I have family who live in Boulder. They told me Mike's Camera is a first class retailer which provides excellent customer service. I share this upfront because of my experience today. When I couldn't do business with them. My situation was unique. I live out of state and wanted to buy a camera that was only available at their Denver location. I needed the camera shipped overnight to my home. When I called Mike's headquarters in Boulder, they told me they would have to get the camera to Boulder and they would ship it. But the UPS overnight shipping charge is $180. Yes, $180. So I decided to call the Denver store to see if I could pay for it over the phone and then have someone drop it off at a FedEx Office location two blocks away. That's when I learned Mike's doesn't allow phone orders. Guess they've been burnt before by unscrupulous individuals. I asked if I could order and pay online and then get someone to pick up the camera. Nope. It has to be shipped out of Boulder. I really wanted this $290 Sony point-and-click camera for a special occasion I'm going to on Thursday. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy the camera I wanted from Mike's. read more

The people are nice enough but wouldn't recommend to anyone who seriously shoots film. Their film scans came out genuinely awful. Pixelated and dusty is not the standard that should be set. And when I asked for a rescan, they refused and said they look fine. They also broke my film camera when I brought it by to get a different part of the camera checked out. They sent it out and told me they'd fix both issues for free since they broke it even more. They had my camera for two months and then sent it back to me basically saying "oh well, we didn't have the part so we can't fix it, best of luck". Both of my kids play sports and the professional pictures from cheer competitions are really expensive and you may not even get a shot of your kid. Run, don't walk. This place is awful! I sent photos via email. The photos I sent them were cropped to perfection. They cut the top of the head off of the person in the photo when they printed the photos.. I asked if they would make a correct one. I was immediate advise that they would have to charge me another $8.00 to redo It. It wouldn't cost them a mere pittance to have provided me with another N\C. I was so glad to find a camera shop in Denver that was open on Sundays, having left mine in Ohio before my Great Plains/Rockies trip. It was busy so there was a bit of a wait, but Rob was quite helpful in finding me the right point-and-shoot and accessories, including explaining the tradeoffs versus the other point-and-shoots on offer. There aren't as many choices as there might have been 10 years ago, but if you're like me and want a better camera than your cell phone's, but don't want the heft of a DSLR on your outdoor adventure, Mike's still has several choices, including an extra-rugged Olympus; I went with one of the less-rugged-but-much-more-zoom Panasonics. Also notable is that Rob didn't try to upsell me to the higher-end Panasonic with features that I wouldn't benefit from, or to the more expensive Sonys that would be better in low-light situations but not make a difference for my outdoors use case. Too many salespeople push more expensive options just because it means more revenue, so I appreciate when that isn't the case. read more

I always get great advice on what equipment to buy, or not buy, to advance my photography hobby, rather than a sales pitch. I also always get great post-purchase assistance. They carry all the major brands of cameras and related gear, with extensive inventory, and they "price match" so you won't be able to get a better price on-line or anywhere else. They also provide a 30-day "price guarantee." I recently bought a very expensive (and worth every penny) lens. At the time I purchased the lens, Mike's was offering a substantial rebate. Several weeks later, they increased the amount of the rebate on the lens. I went back to the store and they refunded me the difference so I got the benefit of the increase in the rebate. If you live in Colorado and are interested in photography at any level, there is no reason to shop anywhere other than Mikes Camera! read more

I've been going to Mike's for years now for film developing and scans. It's by far the best quality, quickest, and most friendly place I've experienced. But aside from film development, I recently brought in a very old and rare 35mm camera that seemed like something was wrong with it and needed some advice. Update: Edit: I just picked up my camera. Brought my own lens and memory card to make sure Mike's Camera wasn't going to mess with me again. Immediately, after opening it inside the store, I see a hair on the sensor. I address this and some old man takes a handkerchief (don't know where it's been but it's dusty) and rubs all inside my camera on the mirror and sensor. Suddenly, a blue spot appears in the viewfinder and the hair is still there, in addition to millions of dust specks he just spread. I ask for a can of compressed air - they don't have any. So I went to the DJI store and was greeted with a nasty response in regards to price matching a camera. That being said, I contacted Mikes Camera. I mentioned seeing every major retailer having it well under what many had it priced at. Carl or Ryan (forgot the name) at the Wheatridge location price matched me, called me back and got me a camera held at this location. I came in and was greeted by a store clerk who went back and got the camera. The manager Jen who was polite came out and honored the price match and also got me setup with the correct memory card. I've been hesitant to go to Mike's Camera over the years. I think mostly because I assumed that they were over priced or snobby. Guess you shouldn't make assumptions! I came in looking for a comparable camera to a Nikon S9500 (just an easy peasy point and shoot) camera of mine that had an unfortunate incident trail riding and now has so much dust in it that the lens jams. Ugh! While I have owned many Canon cameras in the past and have a Canon DSLR, I did plenty of research ahead of time and found that comparable Canon cameras didn't have some of the features I was looking for in replacing my Nikon. I had the pleasure of working with Terry during my visit who was most helpful and knowledgeable of the products and promotions they were running. I inquired about not only about wanting to purchase a replacement camera, but getting my current one fixed. He gave me some excellent advice for the repairs. With the purchase of the new camera he reviewed some differences between my current camera and the newer model. Terry even called another store to get a camera that was on a killer deal for me to check out! Wow! Terry also informed me about some classes that they offer, an equipment "warranty" type of plan, and the price match policy. So so helpful! However, I don't think their pricing isn't as competitive as it could be. Especially given the availability of their products through other online marketplaces. Though I guess that's where that price match policy comes into the picture! All in all, I feel terrible that I made such low assumptions about Mike's Camera. They def earned an A-Okay rating. **Pro Tip: I will always advise anyone going to a specialty shop to do a little research before they go in. It helps to have a basic understanding of the products that are on the market and also what features matter to you. It can be overwhelming to shop when there are sooo many choices and brands on the market. read more

Mikes camera has the best customer service in town! I developed film on my new-to-me cannon Tx and Duane showed how to insert new film, tested my battery and gave me pointers! When I went back in to develope that film, I overheard Duane telling a customer who had a not-so great film camera that he would give her a better one if she paid for the film and batteries! Overhearing this, I asked if he had any other cameras and he gave me an awesome film camera from the 80s- I just had to buy battery and film! I'm pretty new to Denver so finding a new print shop was one of the first things I did to decorate my new place. I tried Target and Walgreens printing kiosks. Often broken, quality not always good. I wandered into Mike's Camera based on other Yelp reviews and I AM SO GLAD I DID. Mani Nadjmi was the smiling face who greeted me and talked me through the printing process. I came in with photos to print off my phone, and Mani made it super easy, plus the quality was really very good. Even for prints that were larger. I've gone by for other prints since then and she's always there - super patient, very friendly. Basically all the staff is incredibly nice, everyone's knowledgeable and they're all helpful. Ryan is spectacular! He's helped me out twice and I am now a regular :-) First with a mounted flash, and then with a lens. I could test them in the store when I brought my Nikon in. With Ryan as my muse, he let me photograph him as a portrait test! How nice of him to offer. I fell in love with both lenses he recommended. $2,000 for both portrait lenses I needed, so I'll be back when I get paid next week. It was recommended I call to make sure the lenses were in stock, and if not, I was offered to have them ordered next time I come in. Amazing! The staff and selection is great. They've got tripods, filters, and almost anything you could possibly need for a last minute photo shoot as well. Except maybe backdrops lol. read more

Took my son's camera in today as the SD card was jammed in it so camera wouldn't work. My son was quite upset having just purchased the camera himself. I rarely post reviews but I feel the need post this one. I went to Mike's Camera today in desperate need of some enlargement paper, to my delight they had a great supply of paper. The store was very clean, quiet and easy to navigate! But what made the experience next to worse was at check out, a sweet old man was cashing me out when he indiscreetly grabs the necklace I'm wearing and pulls me close to examine it.
