This is my other fav guitar shop to go and hang out and talk shop. Varied types of vintage and new guitars hang there for sale. But the most business comes from people taking music lessons. Max has 4 lesson rooms that are nearly full each and every day. He has a great group of instructors for guitar, bass, drum, and piano. They also do the most setups that I've ever seen - except for maybe Guitarcenter. Separately, Max is a gifted multi instrumentalist, a former Eagle Scout, and is one of the founders of a great band called Twin Jones. Sort of Sloan meets the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

This was a sentimental project and I was prepared to put up some cash. Geoff got the guitar sounding and looking amazing at a fair and reasonable price. It was pretty much half of what I thought I was going to have to spend for what I wanted done. I really like that he's up front and honest. He'll never try to upsell you and will tell you if something doesn't need changing. He also cares about the materials he works with and will re-purpose whatever he can, which I think is pretty cool. Sometimes you gotta be a little patient, but he always comes thru. He does great work that speaks for itself but he goes the extra mile. The guy is clearly passionate about what he does. I'm loving this guitar! I highly recommend him. And not just for guitars. Last time I was there he was working on a small stringed instrument I never knew existed.

When I got the thing I was like "ok this will just be wall art" it was so bad. Twisted and warped neck, electronics they must have been previously repaired by a toddler. Now it sounds exactly like I wanted it too. The pricing for the repairs was also very reasonable, I almost feel like I didn't pay enough for how clapped out it was. That's also not the only one I've brought them. I fully trust using them for repairs. Also; I had originally called other shops that were saying 2 week minimums or longer, and they did this all in like 2 for the neck and had it overnight for the electronic when I came back for that.

Great inventory, friendly, informative staff. There are always a couple of astonishingly cool instruments up on the wall. This is what a good guitar store should be. The perfect example this week. I'm playing an octave mandolin, and one of the guys there walks over to see if I need any help, and to chat. We talk about guitars, and he says I have to try one. He puts this amazing acoustic in my hands. First of all, it weighs a ton. And the sound. The lower register practically hits me in the chest. It was the most amazing instrument I have ever played. And a teensy bit out of my price range at 12k. Yeah, the guy put that in my hands, he knew I'd like it. He probably does that with a fair amount of people, most of us could never afford it. But that is the sort of place it is. Here, play this amazing instrument. That's a good store.

Update 08/01/26. I…read morereceived a mail blast email today from the owner's mailbot informing me that the store was closing. Good riddance. Since my initial review (see below), I've spent over $40k on instruments and gear and Guitar Works received not one single penny. Their "I don't give a shit" attitude when I went there--on all three occasions I tried to give them my business--cost them. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did. One of the reasons the owner gave for closing the store was "the outrageously increased costs of property taxes". Taxes are the price of admission to a civilized society, my friend. Looks like the owner's attitude was what filtered down to the employees when I went there.

Joe cleaned up the files and "restored" the audio quality. He provided both MP3 files and higher quality audio files. Getting the files was easy- Joe provided us with a download link for quick access. Pricing was reasonable for the quality of work and turnaround time. For a fee of $100/tape in addition to the hourly rate, we received expedited service.

I brought my Heritage H-575 guitar to get it set up because it was a pain to play and I rarely…read moreplayed it. The back story is that the guitar was leaned on a swivel chair and it fell over breaking the head stock. So I sent it back to Heritage and they replaced the neck keeping my tree of life inlay on an ebony finger board in tact. Since it was returned, it played horribly. The high E string kept falling off and the action was high and I rarely played it. So I brought it over the Players hoping a set up was all I needed but was prepared for the worst. Well, Mike looked at it and said it needed a new nut and fret job. The fret job would be difficult with the inlay on an ebony board and that it may not be perfect but would still play great. I appreciated the upfront honesty. I told them to go ahead with the job. A week or so later I got the call to pick it up and I was blown away. They did a super-fantastic job and pointed out one "blemish" around the 16th fret. I would never had noticed if it wasn't pointed out as it was minuscule. The guitar plays great now and I pick it up more often than my other guitars. Also, during my visit, we talked about humidity and another guitar related stuff. Mike had great advice and I followed it. This is a stand-up shop and all the staff there were great as well as other customers that came into the store. I'd rate them higher if I could.

You didn't just lose a customer. You bought this review…read more I was a good customer. When I brought in my Number Two Stratocaster, I told Mike that there was a little buzzing at a couple places. I thought the truss rod needed a slight adjustment, nothing more. But Mike disagreed and said the guitar needed fret work. When I got the guitar back, it was fretting out, a problem that didn't exist before Jerry had aggressively removed material from the frets. Jerry admitted that he had done so, and apologized profusely over the phone, and told me to bring the instrument back. When I returned with the guitar, instead of being treated well, Jerry was quite elevated, aggravated and got loud. As though he was speaking to someone whom he might bully, instead of someone who has been playing guitar for 60 years, he ineptly attempted to prove he'd done nothing wrong, when he should have offered to do whatever it would take to make it right. That's what a gentleman and good business person would do. I do not care how long Mike says he's been in business. That is not the point. Jerry plugged in the guitar to a Line 6 amp with all the effects going, and hit the guitar hard to prove it was really okay. I know better, and showed him how the guitar was fretting out, and now it wouldn't even sustain a single plucked note at the tenth fret. Then, Jerry added insult to injury. He said these "deeply radiused" fretboards always fret out when you stretch the strings. NOT TRUE. I have owned many 9.5 inch radiused Stratocasters and NOT ONE of them ever had that issue... EVER. Then, Jerry got angrier, pulled the plug on the amp, and told me he was refunding my money. Here's the kicker: I brought the guitar downtown to a reputable shop and guess what? They made some adjustments, filed the nut slots a little, checked the action and intonation, AND adjusted the truss rod! That's exactly where I thought the problem was. No one can put back the fret material Jerry filed off. It probably took a year of life off my frets, which means an expensive fret job is that much sooner. But the guys at Players Guitars were wrong with their work... and wrong with their bad treatment. There are much better options than Players, but their name should warn you. Their work is hit or miss. And when they miss, don't be surprised if they try to play you. If you love your instrument and deserve respect, go elsewhere...
