I don't have a dentist outside of LA so the next morning I called several in the area and the closest dentist to take my insurance was an hour away. I ended up grabbing an emergency appointment with Dr. Kristina Pham, even though they don't accept my insurance. This freshly chipped tooth clearly needed a crown but Dr Pham hooked me up with a temporary filing that she molded into a new tooth. Very much appreciated her solving this missing tooth issue so I could resume eating M&Ms and having fun with friends for the week until I returned home. Also, she charged a very reasonable amount for this quick fix when I was expecting the worst.

Synergy Endodontics, the specialist, said "root canal treatment is possible." The quote was about $1,000. It seemed like a standard price. However, there were a few things I wasn't happy with, so I went to Los Angeles to see my old dentist and had him look at the tooth scheduled for root canal treatment. The Los Angeles dentist told me, "There's nothing wrong with this tooth." "The crown is a little loose and moving, so there's some inflammation in the gums, but the tooth itself is completely fine." "It will heal quickly once the crown is removed." Two days after the crown was removed, I'm completely pain-free! So... what was that $1,000 quote from Synergy Endodontics? By the way, I later received a bill for $50 for the X-ray. Why did you take an X-ray?

What a surprise! First, Dr. Silberman explained every step of what he intended to do and was so kind and gentle. Not one thing hurt! Not even one twinge of pain and the bridge was not damaged!! He let me know every step of the way what was going on and when I left, I felt I had been so well taken care of that I was embarrassed to have been so fearful. I went to get a root canal done and needed 2 appointments. The first was just a consultation,…read moreduring which they did charge a $250 for a special x-ray scan, but the rest was covered by dental-cal. The day of the actual root canal appointment I was very nervous and the doctor was very patient and helped me take deep breaths to keep me calm. (Just close your eyes, it helps.) He let me put AirPods in to listen to music also. The actual procedure was painless, the doctor applied numbing gel to the area so I barely even felt the needle for the full numbing effect. The root canal took about an hour and 15 minutes in total. I was pleasantly surprised that I had no pain after the numbing wore off either. Hopefully I won't need any more root canals but if I do, I'll be coming back here!
