!! CONSUMER BEWARE !! My husband and I hired Blue Line Home Construction to do a home addition on…read moreour existing house in Puyallup. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with the issues that we had with this company. I won't try to bore you with paragraphs and paragraphs of detail, so here are the highlights: * The project manager (Donovan) was so dishonest and incapable of his role as a project manager that the owner (Marvin) ended up terminating him from the company right in the middle of our project... leaving us with NO project manager and we were charged a $10K project manager fee regardless * They FORGOT to add insulation, gutters, and the required landscaping (grading) for our project to the estimate. * During the design / engineering process, Blue Line's team inserted changes in the proposal that was to be sent to the county for permitting and did not tell us about them. If it wasn't for my father-in-law catching the discrepancies, we would've never known. (ex: changed our roof from asphalt shingle to metal without notice). * Since Blue Line delayed siding installation after roof install, didn't haul away a 6ft tall mud pile right next to the addition, and didn't follow the proper grading procedures for the landscape, we had SERIOUS water damage during construction (see photos attached) * The owner (Marvin) saw the photos of the water pooling up on the floor and did not initially want to pull back the drywall or insulation to check for water damage. His said "it should be fine". I had to cease progress on the entire project in order for the owner to take my concern seriously. * When the owner came out to finally come clean up the garbage / dirt / excessive foliage out of our yard, he damaged the slab our outdoor A/C unit was sitting on. Their crew is extremely careless. * With all of these issues, you can imagine how upsetting it was for my wife and I. Unfortunately, Marvin (owner) stopped returning our phone calls and text messages because we were "too mean" and "had to take a mental break from our project". After the water damage fiasco, we did not hear from him again. We had to try and manage communication through an alternative measure. We never received project updates, and my wife and I were continuously trying to keep the project going. The owner didn't know what type of insulation to put in our roof, nor what window was per code... How does a general contractor not know this? Finally, no one ever showed up for a county inspection either. My husband and I had to figure our way through them. Anyways, if you've read this far... I apologize for the long read. I wasn't really planning on writing this review, but we hope we can save other people from hiring this company and dealing with the constant headaches and stress. Please, please do your research and know your consumer rights before you hire ANY general contractor. Otherwise you end up with a deceitful company like Blue Line Home Construction.

My biggest complaint is that he just didn't seem to care about doing it right the first time because as long as it was fixed, as per the contract, his attitude was that he was doing his job. He once said to me "I don't care if we have to do it six f***ing times, the contract says we can fix it as many times as we need to" To his credit Gary was indeed willing to fix things six times over. However, given the volume and nature of the issues, it was hard to want to continue with the process when the same issue was "fixed" over and over again and basic things like a non-level and non-square window, an obviously unlevel floor, or unattached hose bibs needed to be pointed out. Here is a quick list of issues that we had. Most of them were eventually fixed, but all of them had to be pointed out to get addressed. Communication: * Very little communication, went on vacation for 3 weeks didn't answer emails or deal with issues. Later told me he didn't call me because he didn't like talking with me, which is understandable since I was generally angry with him for not communicating and being careless with my home, but dealing with issues is what being professional is all about * Speaking of unprofessional, he at one point suggested that I abuse my wife and children Plumbing: * Copper pipe improperly put through studs without spacers or proper clearances. * Connected copper directly to galvanized piping * Placed plumbing below joists and in front of a window and then argued that it would not affect window operation, later back tracked on this statement and said it was because they didn't want to drill holes in the joists * Later mis-drilled holes in joists, thereby drilling twice the number of holes as necessary * Connected hot water to toilet, left it like this for several weeks * Left house without water, no communication, made us call plumber, which cost $250, plumber reported Gary for using an unlicensed plumber on contractor permitted work * Because of unlicensed plumber, permit suspended, I had to call to say I did the work and clear permit * Plumbing failed inspection the first time * Gary asked for a change order to fix failed plumbing, later backtracked * Used PEX instead of copper as specified by contract, did not refund for difference General: * Bedroom window "fixed" 4 times, still not level or square * Framing in hallway crooked, corners not straight * Floor leveling took three tries, each time I was told it was done only find it was not, caused more than week delay * Mis-drilled door stop in the bedroom fixed with caulking * Bathroom back-splash was a piece of board nailed with finishing nails, * Bathtub surround is so far off wall that it can be pushed off the caulking with a several inch gap

They were one of the first to reply and set up a consultation. I set up an appointment. Received a phone call that I missed. I called them right back and a man answered rudely asking why I was calling... I politely explained I was returning their phone call and he still questioned me as why I was calling, short tempered. They were very specific to need to meet at my residency and needing my address apparently to meet but I was fine with meeting them at a close destination. They arrived on time, and I quickly realized the man I spoke to on the phone that was very rude was the guy that was pitching that he would be the GC of our job. He was persistent that he wanted to speak to my husband, as if I am not capable of making a decision if they are someone we would like to hire. I feel like he was overselling his capabilities of doing our job and he walked into that consultation as of needing to show me he was the boss. I need a GC that's capable of communication and fulfilling the job. Their tactic was very skeptical. I will give it to them, that they were quick to try to pick up a job, and they arrived on time and I was able to have a cordial short conversation with them to know they were not going to be our general contractor. He gave me a ball park bid. The price was higher than what I felt they were capable of, and higher than most other contractors. They also claimed they had a reputation with the local banks, but they wanted us to be the dealer. Maybe good for small out of pocket jobs??? But definitely not new construction builds that may require a lender, unless you are doing an owner build. Overall, based on my brief experience with them. Don't waist your time or money. Lack of trust in their ability to complete a job smoothly. This review is based off their communication skills.
