I've changed my review because of how my complaint was handled by Mike D. I was kept waiting for 45 minutes by Heather and never assisted in the framing department. Heather ignored me and continued to help other customers who can in the store after I did. I should have walked out after being ignored for 15 minutes, but I was repeatedly told she would be with me shortly. Total UPSELL I needed new memory cards for my nylon D750 I went in to Mike's and after waiting 10 minutes, there was only person on the floor and she was on a protracted phone call that seem to be about nothing. I explained my situation and I asked asked what I had before. "I can't remember" Are you going to shoot video "yes maybe a little" So I was offered two 128BG for ~$350.00 I thought to my self wow these have really gone up in price but need ed them for a trip paid and left On my trip I ran into a professional photographer and he said you got taken unless you are shooting hours of video you could easily get away with 32GB or 64GB and saved your self probably $200. By the way 2 12bGB cards hold 7,500 photos. read more

Who takes the most flattering passport photo in Denver? That would be Brandon Taylor. He nailed it on the second shot, and you can tell he really cares that you look your best. It was ready in less than 5 minutes, and I felt great when I left. I wish I could take him to the DMV with me, because they have no passion for taking your photo. He also helped me out a while back, to design some really unique metal frames. Finding friendly service is rare, and if more people were like Brandon, that would be so lovely. read more

Great staff at this location. I came in with a piece of artwork that I wanted to have printed. It was drawn on off-white paper which presented challenges in printing and scanning. Alyssa and Linda went above and beyond with their persistent service until the product was satisfactory. They genuinely cared. I will be returning to this location for any camera and printing services in the future. I took my camera, a Pentax and an $1800.00 lense to see if we could trade . . well, in not time, this guy offers me $130.00 for the lense, so I say, wait a minute. I would like to thank Terry at Mike's Camera for helping me find a new lens the other day. I recently visited Mike's Camera to purchase a new telephoto lens. I had an idea of what I wanted to purchase but needed to spend some time talking to someone about my options. I called ahead to see if I needed to make an appointment and Terry, who answered the phone, said it was not a problem and to come on in. So, a few hours later I headed over. Terry talked to me about each lens option and their benefits. He was very thorough and didn't rush me at all. This was a big investment and I needed time to make the right decision. He understood and was very patient. I ended up purchasing a great lens at a great deal. GREAT EXPERIENCE! I ended up buying a Sony a 6400 camera. The experience was very easy I called before they said they had one in stock and I went to the store and their it was. After buying the camera I realize they actually took my SD card. Because this location was so far away I cannot drive back to the store for the next day to shoot video. They were able to work with me and give me an SD card that day so I could keep running my business. It was a great experience and I highly recommend this company. read more

I feel like most equipment rental spots, be it party supplies, camera gear, whatever, seem to be a little antiquated in their operations. Mike's Camera was no different. I needed to rent a screen and projector for a presentation I was doing and found their site after a quick search on the webs. They had just what I needed--an LCD projector and large screen--so I sent an email to their "rentals" alias. They responded and said I needed to call them, but when I did, the rentals extension was out of service. I emailed again and was given new call instructions--at this point already finding the process a little tedious. When I finally got in touch with the folks at Mike's Camera, I let them know that I was doing a presentations at 10 am and 5:30 pm on a Wednesday. They told me I could pick up at 9 am on Wednesday and return the next day OR pick up on Tuesday but return by 7 pm on Wednesday. I explained to them how this was tricky--I'd either be rushing to get the projector and set up for the morning presentation or rushing out at the end of the day to get the rentals back. Was there any way we could shift those 46 hours to make this less stressful? Nope, not without paying an extra $96. Okay. I chose the morning rush + stress option and put down my deposit. I arrived a few minutes after 9 on the morning of the presentation and let the gentleman know that I was there to pick up some rentals and that I was in a bit of a hurry. The guy just looked at me and said "Well I hope they're here--our truck hasn't come in yet." On the brink of a minor panic attack, I bit my tongue and said "Yeah, I hope they're here too." He went back and found the equipment (phew), took my payment, and off I raced across town to present. The equipment wasn't in particularly great shape--at the end of the day, three of us tried (unsuccessfully) to roll the screen back up. At the end of the day, I found what I needed and everything got done. Was it simple, stress free, or pleasant? Nope, which is a bummer, because I'd hesitate to come here for anything camera-related at this point. It's 2017 y'all, and seamless ordering is where it's at. That, plus a little old school friendly customer service, would go a long way here at Mike's Camera. read more

He said he hadn't performed that particular repair in 15 years... but still handled it like he had done it yesterday. I went into the store with very limited knowledge about photography gear and walked out feeling extremely well informed by the staff, who not only walked me through all the features of the equipment I was purchasing but also offered tips, techniques, and suggestions for handling the equipment and ultimately making better photographs. Afterward, I went home and practiced some of the techniques and saw immediate improvements in my photo quality. I feared that the equipment would cost me quite a bit, but in the end the cost was within my budget. I'd love to return to Mike's as I continue to grow into photography and as other items become necessary to me in the future. read more

We went in with an old Polaroid 104 camera asking lots of questions about it and seeing if it would still shoot. Didn't catch the mans name who helped us but he had blonde hair and green bandana mask, anyway, he was very knowledgeable about the camera and spent a while telling us about it. I stopped into Mike's camera the other day after finding some very old odd sized negatives that I needed to develop for my father's mile stone birthday. Clayton went out of his way to make this happen! Within only a couple of hours I picked them up from Mani, she was another gracious and accommodating employee ,(it was starting to sleet and she gave me a very nice recycle bag to protect my photographs in), These beautiful 8 x 12 photographs were from negatives that were over 50 years old! I went in for a new camera bag and a few other accessories. When I entered the store none of the employees acknowledged or greeted me and the store was pretty dead. I made my way to the camera bags and was impressed with the selection. I looked for probably 20 minutes or so comparing the features of the different bags. Still no one acknowledged I was in the store. I googled the bags with the questions I had since the employees were busy chatting with one another. I picked out a bag and proceeded to browse for the few other things I needed for another 10 or 15 minutes and still no one has acknowledged me or asked if I needed anything... I walked up to the counter to check out and the man looked at me like I was interrupting him, but checked me out quickly and I was on my way. Overall it was an odd experience. Giving them 3 stars because of their wide selection and because they had everything I was looking for in stock and at a good price but I don't think I'll be back. No one was rude but they weren't friendly either. If I wanted that little interaction with the staff I would've just shopped online. read more

One of the worst websites for ordering prints online. However, one of the only places locally to have prints done. Its even just as much of a pain to use their in-store kiosks as they never work properly. Mike's was a savior for me! After encountering hardware problems in both my primary and backup camera, and fearing I had lost an entire day's worth of interview footage, I frantically called around looking for anyone who'd let me rent a camera and test my CF cards. Jonathan at Mike's Camera went WAY above and beyond to calm my fears, helped test my cards (on multiple computers with multiple card readees) to make sure my footage was safe, and gave me a GREAT rate on a one-day rental of a camera I needed to continue. The rest of the shoot went swimmingly and we finished ahead of schedule with great footage! Johnathan didn't have to be as accomodating, understanding, or helpful as he was, but he was! I was in Denver to run some errands (ok, do some shopping) and decided to look for a camera backpack that was recommended. I entered the store, no 'Welcome to Mike's Camera!', no greeting at all. The entire 15min I spent looking at bags, only one person passed me and I thought she was a customer until I turned around when she asked someone in the row behind me if they needed help. I decided to leave after that and noticed multiple pairs of eyes on me as I left. Not sure where they thought I could hide a backpack since I was empty handed but you can believe I won't set foot in there again. read more

I have been into this store a few times before but this time was different. A few months ago, I walked in the store and a guy named Jonathan Shoup (or at least thats what it says on his card) was at the register closest to door and greeted me. He asked me if I had any questions, and being kind of a newb photographer, I had plenty. Immediately Jonathan made me feel at ease. Sometimes when people in a position such as his, tend to talk down to a beginner like myself. Not once did I feel like he did this to me. It was the perfect mixture of being VERY knowledgable, feeling me out to see what my skill level was, then delivering in a way that was very informative but not condescending. We talked for probably an hour, I picked his brain, and he had an answer for everything I asked him. At no point did he rush me, or act like I was annoying him (which I more than likely was:)) and I found out later, that he was suppose to be done working 20 min before our conversation ended. He stayed, just to make sure I was taken care of. If I wouldn't have had that conversation with Jonathan that day, I would be buying everything online. Since then, I have bought a tripod, diffusers, Rented lenses (recommended by Jonathan) ,flashes etc. I would come in, tell him about what kind of shoot I was doing, he recommended what lens and equipment I needed to get the shoot done. His advice hasn't failed me yet. I am excited to say, today I am going in to make my first big lens purchase. The Tamron 70-200m 2.8 for around $1,400. It has taken me a few months to save for this but I would be buying it online if it wasn't for Jonathan and his impeccable customer service, I am now a loyal customer of Mike's Camera because of Jonathan and will continue to shop there as I grow my business. read more

This is the third Mike's Camera I've visited in Denver and the experience is always the same: Rude staff, you have to seek sales associate out, then any question is met with the most cursory of information. And by information I mean a sales pitch for MC's third party, poor quality "[Pro]master series." It seems funny that they would be so uninterested in helping a person looking to buy a new camera body, studio strobe kit, SB 910, and new lens. When I'm looking to drop 2500 I really prefer to be supporting a "nice" company that gives a darn. Pros: Lots of camera equipment to look at and play with Con: Camera equipment others have sampled are sold as new. Most companies have display versions that if you buy come with a 10% discount...since you know... it's not new. Pro: Big spectrum of pricing for accessories Con: [Pro]master is the main bread and butter of company...a brand that disappoints Pro: Knowledgeable sales staff Con: Staff won't talk to you, staff doesn't answer questions in depth, Staff will push crappy Promaster over quality items. Antecdote: Mikes takes passport photos. They have a great, basic strobe lighting kit set up. The lighting kit is NOT sold at Mike's. Tons of promaster gear lays around, but they don't use it for passport photos....if they won't use it for passport photos, why would I ever consider it in my studio?! Unfortunately Mike's is a piss poor company and I highly recommend trying out new products at Mike's before buying on Amazon. read more

Dumbfounded. I'm a pro and brought in a $1,600 lens to see about a repair. A week later I learn it's a no-go, which is what I suspected since the manuf. discontinued the model. So I go to pick it up at the back counter and whomever I'm dealing with is kind of flippant about it, but does the basic job of refunding my fee. Fine, whatever. You'd think that she might say something like, "Sorry it can't be fixed. Are you interested in a new replacement perhaps?" But based on my experience, that would be giving this location too much credit. I amble over to the glass sales counter and eyeball similar lenses. At this point I need one -- this model's been my workhorse for years and I have magazine pages published every month. I wait, not very long, and there's not a soul there to help me. But wait! There is. A gaggle of employees is BSing among themselves and one actually looks at me, then turns away without missing a lick chit chatting. You'd think they'd see me as a potential customer, someone who's got a broken, expensive piece of glass for which a similar replacement would fetch around $2,000. Not a chance. Too clueless. In fact, two years ago I SWORE I'd never return here because of being blown-off in this same fashion. I don't know any of my pro photo friends who shop at Mike's. No wonder. With service (certainly not selection or price...or hefty sales tax) being the only discernible advantage a brick 'n mortar camera shop has going, you'd think they'd have figured it out. Sadly, with this lack of service, I don't see how Mike's can continue business. read more

I love standing at the counter waiting for someone to take three seconds to grab me a few rolls of film while two employees stand next to me chatting... NOT. The chick who got me my film didn't know much about the stuff. I would rather go to Denver Pro Photo just because the staff really knows their shit and Mike's is still really expensive despite being a bigger business. Might as well support a business that hires people who actually know what they're talking about and who aren't stuck up. Mike's employees can be super pushy when you're looking at expensive equipment, and if you tell them you're just looking and not ready to buy, their attitude suddenly changes. I will say that the Mike's Camera in Boulder seems to have much better employees and service. read more

I've honestly never been a fan of Mikes Camera based on the coldness I've received when visiting other locations south of Denver as a curious newbie. Carl and the team up in Wheatridge, however, changed that perspective for me. In phone calls before taking the plunge for a 2nd camera body - to the after sale with a defect in a product Carl was positive, friendly and supportive. He went above and beyond making sure I was set up to maintain my profession as quick as possible. His team was supportive of his decisions and that too helped make the issue with the product truly a non issue. Whew...because the investment we make as photographers must last as long as possible! The guys here are usually pretty knowledgable (though it can be hard to get attention sometimes), but their stock isn't good. They never have what I go in there to buy or try out. It's really just easier to buy off of Amazon for most camera equipment. read more

Mike's Camera Rules. The staff here are total photographic art and camera geeks. They have nearly everything you could think of and then some. True they are a tad expensive, but there's nothing they can't help you with. Their classes are amazing--chock full of helpful tips. They even have someone to help you with the scanners when you bring in a box of family photos for grandma's birthday, and then the albums or whatever to put it together with. Just do that on the weekdays as they get busy. If you don't want to do it, they will do it for you in a week or so. read more

A nice outpost of the Mikes Camera store, they have a good selection photo and video goods in stock. The salespeople are professional and know their goods, and like to help you get what you should get, not always the most expensive choice. I like that. They have also given me a "Pro" break on prices when I have known the prices well and asked. I have even been offered a better price just cause. Clean and well appointed store, with easy access from Colorado Blvd, I have been here many times, and will continue to visit and patronise them. Prices on Camera goods can be VERY expensive, but I rated them moderate on price starts due to the fact they have worked with me on price, whereas other photo stores in town have not. read more

I came by here to look for film for a 35mm camera. They have a variety of both black and white and color film. There is a great selection of accessories like bags and cases as well as the cameras... the wonderful cameras... The staff was really helpful. read more
