Driving on 880 toward Berkeley when a pebble hit my windshield on the driver side, creating a crack from the bottom, and spreading across the window. Now if it was the wife's car I wouldn't have worried, and continued driving the car. However it was a car I was preparing to sale, and so needed a new windshield. Called up my auto insurance, and Geico said I had a $1000 comprehensive deductible. Translation: you're SOL and on your own buddy. They did give me a quote of $369 for a 1998 Honda Civic 4 door sedan windshield, and a referral with Safeco auto glass. Safeco has a mobile dispatcher, and can replace the windshield at your workplace or your home. Friday morning called up Mt. View Auto Glass, and they gave me a quote of $189. Asked if they could do it that day, and they said no way Jose. Michael, the boss, told me to call him Monday morning. They have to order the glass. Everything filled up until Monday 3pm. I leave a message Monday morning about my 3pm appt. 3pm I arrive, and no replacement windshield. Get a message from Michael that he's unavailable but has the new windshield, and will give me a discount for my inconvenience. Tuesday 3pm I arrive a second time at MVAG. It has been raining all day, and the shop has a panel truck inside having it's windows replaced. So my car will have to be repaired outside. I'm SOL if it starts raining, as the windshield replacement takes 1 hour, with both front windows all the way down. No pictures as Michael doesn't want me watching him work, let alone taking pictures of him. Grumpy, camera shy, or protecting industrial secrets? Mr. personality he aint! Replacing the windshield is a bitch, as the engine hood has to be opened, and the windshield mountings and weather stripping removed. Old windshield removed, and new windshield installed, with the help of something similar to gorilla glue. Car has tape over the sides of the new windshield, as it takes 3 days for the glue to dry. Car looks like it has been in a fight, with bandages over it's eyes. Michael bills me $169, after a $20 discount for missing Monday's appt. I give a $75 voucher on Yelp, which cost me $50. Final cost $94. Michael says I'm making out like bandits! read more

TLDR: Mike has rude, a-hole attitude and is not punctual with time. Take your money elsewhere to decent human beings. Firstly, our interaction began through phone calls and texts, for a windshield chip repair for $65, ultimately confirming a 9AM Friday appointment on the Wednesday prior. At 8:50AM Friday I text him that I'm on my way, to give him a heads up. I arrive at 9:15AM and call him. He responds that he thought I was coming yesterday, to which I reply, "no, we confirmed through text for 9AM Friday". I could hear him grunting over the phone, saying "damnit OK i'll be there in 40 minutes". At this point I should have taken my business elsewhere but my apathy got the best of me since I was already there to drop-off the car and his price is cheap. I left my keys on his desk with my contact info as instructed by him. Fast forward to 2 hours later when I go pick up my car on my bike. As I park my bike behind my car, a man approaches from his pickup truck so I greet him. As I inspect the repair site, I can feel a cavity in the glass as I gently run the back of my fingernail along the glass, and ask him if that is OK or if it needs to be filled more thoroughly. He got SO defensive, scrunching up his face, asking what do you mean? this is silky smooth, man! He runs his finger over the site and says he can't feel a thing. I'm upset now, and insist that I can feel a cavity. Instead of trying to explain the repair, he scoffs and me and waves his hand with disregard for my concern. He reluctantly says "fine" and injects clear resin into the cavity, and demands me to back up my car into the sun. I was livid so I told him he's got bad attitude which I don't appreciate. I waited patiently for the resin to cure for a few minutes, he cleaned up the glass, I paid, and left. read more

At around 9am on a Thursday morning, I backed my SUV into a storage unit and smashed the rear window liftgate to smithereens. I thought it was going to cost me days and $$$ to fix, neither of which I could afford. If I could give zero stars, I would. Had a crack side mirror that needed the glass to be fixed/replaced. Mike looked at it and said he'll ordered a replacement. When the replacement came, I booked an appointment to have it fixed. It turns out to be one of those stick on mirrors that you put over the cracked glass. Quoted me $100, to slap the stick on mirror over the crack glass. I thought fine, not that big of deal, as long as it does the job. Then after I got home, I noticed the mirror was a bit off, so I tried to adjust it to fit my view - and it won't move. I reached out to Mike and asked why can't the mirror be adjusted anymore, and if the size is incorrect. He replies back with "That was all that they had and if it's oversized, then we can we can always order a more expensive one directly from BMW." I couldn't believe that response. If I wanted to get one directly from BMW, then I'll just go to the dealership and get it done, why would I need you to do it?! Now I am stuck with a side mirror that can't be adjusted for my view. Zero accountability for the fact that you ordered something that didn't fit just because you thought it was the cheapest one you can find, so you can pocket more money for yourself is just terrible service. Put no effort into providing a remedy for him screwing up his own job. AVOID THIS PLACE!! read more

Someone broke my car's window so I called this place to see whether they can fix it. In summary: - Mike installed the wrong kind of glass, then had to remove it - He has no sense of customer satisfaction I had a really bad customer interaction, probably the worst I have seen so far. First, he didn't like me watching his work, asked me to stay outside the "red box". Sure, I stayed outside his box, but I noticed that he was pretty rough with the car, so I didn't like leaving him alone with the car. After he installed the glass, he called me and said he "doesn't think this is the right kind of glass, because the original one had holes and this one didn't". He should have let me know before he did all the work. He said I could keep this temporarily until he finds the right kind of glass or he could remove it. But he proceeded as if I agreed to keep it. I didn't like the idea of him installing another glass on my car because he was rough so I asked him to remove it. If you expect decent customer service stay far away from this place. read more

I posted a longer review because I was not satisfied with the way that the owner treated my family for the last few weeks. I've decided to shorten it because I think I've gotten my point across. Fact is, mike the install guy is a cool dude. The owner may provide great prices, but he doesn't know how to treat people right. As you can see from the other yelp reviews, they all have the same complaints. You may get quoted a cheaper price but the truth is a cheaper price doesn't come with customer service and a warranty. I called to check if they have any guarantees for workmanship against damaging the car during windshield replacement and the technician apparently got insulted saying he's been doing this for 24yrs and then hung up on me. I dislike cars and anything to do with them, so when the glass on the passenger's side window fell down into the door while I was driving back home, it was definitely difficult and sad moment for me. I came here the next day. They quoted me Luckily cheaper than what I thought, it was a bracket not the motor that broke. Visit was a total of 1 hours without an appt. I had a chip on my windshield, called mike to make a schedule, the price is $60, which is actually quite low compare to other places, the process took about 15min. I was quite pleased with the process. the chip is still very noticeable but I'm happy as long as the chip is filled. Unfortunately, the filler comes out from the repair hole in the next day without any car wash or anything, and the filler that comes out is white soft instead of transparent and hard, I have to pick up a windshield repair kit to fill that hole, the resin comes in the kit is much more clear. I really think mike is a good person, but for me, the fix wasn't quite there, I really wish I did it by myself in the first place so I can have much more clear resin fill in the chip. read more

I made an appointment online, got a quote for the work in a clearly stated confirmation email for my appointment date (but no TIME indicated); the email text said someone would be in touch, but no one called. I followed up two days later and left a voicemail saying I needed to know what time to show up, but got no response. So I decided to show up on the appointed day, prepared to leave my car there all day if necessary. But the solo owner/operator had apparently decided to take the day off!!! You don't go there for the smiles that for sure, you go there to get your window fixed, fast. Got my car broken into and I first tried my Mazda dealer to get it fixed. Very elusive response, we don't have the part, could take up to a week to get it, etc... so I decided to try this place. The guy made a phone call, told me he would have the piece delivered in 3 hours. Came back 4 hours later, my window was replaced in 20 Minutes. That is worth 5 stars. I only left 4 stars though because while I don't really care about fake smiles and customer service usually, these guys are a little grumpy and should probably hire a customer facing person... For instance I was hanging by my car outside, it was a nice day and I was told: "would you mind going inside or to Starbucks? I work better w/o an audience." Lol. And the way the older gentleman (I am guessing the manager) orders you to park your car to the spot of his choice and looks at you like you are a total moron. Gets on my nerve a little bit.
