasant enough but overall a little plain and unexciting. The main hit the same level of "ok" - the portion was a little on the small side, and while there was nothing wrong with the dish, it just wasn't remarkable in any way. While I don't eat out expecting to be eating omgamazing food at every single meal, I do like my food to be a little interesting. This reminded me of a basic meal I'd make at home when I didn't have the inclination to make something more interesting. I do have to say that the service was really good, and saved this review from slipping down to two stars. The waitresses were really friendly and chatty, and we never had to wait long for our drinks or bill. The bill came to £40-something with a couple of soft drinks and a glass of wine. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'd rush back to Verona after this mediocre experience.

Post Elite Event drinks in The Pot Still (read review, go there, now, why still here?) led to the urgent need for chips. This place happened to be on my way to the taxi rank, new (i am a yelper aren't I?) and open. Win x 3. With the booze flowing, the healthy minded person within my brain decided that a haggis supper was quite possibly the best thing in the world to order. Order it I did. Quality wise, I'd have to say that it was pretty high. I've eaten my fair share of chips over the years and these were pretty damn nice. Haggis? Well tbh, I've never had one from a chippy before, but man was it tasty. So why the three stars? Well, as I mentioned, I was pretty well oiled by the time I ventured in, so I tend to not trust my judgement as much as i normally would. A high 3 stars just now, with a secondary visit to come! Maybe I won't be drunk this time... pffft!

When we arrived we were suprised to see how posh it was (I'm so glad I wore a dress with my trainers) I felt a little undressed but did not feel looked down at by any of the staff. We arrived and meet up with some fellow yelpers. The drinks began to flow with cocktails being handed out by waiting staff. I was driving so did not get to enjoy the free drink. then came the canopies, they were beautiful to look at and tasted amazing, my favourite was the goats cheese tarts. The staff were fun and friendly, I think they liked us as we were having a laugh with them and they were soon coming straight to our table with the yummy treats. The restraunt is classic and grand looking, with the bar in the middle. The toilets are downstairs and you get to have a nosey into the kitchen on your way past. They had a live brass band playing lots of modern classics like Beyonce which was good fun. I will defo be visiting again to try the full menu and will be leaving the car at home so I can enjoy the cocktails.

Gusto is part of the Living Ventures group (Grill on the Corner, conveniently over the road from Gusto) and serves Italian food. The restaurant is beautiful, quite similar to Grill on the Corner actually with be classy dark timber, gold finishing a and lots of mood lighting. The restaurant is split into sections so you won't feel like you're in a huge space even though it's a generous-sized restaurant. There's a bar right in the middle which is nicely decorated with stained glass and a tasty selection of booze. Of course, it's Monday lunchtime so I'm not drinking. The menu has great non-alcoholic options like coolers for £4. I opted for a mint and strawberry cooler which was absolutely lush: the barman here clearly knows what he's doing. I'm going to have to return for cocktails! Onto the food. I went for baked gnocchi with a side of spinach. The gnocchi had nduja through it - quite a lot actually as it was pretty spicy! Not unbearable though and overall this was a really nice dish, good portion size and perfectly baked. The spinach wasn't quite as good and was quite watery, and some of the leaves needed their stems trimmed. Overall I enjoyed it here a lot. The service is warm and friendly, and Holly who was looking after the area I was seated in was great and really knew her stuff. I do have to say the front of house wasn't quite as good and seemed a little confused and unsure, but the place has just opened so that's no big deal. All up, I was really impressed with my lunch and I'll be back soon.
