Great Italian ices here. Interesting flavors and everyone is always friendly. My faves are mango and passion fruit together and the lemon is always YUM. You order at a walk up window and if you're lucky you may get a chair while you enjoy your frozen treat. We usually walk the neighborhood while we enjoy ours. A friend recommended this quaint Italian Ice shop and what a cute location. There were seatings available outside but not too much. The best Italian ice! It's much better than the ones I was used to when I was little out of the containers. It's super creamy and all of the flavors are amazing! It's tucked in a neighborhood and the staff is super nice. I even saw them open back up for someone after they closed. Who doesn't love Italian ice especially on a hot summer day in Chicago. Tried this spot out and it is delicious but it lacks in flavor just a bit for me. It's a very subtle flavor especially the coconut. I got a small combo flavor of strawberry and coconut. The coconut does have shredding coconut flakes. The small was definitely enough. I was super excited to see a Miko's on the way going somewhere because I loved it so much in my 1st experience. However, this location is not as good as the location on Sacramento. The taste is probably the same but the service definitely isn't! The location in Sacramento offered to place a baby size cup in a bigger cup since I was going to eat it in the car. I didn't realize how much I appreciate that experience because I suffered it today. I ordered a baby combo of watermelon & mango. There was a small hint of watermelon on top, then serving of mango, and watermelon serving at the bottom. Very different between the 2 locations because the other one was clear in separation in combos. One flavor separated with the other one that is visible. I ate my baby sized Italian ice in the car. As soon as I took the spoon out (after taking a quick photo for Yelp), a good chunk of Italian ice fell in my dress. It kept dripping and dripping so I ended up eating it as if it was an ice cream cone until it stopped falling apart. Having Sacramento location being my first location, the lady was super nice to me. However, this one was not as nice, considering I was the only patron on a random afternoon. It almost seemed like she was bothered that there was a customer because she was in the middle of something. How have I not written a review on Miko's yet? Oh, that's right it's because I'm super behind on all my reviews. After driving by in the summer and wanting something to help beat the heat we pulled over here just to try it out. The screen window will be closed so ring the bell, don't be like some people who try to open the door, like some people I won't name. My first visit I had the strawberry and lemon flavors as a combo in a medium size, which was large enough. Right away I could get the mild sweetness from strawberry, not the overpowering flavor you get from syrups. The lemon flavor was a nice tart counterpoint to the strawberry and the combined flavors made it something better than if I had got them separately. Our first visit was so good that we made it a point to go and this time got raspberry and pineapple. This time I felt like I would have enjoyed the flavors separately better. read more

We moved to the neighborhood in the winter time. So, I have been waiting roughly 4 months for Miko's to open up for the warm season. I drive by the Irving Park location every day. One of the first beautiful days of spring (which took forever to show its face) was also one of the first days Miko's was open. I got home and said "We're gettin' shaved ice," and forced Mr. Keelin out the door with me. First time at Miko's was a fail for me. I mixed the banana chip (banana and chocolate chip shaved ice) with coconut, which tasted super weird. I think the banana chip is just not for me in general because I don't want to mix ice, banana, and chocolate chips. Mixing that further with coconut was just no good for me. I see someone else reviewed and said they loved banana chip. I can recognize...it's just not for me. The texture was still delightful. The second time I went back, I had the mango, and it was delightful. I've tried the strawberry and the raspberry as well. I really appreciate the Irving Park location. The inside looks very cute, and they take cards! I will be here A LOT during the warm months. read more

One of my favorite parts of summer is when Miko's opens! You can't beat Italian ice on a hot summer day. I've tried most of the flavors and haven't been disappointed yet. Kiwi and strawberry is my favorite combo, next to lemon and....pretty much anything! I want to buy a tub of the lemon and mix it with vodka. Pros: - They take debit and credit cards -They have a variety of sizes -They make small batches of some flavors (kiwi, peach, sour cherry) and update their social media when they're available Cons: - Most of the employees at this location are....meh. They don't seem very friendly, but it's a walk up window so you're not dealing with them much. -The neighborhood is littered with empty styrofoam cups, but that's more of an ignorant customer issue. Miko's is da best Italian ice in Chi-town. We're so happy to live only 5 minutes from here. And on days like today where the temps are in the 80s Miko's delivers the goods. Just walk up to the window and place your order. Season just started so flavors are limited but they promised more yummy flavors as the summer fruit season rolls in. During our visit today I ordered a large combo mango and coconut (their best sellers). The Italian ice here is creamy and flavorful from the first spoonful to the very last scrape at the bottom of the cup. It never watered down and for that was worth every penny. We definitely plan to come back often to try their seasonal flavors...hoping to see peach hit the flavor board (hint hint to da Italian ice artists behind-the-scenes). Really like this place. It's ultimately a business, but whenever I've come here, it feels like I'm just getting Italian ice out of someone's doorstep because they're right by residential homes and the employees are extremely friendly. I asked about their hibiscus and the employee offered to give me a sample. I was thinking it would be a small spoon like at ice cream places, but NO I got a a spoonful, literally. Stumbled onto their block party recently, and the owners were friendly and making sure everyone was getting food or being served. It was really nice to see a local business just be part of the community and to see neighbor support echos the kind relationship this place has. I've tried lemon, coconut, strawberry, hibiscus, horchata, and pineapple, and each flavor taste fresh and exactly like the fruit it's described. We were intrigued by all the flavors of ice, "granita", that Miko's offers. We bought 10 quarts, 10 flavors. We had high expectations! My roommate is very familiar with Italian Ice, as he commented that there were only a few flavors for sale when he was a kid in an Italian neighborhood. We are very disappointed. The HORCHATA is the only flavor we both considered the best, with just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. The COCONUT, MANGO, PASSION FRUIT, RASPBERRY were ok and have some pure fruit flavor, but the recipe needs work,. The STRAWBERRY, WATERMELON had diluted fruit flavors, and the PINEAPPLE, LEMON and LIME were far too bitter. As we see it, the proportion of fresh fruit flavor to sugar / sweetner is the key problem.
