My brother recently found this place because we wanted a closer bakery that does Mil Hojas and our go to is located all the way in Anaheim so it seemed perfect. I went in to buy another family member the same cake and when I went in the female at the cash register didn't bother to greet me or really acknowledge me. I asked questions and she was super dismissive. Her whole attitude and demeanor bugged me so much that I rather do the drive to Anaheim now. I love supporting small businesses too so it's disappointing. The cake is delicious but the attitude and negativity I felt really outweighs it. A tiny bakery shop right next door to northgate serving freshly baked breads and cakes. I got the a concha bread it was decent and a tres leche cake I think it was $46 for a 10in fair pricing not cheap nor overpriced. I like how the tres leche cake was moist and not overly sweet so you can easily chow down the whole cake lol. Service was ok the lady wasn't too friendly but wasn't bad. I have lived in the city of Placentia for almost 40 years and have supported countless local businesses across all cultures and backgrounds. I never judge where I spend my money -- I simply enjoy trying different food places and bakeries throughout our city and county. Unfortunately, my experience here was deeply disappointing. I walked in politely and asked a simple question, only to be met with rude stares and completely ignored. No acknowledgment, no attempt to help, while other customers were being assisted. Another coworker informed me she doesn't speak English. The manager rushed out from the back, seemingly disgusted at having to assist me. I felt judged and completely dismissed, even though all I came in to do was place a tamale order and pick up some champurrado on this rainy evening. I left almost in tears, feeling upset and embarrassed, and decided to call instead. When I spoke with the manager and tried to explain what happened, he cut the conversation short, said he reviewed the cameras and that his coworker did nothing wrong -- before I was even able to fully explain my experience -- then told me there was nothing he could do, wished me a good night, and hung up on me, completely blocking my number. This was heartbreaking because the situation could have been resolved with a simple conversation and accountability. I truly wanted to support a small bakery rather than going to the grocery store next door, but that decision turned into a humiliating and disrespectful experience. Language barriers happen, but basic respect and acknowledgment should be given to every customer. All I wanted was a tamale -- and to be treated with simple, basic courtesy, no matter how small or busy the location seemed. Not to mention, I understand and speak some Spanish, and I even tried speaking it, but the delivery was still pushed off and I was hung up on. Just a warning: I'd advise knowing some Spanish, as this seems to be the only place where language has been a barrier combined with poor customer service. It is one of my favorite types of cake and I noticed this bakery sells it by the slice. Their smallest cake (1/4 sheet) will run you approximately $47... but a slice is only $6 and will satisfy your cravings if you've ever tried it. The Torta I bought was @$9 and had mayo, a thin slice of ham, an egg, and what tasted like a spread of refried beans. Decent tasting but needs hot sauce IMO. I think next time I'll pick out some pastries. I didn't see a menu so I don't know much about what else they sell? The guy before me got some sort of white liquid that looked like horchata? you can taste the freshness of the bread baked here! I get excited when I find a panaderia (bakery) that has good pan dulce (sweet bread) with a wide variety. And the best part? They're open late for us night owls - they close at 10pm. It's a small spot so it can get crowded inside very easily but they're located in a strip mall right next to Northgate/ other restaurants so there's plenty of parking. I went last week and saw that they added a small table and chairs right outside. We "discovered" this place during Christmas and they were selling champurrado at the time, which we tried, and it was pretty good however, I prefer hot chocolate with my bread. On Christmas Eve, which was last night, my mom had a craving for some cheese and jalapeño tamales. Mil Hojas was one of the few businesses that were even open in the entire shopping center. I grabbed a few tamales and two cream horns for dessert, and they were both flavorful and delicious. The youngest worker there speaks English if you don't speak Spanish, and he was a great help to me. The kitchen is open, so you can see what they're making and how clean it is. Honestly, everything there looked and smelled delicious! Sadly, a lot of people pass by this tiny business, because it is kind of hidden. Don't make that mistake! I found Mil Hojas bakery by luck. I had forgotten to order my son's birthday cake. He didn't ask for anything but a very specific cake. I called multiple bakeries in the surrounding area and no one would do a same day order. All I needed was a banana filling, white bread birthday cake. Well, thankfully I came across Mil Hojas, spoke to Juan Carlos and they totally saved the day. They were able to make this cake within hours and it was so amazingly good and looked amazing! Decorated with fresh fruit. I couldn't have been any happier with it, I really couldn't. I'm getting my cakes from here moving forward (specially going back for their mil hojas specialty cake)!
