If you want your fish to live, don't use Mike the fish guy. I'm not one for bad yelp reviews but this is one that is needed. The company I work for has used him two times over the course of two and half months to service a small, tropical fish aquarium. To begin with he didn't show up when scheduled, both times. Then the water, filter and entire tank was not properly set-up or cleaned. Just three weeks after the last cleaning you could not see through the water, it smelled like a fish was decaying, and all the fish were sitting at the top of the water, barely moving. At this point he was not available for an emergency service so another company was called in. It took them two hours of cleaning, almost an entire water change, proper set up of the tank and instructions for how to maintain the tank until another visit (from this new company). Immediately the fish were away from the top, active like when we first got them, and the tank looks cleaner than I've ever seen it. read more

We set a day, and then he said he would call to confirm. Never called... Texted him a week later and he never texted me back. I was pissed, so i put a one star review here on Yelp. It turns out that Mike actually lost his phone and since I was a new customer he didn't have my number programmed into his phone. So, what does Mike do? He messages me through Yelp to follow up once he saw the review and he makes things right. He did a great job cleaning up my turtle tank and servicing my filter. Mike genuinely cares about his business and his customers. You can tell this just by having a brief conversation with him. Also, despite being insanely busy, he will work with your schedule. Our company used Mike the Fish Guy to service the fish tank at our office for awhile but he has become quite unreliable. He would come by monthly to service the fish tank but eventually just stopped showing up unless we called to tell him to come in. We'd also call him if there were any issues with the tank or fish that came up. I'm not sure what's been going on with him but lately it's been rather frustrating to have to deal with him. There was an issue with the filter and when I called him about it he said he would come in that day...except he never showed up. When I called him he said he wouldn't be able come in that day, it seemed like he completely forgot that he said he'd come or try to come in. I honestly didn't think he'd be able to come in right away when I called so I was pleasantly surprised when he said he'd come in or try to come in. It was fine that he couldn't that day, but he could have at least let us know he wouldn't be able to make it. This continued for over a week where he kept saying he would come in but then with a myriad of excuses on why he would not be able to come in. They ranged from "I have too many jobs" to "I have a broken leg." Also, this was me calling him asking when he planned on coming into our office not him calling in saying that he wouldn't be able to come in like he said he would. My coworker told me that he finally showed up unannounced but no one was at the office at the time. She said he conveyed this to her in an angry phone call. A rude phone call made to a client? Mike was the one to reach out to me for another service so I replied back and never got a response. I followed up and he would finally choose when to reply back and times I had to send multiple emails over the course of a week before he replied. We've been using Mike (The Fish Guy) for awhile now. He replaced another pond service that we "were" happy with... until suddenly the pond person turned flakey and stopped showing up on a regular basis. Fortunately, we haven't had this problem with Mike. We are on his "Monday Route" and our pond has been sparkling clean on a regular basis. The koi seem happy. Recently, our gardeners got a bit overzealous with their weeding - and removed some roots which helped direct the stream that goes into the fish pond. This was a big problem because as the water recycled down the rocks, water would consistently be lost and not go back into the pond. So, our water level was continuously dropping. We put in a call to Mike and he came out on a Friday - even though his "Friday Route" was quite a distance from our "Monday Route" home. He spent quite awhile figuring out where the water was disappearing to (it was not obvious) but was able to pinpoint the problem. Apparently the gardeners in their quest to set a world record in backyard weed removal had ripped out some of the spray foam which was holding the plastic runner - under the water, and out of sight. The fact that Mike was able to find this hole was quite impressive. He said he would be back the next day - a Saturday - and he held to his word. It took a few hours. My wife kept bringing waters out to him because it was hot. Anyway, the problem was fixed... and we continue to be very happy with the service we are receiving.
