Come here if you want your mower fixed right--just don't expect it back fast. I brought in a family lawn mower that wouldn't start, and chose Mike's Mower Shop based on good reviews. His shop has limited hours (8 am-12 pm, Tue-Sat) and he quoted a 4-week turnaround. It ended up taking about 12 weeks, with multiple delays and minimal updates. That said, when we finally got it back in mid-June, the mower worked perfectly and hasn't had a single issue since. If you need fast service, this may not be the right spot. I would not recommend Mike Mower for any repair tune-up or anything else. It's my first and last time I'll ever go to his shop.  It took over six weeks to get a lawnmower repair.  The mower works/runs worst after a tune-up and carburetor cleaning that costed approximately 140 dollars, cash only. That is the going rate 2024.  It takes over 10-20 pulls to crank the lawnmower engine to start. He removed parts from my lawnmower not asked to.  The throttle was put on backwards. I really thought he was an honest small business and person from reviews given. I don't trust he to do the right thing. My advice find someone else immediately. Mike is a very low-key, no bullshit guy, but he is honest and charges very reasonable rates. Highly recommend if you have an old mower that needs to be fixed up, or just need a small repair. It's a little hard to find his shop, and his hours are limited on the weekend, so make sure you call first. read more

I hate to leave a 1 star, as I've come to know the owner, & he's a nice guy. Unfortunately, I had been taking my mower to him for years with no issues. But this last spring season, I was taking my mower to Mike's Mower Shop practically every week. He'd fix the problem but once I'd get it home, it would only work for 1 mow then would stop. On top of that, gas kept leaking into the air filter, which is what I thought was causing the mower to keep stopping. I would ask Mike, what can I do to prevent this, if any? He seemed to think it was the quality of gas used, but didn't give a better solution. He also tried explaining by showing me the clogged part from the bad gasoline, saying there weren't any tools to get it out. The last time I brought it to him, after about 4-5 times of bringing it in, he did whatever he did to 'fix' it, even saying he 'guaranteed' it this time. So, when I brought it home to mow my front yard & it stopped mid-mow, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Fortunately for me, I found a place that was able to repair it, who did have the tools, & I haven't had a mower issue since. 'Mike is a lovely gentleman that knows small engines. I've used him for quite a few years. Lately, I brought him my awesome older Lawn Boy self-propelled lawnmower. He fixed it good as new. I brought him my 2 Stihl weed eaters, one just needed a tuneup and the other I hadn't used in over 10 yrs. He fixed that older one, no problem. To top it off, the prices for fixing all three was $250. I call that a bargain compared to buying a new self propelled lawn mower, and 2 Stihl weed eaters! Great service. Had a 12-year-old, woefully maintained Honda mower that couldn't finish the lawn without stalling out. Took it to Mike, two days and about $130 later the thing runs like it's brand new. He helped load and unload it from my truck, gave me advice on best fuel to use and saved me hundreds on buying a new mower. I'm very pleased I found this shop. Mike is right. He's the best in town. Came over to pick up my Craftsman mower this morning and it work like magic. He advices me to mix ethanol oil with gas on each use. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Gas powered pressure washer needs repair, so I find Mike's and take it in on 3/15/17. Mike says it will take 3 weeks. I'm hesitant to leave it there that long, but I decide I can wait 3 weeks so I leave it. Fast forward to April 5th..(3 weeks later) I call to check and he then says... "I didn't say 3 weeks, I said 3-6 weeks?... I should have it done next week though". So I call back once a week and get the same B.S. EVERY WEEK. At last on May 9th, it's ready. That is 1 day shy of 8 weeks. So I pay the $110.89 ... CASH ONLY by the way, and take it home. The very first time I use it, it runs for 10 minutes.. dies and I cannot get it started again and fuel is leaking out visibly. I'm plenty pissed, but I take it back -hoping this will be a quick fix. He calls me later that afternoon and tells me "Your pump is bad, The least expensive one I can find is $310" - I ask how it is that a "repaired pressure washer" lasts 10 minutes" If I needed a pump today, I probably needed a pump 8 weeks ago. He then says "I don't fix pumps, I only fix engines". No money back. No apologies. He says he tested it before I picked it up and everything worked great. He then says he told me in the very beginning, the day I dropped it off, that he doesn't work on pumps, only fixes the engine. So that's at least 2 complete lies in one transaction. My next step it to take it to a more reputable repairman and pay him whatever it costs to tell me exactly what's wrong with it and exactly what Mike really did. read more

Great small engine mechanic. Bought a nice Toro used lawnmower with pwr assist. It had all been redone for the season. It has worked perfectly since I bought it. Pull cord was dry rotted and he later replaced it. 30 day warranty. Get a receipt. Fair price. Very happy w this purchase made back in the Springtime. I see he had no reviews. I opted not to repair the item and he charged me nothing even though he had obviously spent time tearing into the machine to find the problem. Ok...so the long of the short is that yes, just as a previous reviewer stated, Mike is a super nice guy thus bumping customer service up to a 4 however, I could not give my recent experience such a high mark. Here's the real issue: I brought my mower to Mike, it required a much needed tune-up. I requested new tires, and a new blade as my mower is older. Mike was kind enough to advise that if he had some older tires, he would put them on my mower, and he gave me an estimate of roughly $140 to tune up, change blade, and throw in some used tires, and that it would probably take a week and half before he was done fixing it. So fast fwd, a week and a half has passed and Mike calls me to come back to his shop to pick up my mower. I arrive at his shop, he pulls the mower out, he pulls out the invoice, and I pay. Well, he goes to demonstrate that the mower would fire right up, and it won't start (Whomp, Whomp, Whomp, Whommpppp) My first reaction is, "hummmmm you've had it a week and half, it's been sitting - maybe the work caused it to get out of sorts. My second reaction is, "I brought it in for a tune-up, I've just handed you a hundred and some odd dollars, and it won't start?" He proceeds to pump the primer bulb, he then tries to start it up again, and nothing. He pumps the primer bulb again, and then tells me that the bulb is off centered, and that if I have this problem in the future to bring the lawn-mower back to him for repair. RED FLAG! RED FLAG! RED FLAG! REALLY?!!!!! Mind you, I haven't left the shop, but you want me to drive all the way back to the Arden area from Gold River, which is 25 miles from your shop, and bring it back? What kind of grass are you smoking? After another attempt of priming and attempting to start the engine, it FINALLY started.... Very skeptically, I allowed Mike to help me load it in my car, and I was on my back across town. Well the rain subsided, and I was able to get in the yard to mow...so I repeated the same process; priming, and pulling, priming and pulling and FINALLY the mower started....(SMH). While mowing, I noticed that the cut grass should have had a more even, and precise look than it did, and when I was finished mowing my lawn I thought, I should check to see if the blade was actually changed. Guess what? The blade hadn't even been changed - Alright let's analyze this situation....if you only performed a tune-up, and installed 2 used tires, which probably only took 1 hour at the most you really have one hell of an hourly rate. Good for you, but as the old idiom states," Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." As one of your other 1 star raters stated, "you've gotta up your game, not your scam game to stay in business." read more

Took my 25+year old Echo string trimmer to Mike (would only run wide-open, but would not idle). Mike determined that it needed a new carburetor, and after much searching, I finally found one. Brought a Power Trim edger to Mikes Mower Shop that I used to use as a kid around 15-20 years ago to edge Grandmas lawn.. My dad held onto it after she passed and when it finally died out I always said I'd find someone to get her runnin again... Mike took great pleasure in fixing the carburetor issue I had and was quite surprised that the edger that probably dates back to the late 70's was as clean as it was.. He was even generous enough to give me a bolt for Free that Bar Hein wanted 8$ for and they were "both used" bolts...If I ever have another issue with any equipment I know where I will be headed.
