On Nov. 24th 2021, I purchased the Akoya Stud Earrings with Diamonds for my wife's Christmas present.  When she opened it, there were no diamonds on it.  She tried them on to see if the pearl was a good size and we put it back in the box.  I tool pictures of the earrings and the receipt, then email their customer service to request that the correct earrings are sent.  They provided me with a label and I shipped it back.   I subsequently receive a call from them stating that they received the earrings, but based on their investigation of the documentation, they shipped me the correct earrings.  Which implies that the ones I sent back were NOT the ones they sent to me.  Then they informed me that they will be returning the wrong earrings to me.  They are so confident that their materials controls were spot on that they effectively called me a liar. I've filed a dispute with my credit card company and will pursue this until I'm made whole.  The fact that I even had to do this is ridiculous.  Don't buy from their website or you might get robbed like I did.  Or, if you do buy from them, record yourself opening the package and inspecting the contents so you have video evidence just in case. read more

This was one of the best experiences I've had at any store. I came in to see about getting a pair of earrings I recently inherited fixed and from the time I entered, the service was top knotch. We worked with Leyla who was patient as we went through the verification process and prepping the earrings to be sent out to their workshop. She also assisted my mother in finding the right necklace, while also giving us a crash course in pearl grading. While we ultimately did not buy the pearls that day, we will be coming back! I cannot even begin to explain how amazing the team at Mikimoto NY is. I've worked with Todd a few times already and there are not enough words in the English language to explain how wonderful he is. I've had two more purchases since my pendant. I actually saw this jewelry tray on Instagram and texted him a screenshot wanting to know if he had it in the boutique. He mentioned that it's a Japan exclusive design and they're not sending any to the US. I gave up hope after that. Flashforward a few months and he texts me saying he's got some good news. He has the tray I wanted and he's already reserved one for me. There's only 6 and that's all they're getting. Seriously, I don't think I've purchased something this quick ever. Third purchase was this beautiful picture frame that was actually a wedding gift. Again, he made the purchase process so smooth and easy. Never any pressure to purchase. A few bumps in the road getting it to me as I live in LA though, they use FedEx as their shipping partner and it was a nightmare this time. NO FAULT AT ALL ON TODD JUST TO BE 100% CLEAR. FedEx claimed they attempted delivery but no one ever knocked or came to the door. We have cameras which never caught a FedEx truck let alone a driver. The second time they claimed that the address has moved. I couldn't even edit the delivery address let alone MOVE an address. They never even attempted to deliver it. After a few days of back and forth, I finally managed to get a manager to override the address requirement which was CORRECTLY entered by Todd. Just say that no one was competent enough to go on Google maps, FedEx. I had it rerouted to my local store where I finally got my hands on it. Overall, love Mikimoto NY and the service provided by Todd BUT IF MIKIMOTO CORPORATE SEES THIS, CHANGE YOUR DELIVERY PARTNER. read more

I don't know how many Mikimoto stores are in America. I did not bother to google it. Suffice to say there is none in San Francisco and that means when in New York, one must walk on 5th Ave and find your Mikimoto store, which is conveniently located across from Tiffany's, and right by Central Park and Bergdorf and Goodman. All seemed too good to be true, considering it's a very short walk from where I stayed at the Park Hyatt and it's on my way to my most favorite spot in New York, the MoMa. I had some level of doubt and wanted to compare Tiffany's Akoya pearls with Mikimoto's Akoya's. Both fairly recognizable brands and both get their ocean pearls in Akoya. I was told Mr. Mikimoto gets his first dibs. I'll buy that. When shopping for pearls, however, one should not make any other choices but at Mikimoto. For size 8 mm, one get 18K white or gold settings, with three grades to choose from A to AAA, plus each grade there are some variations. I could not tell the difference, the lady says, "don't give up, keep looking." The store had one Asian sales lady, and being that I'm Asian, it seems that she was assigned to me. There were no other patrons in the boutique at the time, and there were mobbed crowd at the Tiffany's, seems like a no brainer as to which store I'd shop for pearls. So I got a lot of attention, whereas at Tiffany's, where I had purchased other items before, it took a whole 3 minute for a sale person to show up at the pearl's counter, unlike the SF one, where they were on you the moment you get there. I've worn them before, bought and given to me by a former beau. This is the second pair, and I would say the backing seemed to have improved since the 1990s, and that the luster seems to be just as mesmerizing as I had remembered. In middle age, the reality is setting in. I have limited time on earth. Everything is on decline. And there is no reason to save for that unknown future. The future is known, death and deterioration are imminent. But pearls are lustrous, and in those beautiful, shining pearls, I see not only a brighter future, but a milestone that marks the arrival of the middle age: I have arrived. I like my pearls, and I don't hesitate to buy them, not because I need to have them, but I want them, and therefore I will have them. Who says diamond is a girl's best friends? I'd go with pearls. Good quality ones, buy them at the Mikimoto store on the 5th Ave, or fly to Japan to get them there or both, as the case may be. read more

Mikimoto is the best. I had tried buying pearl earrings somewhere else for my wedding, but after a disappointing experience I finally came here and found exactly what I was looking for. Of course, they were extremely expensive, but I know they are the best quality possible and I'll have them for my whole life. If you're buying jewelry for a special occasion, I do think it's worth it. Ursula worked with me at the store and she was very helpful. I came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was totally empty, so she gave me her full attention and I was able to spend plenty of time trying on earrings to make sure I got the right pair. She was also great about showing me pieces within my budget and making sure to consider the style of my dress and wedding. It was such a great experience! If I could afford it, I'd shop here all the time. Sadly that's not the case, but maybe someday. read more

It's a small store, and the variety on display is definitely limited, but the people there are incredibly helpful, patient, and will explain things to you even if they don't think you will buy anything. My experience with this store has been very good. I lost one of the earrings from my lovely set of Mikimoto Akoya pearl collections. When I checked the Mikimoto website to replace it, I discovered that style was discontinued. I bought a new pair that looked similar but was not the same. So I went over to the Mikimoto store on Fifth Avenue and discussed the situation with Matthew Giusto. He said the style was no longer available but he could send the one earring to their branch in Asia and have them custom make it's mate. I agreed to go along with the plan. It took 4 months but I got my earring replaced last week. Perfect match as you can see. I am very pleased with the service, craftsmanship and professionalism of this store. read more

My mother was in town for 3 days and needed her pearl necklace restrung before she departed. I came into the store on a Monday night and was greeted by a pleasant doorman who opened the door for me. I walked in and made my way toward the closest employee (who was perfectly postured behind the glass counter). I explained my situation and she offered to rush the order at no additional cost in order to have it done by Wednesday night or Thursday morning. She said she would call me Wednesday to confirm with me. Wednesday evening rolls around and still no phone call. I called the store to check the status and there was a bunch of confusion to say the least. (like where the necklace was, if it was done, if they had it, they couldn't find the receipt on file, etc.) Finally, after a bunch of back and forth we were informed that the necklace was ready to be picked up. Pick up went smoothly. I appreciate the effort put forth by the people working in customer service; however, they need to get their admin department a little more organized when you call.. Let's start with the almost bad: maybe we didn't make such a good first impression to the staff since my sister and I walked in with our 6'5" skater friend...who was actually carrying a skateboard hahaha. So it took a little while to get some attention (the store was kind of busy). I used to love Mikimoto. I love pearls! My mom got a ring at the Japan store about 3 years ago. She wore it for about a year and then the pearl fell off. Since she lives in Mexico, she had a local jeweler fix it. Not long after, it fell off again, but she tought it was the jeweler's fault. She didn't wear it for about a year, she was waiting to come to New York so that she could have the store fix it. We went in and they told us they could fix it for 80 dollars. This was my first problem, because if you are buying a piece from Mikimoto, it has a reputation and they should back their jewelry. I mean, you are not buying at Walmart, where I would expect this. Anyways, we agreed to have it fixed and have it shipped to my home in Boston. When the ring was ready we got a call from Mikimoto saying it was going to be the $80 plus $10 for "gluing" it and $15 for shipping. Total of $105 for fixing the pearl that should not have fallen off the first time. Also, I have shipped stuff several times and shipping a ring has never cost me $15 dollars. And what is up with the gluing price tag???? Plus what made me even more mad was that during the week that my mom was here with me the pearl of her earring fell off !!!! Also a pair of MIKIMOTO earrings. I told this to the sales associate, Miko, and she just said to bring it to have it fixed. Yeah right, and pay $100 for gluing back a pearl that should not have fallen off the first place????? I am extremely disappointed in Mikimoto and Will NOT buy anything there again. I might as well buy a pearl in any other store and know that i will have to pay for repairs but knowing that I Will not pay the high price in the first place. Amazing jewellery shopping experience! Armed with a bit of online pearl research, I was ready to do some anniversary shopping. After reading about the history and quality of Mikimoto, I was ready to buy and had umpteen questions for anyone helping me. I was promptly greeted by Ursula in the lovely boutique store, who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the different types and qualities of pearls. Never rushing me, she patiently showed me different pendants and strands and answered all of my questions. She was always mindful of the budget I mentioned and never tried to exceed it. In fact she recommended something under budget when I finally decided exactly what I wanted. The shopping experience was so pleasant. I went to mikimoto and was attended to by a very polite staff who gave me his name card. I then went to Tiffany's to check out their pearls- BAD SERVICE. Level 1 was still ok but I was pointed to level 3 where the cheaper pearls were. The sales lady ignored me, kept talking to her friend about some eBay refund item and I felt like an intruder to their conversation. I went back to mikimoto and promptly bought a pair from another sales staff who was equally attentive. He showed me the various sizes, then the grades. He was experienced to know I couldn't tell the difference and subtly pointed me to the A grade after he told me it takes experience to see the difference. I loved the pearl studs. I have been a customer at Mikimoto for decades and have several pieces, which my husband gave to me or I purchased myself. My mother-in-law had many items as well, and I always understood that for pearl jewelry, Mikimoto was the only place to shop. I was shocked and embarrassed when I brought in my very old pearl necklace with its original silk case to be restrung (which I've done over the years) and was accused of presenting a bogus pearls with a false clasp for restringing, with the intention of reselling them on the web as an authentic Mikimoto necklace. I can't imagine anyone devising such a scam, let alone being accused of running something like that myself. I was horrified, humiliated and deeply hurt. The woman I dealt with was absolutely, viciously relentless and did not care that the previous restringing I'd arranged for (a three-strand bracelet) was handled by a young and charming Mr.Mikimoto during his New York internship. The service was documented. I know where else to shop for pearls and will go there in the future. read more
