Just moved to the area and tried Mikes for the first time. First impression, the restaurant is clean and well done on the inside. Brisket was tender and flavorful and the sauce was tasty as well. The Mac and cheese was excellent the chicken was a little dry but overall still good. Service was very good as well. We will definitely be back :) read more

This place is OK. Place was clean and nice sport bar atmosphere. Food was not worth the price on the menu. My sons ordered steak and 10 minutes later the waitress informs us they are out of the steak. Service was slow, but then we were a party of 15. So I will give them a break on how long it took for the food to come out. Food was ok..my order was screwed up and I had to wait until they figured it out. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and cole slaw; meat was tough, bun very dry and cole slaw had no flavor. Always heard good things about the place...wanted to try it..now I am sorry I did. read more

Mediocre BBQ and horrible service at the best. Food is about the quality of an Applebees and our waiter never came back after taking our order. Random other waitress dropped off the food and then everyone just pretended like they didn't see us sitting there with empty glasses. Skip this overpriced dump. read more

I've been going here since the day Mikes opened. I love these people like my own family. Foods great. Owner Steve is the man. Servers are the best. Great place to watch fights, big sporting events or just relax with the family. It's super family friendly as well. Phil's who??? read more

Good pull pork SW and Tri Tip SW. Good beers on tap as well. The mango beer was amazing

Where do I even begin? Here we go.... 1. The "Hostess": First off, I don't understand why they have hostess. This place is EXACTLY set up like a fast food joint and they make you wait 40 minutes. TIP: NOT WORTH THE WAIT. 2. The food: Mediocre, dry, bland.. did I mention dry already? We waited almost 30 minutes for our tasteless DRY food. Even when you ask for more BBQ, it's still very bland. TIP: BBQ SAUCE IS GROSS. 3. Overall experience.. THIS PLACE SUCKS. If you like bbq, if you're entire being is all about bbq, if you're craving GOOD bbq, drive an extra 10-15 to San Marcos and eat at PHILS. Seriously.. this place is a joke. It won't be too long before it's out of business. SORRY MIKE, whoever you are. PHIL out did you. read more

I had a bad experience on my first visit. I placed an order for carry out, paid for it and waited, and started to get concerned when all I ordered was a pork sandwich and some mac and cheese and still had not been served or acknowledged after waiting 30 minutes in an empty dining room with no other customers present I asked the girl at the register about my order and she acted like she had no knowledge of it, so I asked for a refund and was not given an apology or an explanation, she just shrugged her shoulders and returned the money to my card. She claimed to be the shift supervisor and said there was not an owner or manager available to talk to. I was planning on booking a military retirement party here (50+ people), and dropped in to try the food, but this bad experience was enough to make me second think that and look into other options. read more

BBQ is a controversial subject. Smoked, rubbed, sauced, beef, pork, Texas, St Louis.. I could go on. I like my BBQ smoked, which is where the real flavor comes from, sauce should be in addition to an already great dish by itself. Sauce shouldn't be an afterthought, but it doesn't need to be the star of the show if your BBQ is sold. Pork is made for bacon and BBQ as far as I am concerned! Mike's BBQ knows how to smoke their meat! You can smell the goodness when you pull into their parking lot. Cords of wood are stacked inside and you are welcome to sit anywhere you'd like in the bar area to enjoy any one of their huge TVs. Their draft beer menu is impressive and they regularly update their offerings on tap hunter. If you are looking for something special, you can call ahead to verify that they still have it. The meat is smokey and pull apart goodness, I like a mix of the sweet and the spicy sauces on the side so I can slather it on here and there for extra tasty goodness. read more

Simply put, this place is VERY poorly run & barely serves mediocre food. But the sorted details of my SECOND chance with Mike's are as follows; Upon entering, you have no idea where to go, who to talk to for food, should you order at a counter near the "cafeteria seating" or go to the bar for table service? We had to ask a busboy since no one greeted us. The bar is was.... After waiting long enough with no greeting AGAIN, I got up and wandered towards the back door and grabbed myself a waitress. She is the ONLY thing in this review that didn't completely suck. She was nice and friendly, the ONE time I saw her. There were only 7 tables of people in the WHOLE restaurant @ 7:00PM on a Sunday. We ordered our food and drinks right away so as not to take the chance of being left alone for too long. (side note: We brought along our 18 month old). Drinks popped up quickly. FORTY MINUTES LATER, we never saw the waitress again, we had NO food on the table and junior was getting antsy...so were mom & dad! My husband got up, went to the bar to find our waitress and told her, "It is ridiculous that it takes this long for pre-made food to be brought out. Don't bring it out now, go back and pack it to go IMMEDIATELY." She walked away, 5 minutes more went by and still NOTHING. We left $12 on our table for the 2 drinks we didn't finish, grabbed junior and went home. I'm sure the staff enjoyed 3 nice dinners.....we had grilled cheese at home since we were now dealing with a REALLY pissed and hungry 18 month old! This place will not be in business by the end of the year...if you'd ever gone to a place (now out of business) called The Blvd in San Marcos, it rivaled this place as the worst eatery in the area. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

I've had enough of this place. The truth? It's awful. And last night sealed the deal. Got in around 9pm, ordered a Long Island that was incredibly weak. The pulled pork was a 4/10, the brisket was okay, gave it 8/10. Ordered meatY fries...Tried to joke with the waitress...she said, "WHAT KIND OF MEAT ..... We're really busy". Um. Wtf?! Whatever. Ordered pork. Took forever. Asked for it to go. Had THREE waitresses trying to figure out how we wanted our bills split up (there were four of us and I promise you, it wasn't that difficult). Finally, I asked one of the girls for one of the cards back in order to put it on top of the bill...this chick HUNG ON to the card to the point where I had to say "let go of the card..." Dang, man, I've been in the service industry for seven years. Two things you never do: tell your guests you're busy & and CLING to a method of payment. Needless to say, no tip was left and we will not return. Oh, the meaty fries? Gross. The chick said she gave us ranch...it was horseradish. GREAT JOB. read more

Run, don't walk from this horrendous establishment! I went here for my first time last week. Normally I wait to leave such a negative review until I have tried a place a couple times but this experience was so bad that I don't feel any guilt what so ever for this review. This place had some of the worst customer service I have ever seen, and the food was terrible too. When we walked into the lounge I thought hey this place looks awesome! Big tvs everywhere and HUGE beer selection. I was a little worried because the place was empty on a Satuday at like 4pm. Thats prime weekend happy hour time, why is it dead? Now I know why... One not particularly friendly woman took our drink order. Since they had such a large beer list I asked if they had any Dogfish Head?, she looked at me like I was from another planet. A second even grouchier looking woman with a stink on her face and gigantic fake breasts delivered our beers, dropped them and that was that. Then a third woman came to take our order. My husband ordered pulled pork sandwich and I ordered a hamburger. I made sure to ask the server for a side of ranch with my fries (I was a server for years, I know its a pain to have to go back for ranch so I always ask before). Quite some time later, more then the standard 15 minutes, our food came. This is where it got really bad... An overweight blonde woman brought our food, again...grouchy! She literally slammed the plates on the table and started to haul a** away from the table and I said "excuse me, side of ranch?" I kept it short because she was moving so quickly. She turned around and gave me the dirtiest look. Like how dare I ask her for something. She turned and didn't say ok, or just a minute, she just walked away. Within 30 seconds I see something fly over my shoulder and I hear a man say "Ranch!". A very tall slender bar back tossed a plastic covered ranch cup over my shoulder onto the table!!! I could not believe how incredibly rude! Finally the food was terrible, we were starving so we ate it (most of it). My order came out wrong. My husband even said his food was awful and he never complains. The service, I was fuming. We had 5 different people at our table, only one was slightly helpful. We will never be back. We left laughing thinking well, you don't know if you don't try. We tried, and that was that. It was expensive too for such a horrible experience. Last but not least there are little laminated signs on each table affixed with zip ties that say "if you are not happy, please let us know before leaving a negative yelp comment!" Yes, complete with exclamation mark to add insult to injury. Obviously they get a lot of negative feed back. Instead of condescending to your customers with silly signs, why don't you invest your time in training your DREADFUL staff! read more

My experience with Mikes has been nothing but great so far. The food is amazing, the service has been great. To be fair ive only done take out thus far, but I was able to order and pick up my food with problems. I highly recommend the lemon pepper wings the most. read more

I was aching fo Prime Rib and it was Thursday! Prime Rib night at Mike's. I have gone there several times before and the food was inconsistent, but mostly good. And the prime rib was like $15.95 with one small side. Decent price. Nice serving. Well the price has gone up to $19.99. OK I had a craving. I ordered medium rare so it would not be bloody rare. The nice staff person showed me the food very quickly. It smelled good. I was tired and hungry. I drive home, get ready to eat, and take a closer look. There are grill marks on the prime rib. I would have been OK with that--I like steak, but it was so overcooked that I could hardly cut it. I decided to call and give the restaurant helpful feedback. I got put on hold a couple of times and then finally got word back that THE OWNER wanted me to bring it back immediately (I live 20 minutes away) or by the next day. He wanted to show his cooks what not to do according to the girl on the phone. So I get to pay to train his employees. I was not even wanting another one or anything except to give constructive feedback, but the owner could not take the time to talk to me. Yukky customer service. No apology for crappy food. An owner that would not even come to the phone and offer a solution that was fair for both of us. I offered to send photos which would have shown the grill marks on the meat, but that was not enough. I had to drive to Escondido on my day off of work to return the food. I work in marketing and customer service (in Escondido---live 20 minutes away in Vista.) I would give this place no stars if that was possible. I almost want to become vegetarian after this experience. I don't know how places like this stay in business. I am a forever fan of Phil's. They would not treat a similar situation like that. read more

It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. I give it a 2.5. Restaurant - Too large for what it is, menu way too small, lay out is like a mall cafeteria with a "bar" in the corner. Play country music the whole time ...Mikes didn't get the memo that bbq is best served with the Blues. Food- Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and bbq beans. It was so so meat had a good smoke ring pink but contrary too the reviews of being dry it was rather the opposite too wet. Bbq Sauce- Bbq joints are scored on two criteria their prep style and their sauce. Their sauce is terrible. I tried the Mikes tangy, it was kind of tangy, kind of not . It was bland they need too add some pepper or spice somehow it was slightly above the sauce for a Mcrib... Service- order taker was nice every other employee looks like they hate life. Why its only a 2. The big places like Phils and Bretts have the whole package ; memorable signature sauces , excellent quality and personal service. Mikes lacks all three. It looks promising but I won't eat here again. Phils is a few exits the other way ... read more

After hearing from friends how great this place was, I decided to give it a go. I went with my son and three other people a couple of weeks ago. I didn't write a review sooner because I'm still irritated and disappointed with the experience. The beer list and drink options are on point. I'm an avid IPA drinker/taster/lover so this place was heaven to me (to start with). The food was pretty good too. I ordered the fish tacos which were tasty and my son had the Mac & Cheese with a side of brisket. The Mac & Cheese was okay but we've had better. The prices are reasonable and our waiter was accommodating and pleasant. Decor is that of a typical sports bar. Big TV's, loud people, and lots going on. Any beer lover or sports person would seemingly love this place. The reason for only 1 star is because I had an unpleasant interaction with one of the male bartenders. Our waiter was taking an unusually long time to close us out and it wasn't busy or during a game so I'm not sure what the issue was. Anyways, I politely asked a guy, who looked, talked, and acted like a staff member, to please take our bill. He wasn't behind the bar, he was walking around on the dining floor it appeared he was checking on other tables. The guy immediately looks bothered, cops an attitude, says "I don't know, I'm just a bartender" and walks away. Then he proceeds to the table next to us, which obviously were friends of his, and in a very loud and condescending tone says "I don't know why she asked me, I'm a bartender, not a server", which was followed by obnoxious laughter, clearly at my expense. Really? How rude. I don't care what industry a person is in, and regardless of your title, you should always pay equal respect to customers/clients/guests/etc and help them when asked. Bottom line, neither my friends, my family, or I will never step foot in this place again. Good job, Bartender. You just lost several customers because you think you're better than someone else. Thumbs down to you. read more

After getting a good whiff of BBQ a couple weeks ago my wife and i decided to give Mike's a try. Oddly, their entire lighted sign on the front of the building was off and it looked dark at the entrance but they were open. Just as other reviewers have mentioned, the front door area is dimly lit and you don't really know which way you're supposed to go. For a Friday night it was not that busy at all, but it would have been nice to have a friendly greeter near the entrance. We ordered our meal and it came pretty quickly, but when the food arrived it wasn't even hot (both of our meals). With the food coming out so quickly, and it being cold already, how long was it sitting out before they gave it to us?? Anyway, when I took the food to the counter to have them reheat it, it just so happened that another lady was bringing up HER meal also, saying that their whole table received cold food! They heated my food and it really didn't even make a difference. Anyway, their BBQ sauce was okay but nothing to really write home about. It's also hard to enjoy it if the food isn't hot! The beef ribs were a bit fatty and there wasn't a lot of chicken on the bones. My wife wanted the baked potato but they were out so she got the beans. The beans were "ehhh" as was the corn on the cob. The coke was also flat and not as bubbly as coke should be. The service wasn't bad but it seems like something was missing from the crew working that night. It was kinda like they're just people who needed a job vs. people who really know their BBQ and love the product they're selling (like the employees at Phil's). Phil's BBQ is our #1 go-to BBQ joint but we're ALWAYS willing to give other places a try. Unfortunately, Mike's did not give us a good enough first impression and we won't be coming back. We should have looked at the reviews before we went as it appears others feel the same way. Sadly, I really don't think this place will be around for very long. I laid a HUGE fart at my table just before leaving....so keep in mind if you go there any time soon. I'll let you try to guess which table it was :) read more

Being an Escondido resident, I really really wanted to love this place. I even went back two times after being disappointed each time. I went on opening day June 24, I could have been seated right away, BUT it would have been at least an hour and half wait for any food. So I just left. For my second trip there I had a clever idea to avoid this problem, I would call in for a to go order. It worked, I got some food. I had the beef and pork rib sampler and a side of onion rings. My whole order seemed like it had been waiting a little to long for me, could have been my fault, I'm not sure. The ribs were not as tender or moist as Phill's. However I love that they have a menu item where you can order both pork and beef. But I still wanted to love Mike's.... so I went back once again yesterday for lunch, hoping I could get some food. I had no problem ordering my food. The cashier while very friendly, forgot to give me, my beer so I had to remind him of my order, right after I placed it. The wait for the food was not too long. I ordered the mike's bbq sampler which had 1 beef rib, 4 pork ribs, and 1/4 chicken, large side of fries, small order onion rings, and a Heineken. Just under $24, not a cheap lunch. When my buzzer went off, I scurried over to the pick up window, excited for the meal i was about to have. There were three white, pretty flat plates pilled with food. The hand off lady was like here you go. I have no problem carrying 3 plates most of the time, as I do so for work. However mid way to my table i lost a fry and was trying to get back on balance and things weren't going well, I stopped and just shouted for help, help, help. And a young hostess came to my rescue and carried one of my plates with me to my table. Now for the important stuff, the beef ribs, some bites were really good, typically the area mid bone where most of the fat is. The non-fatty area was too dry. The pork ribs, these were good, still not as moist and fall of the bone as I wanted, but never the less enjoyable to eat. The 1/4 chicken, I think this was the best part of the plate, It was moist and full of flavor. As for the sides, Fries were so so, onion rings were bad, the batter was almost chewy. And I side note, my beer was a little below room temp. I'm not sure if the older man who came out and gave my dog a bag of bones was the owner or not, but he was really friendly and nice. It was a great gesture for him to give us a bag of bones. IN CONCLUSION: I have a feeling Mike's is still working things out, they probably need longer than I have been giving them. However in the mean time, I will be taking the 10 extra min drive to Phill's to satisfy my bbq cravings. But please Mike, I want you to be way better than Phill's! read more

As Mike's is a straight shot up the road for me--I'll wind up giving them another chance or two. There's potential with the solid food and decent beer selection. It might be awhile though. I finally went for the first time on Friday 7/29 and headed to the bar--which was quite full. Eventually I sat down and waited for service. It was easily a half hour before anyone came by and asked me if I wanted anything. I was going to leave but it became funny to me so I thought I'd see how long I could sit there before anyone came over. Finally a guy (who was pretty cool) came by and took a drink order. No one ever came back to ask if we wanted food. We wound up going to the other side of the restaurant and ordering there to get food--which I guess might be what you have to do here. The food took awhile to be prepared also. We were 90 minutes in the restaurant now before we took our first bite of food. I thought it was actually pretty good. The meat was very tender. I think Phil's sauce stomps Mike's--but I still think Mike's was pretty good and it's a lot closer to me than Phil's. The preparation here is different than Phil's though. The beans were also quite good at Mike's but the macaroni salad was only OK. The one guy that did come by in the 2 full hours we wound up being at Mike's apologized profusely and said they were 'short staffed'. Methinks that the owner of Mike's may be trying to get off cheap with low employee numbers based on some of the others here who have trouble with their service. The customers here were a strange mix also. Guess that just may be Escondido. A lot of elderly (even on a Friday night), mixed with frightening, hard-looking, shaved-headed mexican Raiders fans, mixed with white-trash tweaking meth addicts, mixed with ordinary-looking average customers. Hmm. I think I'll give them a try again in, say 6 months. Seems they have a lot to work out and hopefully they do and I can update my review with more positive comments. Was hoping they'd be an option to watch the NFL games at this season but now I'm not optimistic on that--especially if the service is abysmal and it's "Raider Nationed" out. read more

NO RATING!!!! Well, I am absolutely astounded this restaurant offers nothing gluten free! Evidently they make their own BBQ sauce and thicken it with flour rather than say, cornstarch. They have a dry rub--and so they should, but then nothing to put on it? The help had no clue about ingredients and had to keep running back and forth to the kitchen. We left but it bothered me so much that they would dish such a large part of the population that I had to call. After requesting to speak to the manager, waiting several minutes, speaking with someone then being asked if I'd like to speak to a manager, I was not happy. Another couple of minutes of dead air and I hung up, too discussed to wait and drew out my YELP pen. Maybe someone else will have better luck convincing them of the error of their ways and let them know you CAN cook without flour and it often tastes better and keeps longer. GF out! read more

I'm a food critic and restauranteur/ writing this I feel as if the owner lacks passion for this restaurant. The food is the lowest quality I purchased just about 1 of everything on the menu to see what this hole in the wall place is all about, Lacks flavor. Taste like ribs were cooked in the oven, Poor presentation. ZERO SMOKE RING OR FLAVOR Mac and cheese bland taste like frozen store bought. Food way overly sauced. BBQ sauce consistency was more like spackle. Mac and cheese came out super cold 2 times after sending it back and requesting piping hot Mac Beans taste burnt. Brisket had good texture but taste like fuel. Chicken dry, lacked seasoning. Beef ribs, were the boiled????? Yuck Ribs have the taste of if we're in oven or a steam box. The T-bone steak meat was spoiled an under seasonedI've never spit up food at the table, today marked the first time for me, ABSOLUTELY NO SOMKE RING ON ANYTHING VERY SHOCKED WITH A BBQ PLACE NOT HAVING SMOKE TASTE. No good. Spent over $ 90.00 on this experience my family and I left very disappointed. read more

It's not BBQ, it's grilled. If they put as much smoke into the meat as they do up the chimney to attract customers, the food would be much better. If you're looking for real, pit smoked BBQ, this is not it. read more

Here is where I am torn....... The Bar and place it's self is just amazing. Like it is for sure one of the best sports bars / bars around. Just really spacious and a good amount of crap on the wall and a good amount of screens. Where I am torn... The food.... It wasn't bad by any means, however, I think certain items are on the higher side of price. The BBQ was pretty good IMO. The mac and cheese....this was the worst mac and cheese I have ever had it was like eating just cooked noodles, no cheese whats so ever. If your in the area, give it a shot, because there is plenty of other items on the list. read more

I have tried to love this place. The staff are wonderful and sadly my complaints are out of their control. The food is pretty much what you would expect from an Escondido sports bar and I've been coming here since they opened their door. On my last visit, I was amazed when I looked at my bill. My Grey Goose and sodas were $9/drink. These were *not* heavy pours. This is the first time I've been charged so much for my cocktails at Mike's. I spoke with Mary- who is apparently a manager. She said $9 was the price and has always been the price. She also said she worked very hard to make sure the prices were comparable to what was in the area. Well, I did my own study. I would suggest that Mary take a visit to Vintana's, right around the corner. It's part of the Cohn Restaurant Group. Their specialty cocktails made with top shelf alcohol are $9 and the pours are heavy. Plus, the food is far better and in the same price range as Mike's BBQ. I'll only be back to Mike's if there is a sporting event that my boyfriend must watch. So sad that they have lost a very regular customer over something so small. read more

Food was good but needs help. Got the mikes sampler with beef pork and chicken . First off meat was all good wasn't over powered with lots of sauce but they should have options at the table. Only mustard and ketchup . Maybe put a few bottles at each table of there signature sauces would be a good idea. We asked waiter for some sauce on the side and they bring this tiny thimble full of sauce over for four people. Our waiter/bus boy was very friendly and helpful so 5 stars for him. I got the macaroni and bbq beans as a side. Beans were ok nothing special. Macaroni needs a lot of help . Has no flavor, little salt would improve it but I would re-work that recipe. Last thing is they took one of the thing from phils that I hate and that's the seating and ordering process . Makes it way to hard to come with a group more then 4 or if you have a person disabled like my parents who can't stand for a long period of time. Gotta be a better wat to do this. I would give this place a try but wait for them to work out the kinks first. Edit: there getting better. +1star read more

I wish I could say the food was worth it, but I'll never know. Upon entering on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm (and an empty establishment) we were greeted not once, not twice but 4 times by the handicapped janitor. He was pleasant all right, but that was where it ended. I watched for 15 minutes as 3-4 teenage employees avoided my gaze, our presence or even acknowledged our existence at the To-Go Register. Good for you for employing the troubled and obviously idiotic youth of Escondido's high-school, but if you plan on opening a neighborhood business, I suggest you actually serve your neighbors. I will not be returning, nor bringing my friends, family or co-workers there. I will also be sending in a hidden camera to show all of you just how deliberately Mike's BBQ avoids customer service etiquette. I took my $50 bucks and went to Albertson's and got ribs and change back. Amateurs. The whole lot of em! ps. Wanna know how seriously they take their business? Look at their Store webpage - someone's niece hamming it up for the camera. Perhaps the $20 t-shirt profits should go to her modeling tuition. read more

Epic fail. Cold French fries. Bland Mac and cheese. Tough beef ribs. "Mike's Nachos" were more boring than a grandma knitting a Scarf in summer. Usually the food is at least average. I have been here more often and usually the meat is at least good. At the end, my wife said, "I will deal with this by thinking I am giving money to Taylor." That is Mike's daughter. Oh well, at least we supported our local bartenders, waitresses, and bus boys. Never again and back to Phil's. read more

If your In Esco or on your way to SD this place is a must to try! The homegirl and I stopped in on our way to Sd, I had the Ribs with beans and Mac. THe BBQ sauce that coats the ribs is amazing Nice smokey flavor with a little spice. The sides tasted fresh and not like its been sitting under a heatlamp. Very pleased! Service is on point.... Marina is very helpful and never left our drinks empty. The bartender had a good pour as well. Would def recommend this spot to EVERYONE! This place makes BBQ just that much better. I have to agree with other reviewers regarding the confusion when first coming in and the lack of customer service. It is off-putting. As far as the food goes, it's amazingly blah. We have ordered takeout twice. The first time we ordered the brisket sandwich and half rack of baby backs. Brisket was soft but tasted only of beef. The ribs were tender with slight smokey taste. Their two sauces are similar with one having more of a vinegar bite. The sauces are very straight forward: catchup base and lacking depth of flavor. Our second time we ordered a full rack of baby backs with sides of mac n cheese and onion rings. Again the ribs were tender but this time only slightly warm and the "bark" completely soft. The onion rings were horrid: soaked in oil and the batter still raw inside. Mac n Cheese was good: real cheese with a balance of garlic and nutmeg. If Mike's puts a rub on any of the meats, i certainly could not tell. Tender but flavorless meat does not make great BBQ or any BBQ for that matter. To bad Mike's is is such a let down, we live near by and it would have been fantastic to have a great BBQ joint close to us. Oh well, more $ for Phil's. read more

I have eaten on the restaurant side a couple times with my husband and today we were lucky to get a seat at the bar during halftime of the Cowboys game! We arrived during halftime to a packed bar section and happily for us someone left the bar two minutes after we arrived and we took the last two seats in the place. They have lots of tv's great for viewing the games and the bartenders were on top of it. They were friendly and attentive. We ordered the boneless wings (which I had never had anywhere before and they are actually more like chicken nuggets or small chicken tenders) with a side of all the sauce choices, which we needed because they were a little dry, but they had a nice crispy outside and you get a lot of meat that way. We also split a pulled pork sandwich on a Hawaiian roll with a side of fries. The fries are average and they give you a decent amount of them. The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful and again we got the sauces on the side so I could eat it with and without the sauce. I always like Hawaiian rolls. We washed it all down with a sour beer from Almanac and a Racer5. And the best part was the Cowboys won! read more

Went in during lunch hours and had a MUCH better experience with the place. My food came out 3 minutes after I ordered, the people behind the counter were quite friendly, and my food was actually hot. I recommend anybody coming through try to do so in off-hours. Frankly, I'd still recommend Phil's BBQ for comparable prices and better food, but this place is not nearly as bad as my first two experiences on the third shot. read more

Let me say first off that I want this place to succeed. I am a big fan of family owned local business and love bbq food. I have been there three times in the last week Sunday Football, Monday Football, and Tuesday supposed grand opening for lunch. If you put out flyers that Tuesday is the grand opening and that there will be all day food specials make a big deal out of it when we get there. We went for lunch no mention of it being the grand opening or any food specials. I know the free appetizer thing was only for 4:30-8 or maybe 5:00-8 because two different flyers said two different things. The bar is great for watching the games, TVs everywhere and a good selection of beer. Chicken wings- good the tang ones are my favorite and good most of the time when they are not dry. Pulled Pork sandwich- great flavor but dry. should have been served with a side of bbq sauce. Mom's beans- not cooked enough and still hard not impressed. Nachos- chicken has bones in it, nacho cheese is the canned stuff you buy at Costco or smart n final. French Fries- awesome much like inn-n-outs fries but bigger I love the fries. Beef ribs- I have had them three times pretty good each time not fall off the bone but not as fatty as what I usually see at Phil's Cornbread muffin- fix it or take it off the menu. It was dry probably a day old and should be served with whipped honey-butter. if you can't step it up take it off until you can. it's not essential to the menu and I think you have your hands full already. Wedge Salad still needs some work. I am telling you from experience go to Outback they have one of the best wedge salads take notes get ideas. service in the bar- shotty at best. we were there for Monday night football and it was very unorganized we received items we didn't order, and didn't receive things we asked for. I think it was not a lack of effort but a lack of experienced staff. the people bringing the food didn't seem to know what went where. Since their soft opening I have visited Mike's probably 6 times. The food has varied each time but hovered on the verge of "eh. . . ok" I want to want to come here but if the food quality, and taste are inconsistent it will be hard to persuade others to come with me. read more

I've always loved the atmosphere and food but we ordered food to go 5 hours in advance and had to wait 40minutes. They had a month to figure out the online orders with covid but it didn't look like they cared. Very disappointed. read more

Food is always great. Tri tip and 1/2 chicken with 2 small sides are what I usually order. Not both of course. Service is good! Always sports in multiple jumbo screens. read more

I recently had the chance to visit San Diego, I am originally from Portland so I feel very fortunate that with all the fabulous places to eat in Southern California I happened to stumble into Mike's BBQ. The ribs were soooooo delicious and the I think the prices were very affordable for the portion sizes you get. Sauce was good but not overpowering. Additionally everyone there was very nice, the service we received was quick, helpful and with a smile. I will definitely make a point to come back to Mike's next time I am in SD. I only wish there was one at home so could try the rest of their menu!!!!! read more

Just went to Mike's BBQ for the first time for lunch. We were welcomed at the door by an employee that explained where to go to order and asked if we had any questions...a nice touch. The girl that took our order was very friendly and was helpful even though she wasn't able to do much because of 'policy'. We wanted to get a salad with some BBQ pork on it but were told we weren't able to. We were informed that you can't substitute really anything...including onion rings for french fries, etc. It seems a little odd that a BBQ place can't throw a little bit of BBQ pork on a salad...Mike's BBQ should check out Brett's BBQ...they have a great salad and allow for substitutions. Hopefully Mike's will change a few things. I'll go back to check it out again but if things stay the same, I doubt I'll go back a third time. read more

Terrible service and a long wait. I came to get a family-style pulled pork dinner to-go for 5-6 people and was told it would only take 25 minutes to get the sides and pork, but I ended up waiting almost an hour. The restaurant only had 5 other customers so they were not busy, yet it took forever and constantly reminding the staff of our order. My family and I will never come back. There were other people waiting for to-go orders who had called-in ahead of time and still had to wait at least 20 minutes. I can see why the restaurant was empty at 5 pm on a Friday, the terrible service. I liked the ambiance and the style of the restaurant, but the service was horrible and the BBQ really wasn't that great... it was especially not worth waiting an hour. The staff could've given us drinks or cornbread for free while we waited. read more

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago, it was amazing! Just walking into the door let me know it was gonna be a good night. i got the pulled pork and an order of the spicy buffalo wings. They were both a 10 out of 10, but the spicy wing sauce was the best sauce i have ever had on meat ever! i highly recommend Mikes BBQ and am willing to go if anyone wants me to accompany you. read more

My fiancée and I went there this last Saturday. This place is great, its huge inside, very clean and well organized. There were so many items to choose from on the menu it was hard deciding. I ended up getting the pulled pork sandwich with French fries and my fiancée got spicy wings with onion rings. We got our drinks and found a cozy booth to sit in. As we were waiting for our food I was looking around and it really was a huge area each table had paper towels and all the condiments you could desire at your table. It was a very nice set up. They also gave us a pager so when our food was ready our pager went off and we could go up to the counter to grab it. The food was great, the meat on the pulled pork was juicy not dry great bbq sauce. My fiancée said the wings had a great taste but they weren't very spicy though but he still enjoyed them. We both had to say they had the best onion rings. They looked and tasted soo good. Another customer even saw our onion rings and they looked so appetizing to him that he went up and got an order of them. The employees there were all very nice. We will definitely be going back. read more

I ordered the brisket, and they served it to me in a awkward manner: as opposed to cutting the meat across the grain, they merely pulled strands of muscle along the grain. Add to that the fact that the butter knives couldn't cut through butter, and it made for a frustrating dining experience. Dear Mikes BBQ staff, Always cut brisket ACROSS the grain. For your customers, It's easier to eat. read more
