I found this barber on Yelp. It is located near my apartment. I visited here. I saw a big sign which says $5. When I entered the barber. A lady asked me to wear a mask and sanitized my hands. It was good. However, she started talking to other employees. I didn't understand Spanish. But it sounded like "Shooting the breeze with other employees." She wore a mask. But COVID 19 is an airborne disease. WHO website says" The virus can spread from an infected person's mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe heavily. " The lady was not supposed to talk around me while she was cutting even if she wore a mask. Other Yelper says 'they use this powerful air blower during the haircuts to blow away the cut hair from the neck, head, and face which seems sooo terrible for Covid to spread regardless of whether you are masked or not. " I agree with her. When I paid, I said ' $5?" She said," NO, $6!" She was not happy at all when I said $5. The sign says $5. It was weird. I am from Japan. I was wondering if this happened in Japan. Absolutely NO. Japanese would say" I am so sorry. We do apologize to you. I am so sorry to ask you to pay $6. Could you pay $6, please? We will put a new sign which says $6. Once again, we are so sorry". I am not a crazy person who asks non-Japanese to act like Japanese. However, her attitude was not good at all. I will be back because it is cheap and close to my apt. Found this place online and decided to give it a try since I just fired my last barber with whom I not only had the issue of overpaying for a simple bald fade but would also rush me to get to his shop on time just to have me sit around and wait for 45 minutes because he wasn't there yet and was "running late" every time I had an appointment with him. So after dealing with that issue for far too long, I decided to make a change and came to Mike's Barber Shop. Not only was I sat in a chair within 5 minutes of arriving, I paid far less for the same haircut that was comparable to what I used to get from my other guy. Easy, no-nonsense, and inexpensive. I'm pretty pick about my barbers so I was a little wary about Mike's Barber Shop. I needed a haircut bad and my regular Barber was on vacation. The reviews were great so I decided to give Mike's a try. I am glad I went. My barber was a nice lady named Janet. I like a short 1 on the side blended to a 2 up top. Not only did Janet cut my hair right, but she even trimmed my bushy eyebrows! I tipped Janet well, thanked her, and walked out feeling great about looking sharp again. Hard to knock a $6 haircut. Normally I'd be very happy with the haircut I got and give them 4*, but my hair's been growing long since Covid started and I asked them to not take too much off and leave it long. She didn't listen, and now I'm back to short hair. Seems like they can do a basic men's cut but not much else. Don't get me wrong, the haircut looks ok, but it just is not what I asked for. Went due to the good reviews and I was disappointed that they did NOT have the chairs distanced 6 feet and they use this powerful airblower during the haircuts to blow away the cut hair from the neck, head and face which seems sooo terrible for Covid spread regardless of whether you are masked or not. IT's a tiny place and all the stylist use this which made me very uncomfortable. I couldn't get out of there soon enough. It's cheap and decent service but not during covid. Wasn't sure if reviews were too good to be true, but you really get what you pay for here. If you have a more traditional and tapered cut, this may be good for you. However, I prefer a low razor/skin fade. The lady I had didn't even blend in the guide lines all the way. I have a large block on the back where it clearly was not blended. Will not return. Cash only. They do keep the place relatively clean. However, don't count on a decent fade. read more

Went to Mike's for the first time today. No waiting at 2pm. Walked in and was greeted by Iris. Sat down in the chair and explained I wanted a trim. She asked if #5 would do, so she tried that first. She did a quick cut on the side burn and let me take a look before she proceeded. Not quite there yet as I wanted a nice and tight cut. So she recommended #3 and after taking a look that is what I wanted. Did a great job with the trim along with tying in what I have left on top. After a quick clean up around the ears she asked if I wanted a round or square cut on the back, opted for the square. Cleaned up around the neckline. Finished, paid and out by 2:19. Great Job Iris! This is a mostly men's Barber shop. It's really not for ladies. There are several Hispanic ladies cutting hair. They know what they're doing and they will give you a good haircut. It's nothing fancy but you're in and out quickly. They say the haircuts are five or six bucks but leave them a nice tip. If you go during busy times you may have to wait a while. In my opinion you get the same or better haircut than you do at sports clips or one of the other chains for less than half the price. read more

You will not find a better haircut for $6. Period. I walked in and noticed that it was a cash only establishment, but the ladies were quick to point out that the corner store a few storefronts down had an ATM. I was a little hesitant to pay the ATM fee before I realized that a haircut plus tip would still come out to less than $10; you just can't beat that! Came in about an hour before closing and there was no wait. I heard them speaking in Spanish as I walked through the door, and for a split second I thought that this was the time to break out the Spanish skills I learned during spring break in Puerto Rico before realizing how not-so-great those skills were. No worries, though; the service was friendly, quick, and fluent in English too. I went in looking to get a 0 taper and got a satisfactory cut and with good blending. My only grip is that the lady that cut my hair didn't line me up with a straight razor and did it rather quickly; a few quick passes with clippers and she was done. It definitely wasn't the cleanest line I've ever gotten, but I can't say that it was the worst. I got my hair cut by a remarkable woman named Martha. She asked me what I wanted and I told her what I wanted... just really short on the sides with blocked edges and enough on the top to lay down. Continue to visit Mike's about every 3 weeks. Sometimes a little difficult communicating exactly what you want and having them follow through. But again for $6, the best value around. Rarely does my butt hit the seat of the waiting area. I could come in once a week and cumulatively it would be more time and cost effective than one trip to a chain salon.
